If you're talking about the upper panel in that small picture, behind it is the emergency fuel shutoff valve. Say if the bus was on fire or something, you could turn it off with that switch. There have been stories in the news including some of New York City's buses where morons would just open the panel, flip the switch and run away for no reason at all. According to information I've received, NICE is planning to do a bus roadeo this year. They've already started refurbishing an MSBA fishbowl, a 1972 GMC 5304A, bus #117.

By the way, as of yesterday, 1833 is still in Long Island Bus livery. Can't say really. It could be possible the paint is chipping or wearing off due to the weather, but that shouldn't be.

According to what we have, 1713 is painted. But I'm stumped as to what that is. Is NICE using cheap paint too? lol

I always got the transfer on the N88 and I always use a Metrocard, never cash.

Yuki, I don't see that as bad news because the n88 is packed as it is and people from Hempstead have been taking the 40/41 to the 88 for years under Long Island Bus. Free transfer, no problem!

The wrap from all of the buses is peeling off because its not really good wrap and it wasn't put on so well. The painted buses look so much better!

1684 is broken down as I write this at Douglaston Pkwy and Northern Blvd on the westbound side.

Yes, its sort of an extended N40/41, but I have a feeling its gonna make LIMITED stops only like Hempstead, some other stops, Freeport and then head down to the beach. Expect those buses to be packed severely. I feel bad for you because I'll be on the N87, perfect link between the N20 and Jones Beach!

I found 1853 today on the n20 and decided to take it. Lucky for me, the announcements were on. The voice is certainly not the voice or the old Clever Devices voice (which I like better). The volume on these announcements has been lowered and they show up on the LCD screen a bit longer before they're actually announced compared to the older 1800s.This new voice sounds a bit weird, but you can hear the door announcements in the video as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUpoRmreMaY I was also using a camcorder for this video instead of my usual camera. NICE is having some type of public art exhibit at the Mitchel Field depot, showing a display of posters that were made by kids around Nassau County. Its on the first floor of the main part of the depot. What is your basis for saying the announcements worked off the wheel rotations? How do you know they weren't powered by the GPS system on board the buses? That has been the subject of controversy for some time now. And whatever system was in place in Long Island Bus, NICE hasn't changed it?

What does the redirect to NICE bus on 511 have to do with NICE wasting money on unnecessary routes? You can use the keypad you know?

I don't know, I just don't think people around here would go for a subway extension. The noise, the people it brings, I don't think thats wanted. The LIRR has been enough for these people for years and there never really has been an outcry for more public transportation in addition to the Port Washington line.

I saw those videos the day the meetings happened. People just complaining and complaining more to the county waiting to start the damn meeting.

I stumbled upon a NICE driver's YouTube channel today, name: Michael Harris. Seems he worked under Long Island Bus and is still a driver for Nassau County.
