  2. BYD ebus is spotted at Zerega... http://www.byd.com/na/auto/ElectricBus.html here for an NYC style torture test. I've heard talks of it being demo'd out of Quill, but I'm not %100 sure yet. Pics will be up shortly
  3. Buses from MTAB get scrapped/parted out at eastchester. Buses from TA/OA start their scrapping process at Zerega, than end up at eastchester.
  4. They come here as TRAINING BUSes, but they don't stay.
  5. Yeah, I posted that it left Zerega last week. Didn't know if it was going back to WF or not...
  6. The straps are strong, until they get any kind of small cut or tear in them.
  7. 2 things. #1 took a ride the q44 recently (5895), and I noticed that all of the straps have been removed from the bus...whats up with that? Is this the only bus its done to? Or is this happening with other LFSA's? (For some reason, I've only been catching D60's and XD60's for a couple weeks now on the Bx22 & Bx5) #2 Took a ride around MCH this morning. It definitely doesn't look like its gonna be ready for the fall pick. Unless they do like they did with grand ave (finish construction while the other half of the facility is open for business.)
  8. Yes, I posted that and the first couple of pictures of it about 3 months ago.
  9. After about 2 months of red tape and slowdowns, 5656 is finally ready to go home (wherever they decide to send it). It should be leaving Zerega sometime tomorrow morning...
  10. Just saw 7087 being loaded onto a tractor trailor at Zerega...whats up with that?
  11. Buses do not have physical governors anymore. They are electronically limited to certain parameters. The speed definitely has a cap it. With MTA MCI's, they are set at 65mph. I would assume that with NJT, it's the same. You just won't see those kinds of speeds around here (tri-state area). With the commuter buses that travel long distances outside of the tri-state, you might see them getting close the overall cap, which is about 93mph.
  12. Technically, ALL subway shuttle work is suppose to go to TA depots first. If they can't cover it for whatever reason, then it falls to the OA depots.
  13. Were there people on the bus? Because sometimes, drivers will be fully signed up, but deadheading to a certain spot on the route. If there were people on the bus, I would think to call that number on the back the buses that says "How's our driving?".
  14. RTS's don't have fan belts. The only buses in the system with fan belts are the MCI's. When you hear an RTS, a D60, or even (lately) an LFSA screech like that on the take off, its most likely the A/C compressor belt. Its either the belt is worn, or the tensioner for the mounting bracket is not tight enough.
  15. You can't base your opinion of a bus's endurance on a bus from Staten Island. If buses spent their whole lives there, they wouldn't last 7 years. Thats why they constantly switch out the V's with Casey Stengal, Gunhill, and KB.
  16. Does anyone know where I can find DSNY fleet information similar to how ttmg is, or was set up?
  17. All of the electrical problems were fixed using modified parts sourced from scrapped RTS's. The frame rot in the other hand, is coming in slowly but surely. Most of the buses with that issue can be repaired, as long as it is caught right away. 6112 was the first bus that I've seen where they are saying that they can't do anything about it.
  18. All were 6000 series Orion V's. And I wasn't saying that they are all getting scrapped early (although they do have the potential, give the particular effected area). They all got soaked with that salt water and had several multiplex modules starting to rot (rust/corrode) from the inside, out.
  19. Two completely different situations. One bus had a strange accident that caused one of the main beams to bend (7729). The other is one of the 50 or so buses that had its electrical system severely damaged by flood waters during the storm. It was brought back to life only to find out a couple months down the line that those same salty storm waters have rusted the rear framework of the bus beyond repair.
  20. It ran over something that punched through the floor and bent one of the main beams in the process. They are evaluating weather they can save it or not
  21. not a transfer, but 7729 from Westfarms > pending SCRAP...
  22. Its probably because maintenance at the depots that the buses belong to are refusing overtime as a protest to management. Normally when the union hears that certain buses will be sent to another depot to get fixed, they'll call the other depot and tell them not to accept the overtime on the extra buses. But unfortunately there is no unity between depots and the buses get fixed anyway
  23. they squeeze a good one out of Zerega every once in a while...
