mark1447 Posted November 18, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 18, 2009 Hi, why is it that on the R142/A the "TO" for Destination is removed, while R143/R160+ still has it? *INTERIOR[inside Car]* *EXTERIOR[Outside Car]* Both! Example R142(Before its removal): TO WAKEFIELD- 241ST ST TO 149TH ST- CONCOURSE TO HARLEM- 148TH ST (Something like that) TO 125TH ST TO CROWN HTS- UTICA AVE TO FLATBUSH AVE TO NEREID AVE- 238TH ST TO PELHAM BAY PARK TO BROOKLYN BRIDGE After its removal WAKEFIELD- 241ST ST 149TH ST- CONCOURSE HARLEM- 148TH ST (May Still have TO) 125TH ST CROWN HTS- UTICA AVE FLATBUSH AVE NEREID AVE- 238TH ST PELHAM BAY PARK BROOKLYN BRIDGE *NOTE: Still has : TO NEW LOTS AVE , Since it doesnt run NTT and T/a didnt update it yet for Applies to all IRT NTT that has been updated after 2007 around... For IND/BMT the TO is still there: TO WORLD TRADE CTR TO JAMAICA-179TH ST TO BROAD ST TO BAY PARKWAY TO CONEY ISLAND TO MIDTOWN-57TH ST TO BRIGHTON BEACH TO PROSPECT PARK [Or PK i think] goes on.............. Anyways why is it that TO is removed for the IRT but for the IND/BMT .. No?
R32 3348 Posted November 18, 2009 Share #2 Posted November 18, 2009 IINM They took out the "TO" to differentiate the newer program installed on the R142/As from the older program.

I dont get it? So they just removed the TO so that the NTT as of R143 has it? The TOs were fine on the R142/As, unless its because of the amount of space the LED can take for characters/letters/numbers.

The "To" part for the IRT NTT's was remove b/c I think wanted everything to be centered....as for the IND/BMT NTT's the "To" part is still there and idk why its still there! LRG Posted November 19, 2009 Share #5 Posted November 19, 2009 I dont get it? So they just removed the TO so that the NTT as of R143 has it? The TOs were fine on the R142/As, unless its because of the amount of space the LED can take for characters/letters/numbers. It could be just that, as the R142/As have the 20 mosaic letter slots on its side signs, so a "TO" would be space-consuming, whereas the R143s and after have the LED side signs. Matt91 Posted November 19, 2009 Share #6 Posted November 19, 2009 Another thing I don't get...why do the 160s not display the to on the exterior sign if they have it on the interior?
SevenEleven Posted November 19, 2009 Share #7 Posted November 19, 2009 Well just going off the precedent set by the R142s, I believed that they never had the TO on the exterior as it would be self explanatory that the train will be going to Destination. Yes they did had the "To" on exterior.....I remember that very well To Pelham Bay Pk Lexington Av Local Bronx Express or Local To Wakefield-241 7 Av Express Those were the old exterior signs! But thats what im talking about Interior(Inside) and Exterior(outside) I still dont get why R143/160 has em and R142/A doesn't. I prefer to have the TO, since it sometimes confuse me which station is next.. Even tho i know my stations! Yes it does, always been since it came into service in 1999 around..
MattTrain Posted November 19, 2009 Share #10 Posted November 19, 2009 Honestly, what difference does it make that some NTT Destination Bars don't have the word "To" on the destination? I think you might be saying this because: 1.Some people confuse the terminal station as the "next stop" when it's really far away, (in most cases) 2. Extending the idea of 1. Passengers can't tell if the next stop is the terminal or the upcoming one. I think this makes sense in helping riders Flatbush Av (Terminal stop displayed first) The Next Stop is Bergen Street (Next Stop displayed at third reading) 11:50AM (Time at Fourth Reading)

TO NERIED AVE- 238TH ST THE NEXT STOP IS PELHAM PARKWAY 5:17PM With a TO passengers would know where the train is going instead of passengers thinking the terminal is next.. Idk why remove from 142/a but later versions keep em.. TO CONEY ISLAND THE NEXT STOP IS DEKALB AVE 0:15AM
