WannaBeMTA12 Posted June 3, 2010 Share #1 Posted June 3, 2010 Is it me or on the NG orion 7s the orange letters in the destination sign in the front will be dim, hen go super bright. I watched a Bx26 go bright n dim while going under a bridge. So is there a sensor or jus a glitch somewhere?

Kingsbridge Bus Posted June 3, 2010 Share #3 Posted June 3, 2010 I see that on all of the NG's. I was watching it on a passing by Bx18 bus & noticed that they are a bit dim for a few seconds, then goes back to normal & so on.
buswizard Posted June 3, 2010 Share #4 Posted June 3, 2010 The 2008-2010 hybrids and NABI #5251 here in Philly do that so much! One changed color reeatedly three times as it turned right. The lighting was about the same...with reflections from the sun on the skyscrapers downtown
SevenEleven Posted June 4, 2010 Share #5 Posted June 4, 2010 The newer Luminators does that because its reactive to the lighting surrounding it. That's why in dark areas, they go really bright, and in the dead sun, they're dim. (If I'm right)
WannaBeMTA12 Posted June 4, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted June 4, 2010 There is go pattern or nothing. Its jus completely random dimming n back to normal. I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed it.

Wen I was telling the story about the Bx26 it got dim under the bridge and bright wen it emerged from under the bridge. Completely opposite from common sense. thats why I said was it a glitch? rr4567 Posted June 4, 2010 Share #8 Posted June 4, 2010 those signs have photocells in them that adjust the brightness according to the surrounding area's light level.....same on the R160's exterior sign
Amtrak7 Posted June 4, 2010 Share #9 Posted June 4, 2010 For some reason, it seems that the brightness has to do with whether the interior lights are on or off.
BZGuy Posted June 4, 2010 Share #10 Posted June 4, 2010 To be honest I don't know why they dim like that. I always thought it had something to do with power conservation or something. At CTTransit the New Flyers do it all the time, but the two Novas they converted to LED signs (9637 and9649) don't. RIPTAs Orions 5s and Gilligs don't do it and I've never seen MBTAs buses do it either. Greyhound's Prevosts do the dim/not dim "glitch", but at Peter Pan our D4505s and new J4500(I am so glad BZ did'nt get those)don't dim out and we have the same AESYS sign. I think maybe it's some kind of option that not everybody is opting for.
Eric B Posted June 4, 2010 Share #11 Posted June 4, 2010 I see the R160 side signs dim and get brighter all the time. I think it's when they come into a station (where it's brighter, that they get bright (so they're in conservatioon mode when moving and not needed).
