EE Broadway Local Posted November 30, 2010 Share #8 Posted November 30, 2010 I checked with USGS and a earthquake, magnitude 3.9, did occur at 10:45:59 this morning. The USGS has its' epicenter as 79 miles SSE from Quouge and Southampton and West Hampton Dunes, New York and 122 miles SSE of New York City. Roadcruiser1 Posted December 1, 2010 Share #9 Posted December 1, 2010 So what you can barely feel or notice a 3.9 on the richter scale except for some people. The earthquakes that most people feel are 5.0+. If that happens in New York then get back to me, but wait you might not because I might die in such a quake. Of course New York has several fault lines, and the New York City Subway and the highway tunnels and bridges cross some fault at some point. Also the most dangerous out of all of them is the Ramapo Fault. In total they could release an earthquake in New York that could measure up to a maximum of 7.2 on the Richter Scale, but it happens only every 4,000 years, but again you don't know when the last 7.2 in New York happened because no one left any records. So it might happen tomorrow morning you never know. Anyway the recent movements and small earthquakes we have been getting these last 5-6 years could be the warning of a big New York earthquake to come so I am going to prepare just in case.
