Trainspotter Posted May 8, 2008 Share #1 Posted May 8, 2008 3 into 1 for MTA as it unites bus lines The MTA is creating a centralized bus operation under one top executive that will join three divisions - encompassing about 20,000 workers. NYC Transit Bus, Long Island Bus and MTA Bus will be run by Joseph Smith, the senior vice president of buses at NYC Transit, said MTA CEO Elliot Sander. Officials said the streamlining will lead to savings for the fiscally challenged Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which is forecasting large annual deficits for the foreseeable future. The move also should benefit riders with the creation of a single command center and better coordination of bus service during emergencies, Sander said. MTA Bus encompasses the seven formerly private bus outfits that the authority took over in 2005 and 2006. "It should mean more efficiency to combine the management of the three separate MTA bus operations - but riders will be watching to make sure that the MTA's plans to 'eliminate redundancies' doesn't mean cutting service," said Gene Russianoff of the Straphangers Campaign. TransitGuy Posted May 8, 2008 Share #3 Posted May 8, 2008 Hmm interesting i hope they kept the LIB paint scheme. I think the paint scheme will remain for a while because this seems to be mainly a merger of the internals. But eventually they should be making a transition to new colors.
