Lance Posted February 2, 2015 Share #2727 Posted February 2, 2015 (edited) That why. Ice on 3rd rail. I wonder why they can try to run the from Flushing to 74th street and terminate there? Like they do those shutdowns. Usually on the shutdowns the empties passengers on 74th street then goes on express track on Woodside to change crew. It's not just at Queensboro Plaza. I know that ice is building up even on the standard elevated sections. This morning, my 5 train literally crawled all the way through the Bronx. The HVAC and the lights kept flickering so much, I felt like I was on a redbird. Edited February 2, 2015 by Lance

paulrivera Posted February 2, 2015 Share #2733 Posted February 2, 2015 (edited) Just found out the answer on why the line is having problems: An umbrella ended up on the roadbed this morning, and while they were retrieving it they had to stop service. While the service was stopped, the third rail froze over and when service resumed after they retrieved the umbrella, the trains started to crap out. So it's not entirely the 's fault, but the fact that an umbrella that was (thrown/dropped) on the tracks caused all this is quite unbelievable. alekr Posted February 2, 2015 Share #2734 Posted February 2, 2015 Due to ice on the third rail at Queensboro Plaza, there is currently Shuttle train service running between Flushing-Main St and 74 St-Broadway in both directions. Shuttle buses are currently running between Vernon Blvd-Jackson Av and 74 St-Broadway in both directions. Now the shuttle buses are now not running toward Main Street but up to 74th street. We might see normal by tonight. Depends how much more work have to be done to make sure it returns normally.

RollOver Posted February 2, 2015 Share #2739 Posted February 2, 2015 Service Change Posted: 02/02/2015 6:11PM Due to NYCT Cold Weather Plan, train service is suspended between Broad St and Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer. Allow additional travel time. Wow, they actually have been acting like the is a real line or what? Who cares? It's just another damn doing limited stops during rush hour and the skip-stop service only runs for an hour anyway, and nothing more. Pity.

RollOver Posted February 3, 2015 Share #2741 Posted February 3, 2015 Well, at least some people on the line are able to understand that the only difference between the and is the stations they skip during rush hours and nothing more. What the just wrote was rather unnecessary at all. Eh, I guess it's nothing really.

Given today was the day after the Super Bowl, you have to wonder if someone who may have had a litte too much to drink on Super Sunday tried to go into work a bit hung over (SB Monday is the biggest day of the year for absenteeism normally) and got a bit careless. Not that it was likely the actual case, but it wouldn't surprise me.

alekr Posted February 3, 2015 Share #2745 Posted February 3, 2015 I was watching eyewitness news and I saw a train rolling through and they were filming from queensboro plaza... It was a test train and not in service. The MTA said overnight there will be test trains running along to break up the ice. Still no service.
