B3 Via Av U 178 #1 Posted June 17, 2012 (edited) Okay guys, this is the New York metro area bridges and tunnels trivia thread! Allow us to begin: -If the Lower Manhattan Expressway had been built, what designation would the Manhattan Bridge carry? -How many levels did the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge have in 1965? -Had the Bushwick Expressway be built, what designation would the Williamsburg Bridge carry? -How many tubes does the Lincoln Tunnel have? -How many lanes does the George Washington Bridge carry? It had one level in 1965 Williamsburg bridge had I-78 The Lincoln tunnel has 3 tubes The GWB has 12 lanes, three in each direction on each level. The lower level wasn't open yet though. 3) I-78. The Buswick Expressway was supposed to connect to the Low-mex via the Manhattan and Williamsburg Bridges 4) 3 tubes 5) 14 Lanes. 8 upper level, 6 Lower level

B3 Via Av U 178 #8 Posted June 19, 2012 116 years old Wrong! It's 129 years old.
Tokkemon 448 #9 Posted June 19, 2012 The Brooklyn-Battery is the longest, not the Holland. The Holland is only the oldest.
KeystoneRegional 246 #10 Posted June 20, 2012 Well, still we have to credit the Holland Tunnel because Ole Singstad and Clifford Milburn Holland are the guys who made the Tunnel Ventilation System possible thus the Brooklyn Battery and many tunnels to come possible. Thanks to the guys and Holland Tunnel where the experiment took place, we now can have less smoggy tunnels!
peacemak3r 1,351 #11 Posted June 21, 2012 Then the question is flawed. Longest and oldest couldn't be in the same question for that type of structure.

Astoria Line 1,064 #16 Posted June 23, 2012 Next! What direction is the Manhattan Bridge tilted towards? South?
B3 Via Av U 178 #17 Posted June 23, 2012 South? Correct! That's due to having more usage on the south (6 Ave.) side than the north (Broadway) side.
KeystoneRegional 246 #18 Posted June 26, 2012 Don't forget about that foot bridge to Randal's island Foot and Bike are minor structures, thus I omitted it.
