LED Street Lights in NYC

Recommended Posts

NYC announced a few months ago that they will replace the city's street lighting with LED lights to "be green" and save on electricity costs.

They've already replaced lights on some of the FDR drive, Eastern and Belt Parkways.

I noticed yesterday that they replaced the lights on the Cross Island Parkway between the Southern State Parkway and Hempstead Ave.

I forgot what block along Broadway it was, I think it was Warren Street, but there's one block that has entirely new LED street lights. The design and the lights looked pretty cool. It was extremely bright too.

I knew they were starting, but didn't know it was this far along in places.

(I think the ones they are going with don't look like that first batch on Warren St; it will be new small heads similar to the old ones; not whole new masts).

The LED lights on the Cross Island are up to Hillside Ave

The lights spread down the "westbound" lanes of Lauralton Parkway till about Merrick Blvd, and north on the Cross Island Parkway to at least the LIE, In the LIE area there are still the newer lights from the interchange project, so I'm not sure if replacement resumed north of the LIE. Some entrance and exit ramps on the Belt Parkway were replaced also.
