Fastest speed between any 2 stations

Recommended Posts

Ive looked on the site to see if there was any previous info on this topic. Maybe the Train Operators can provide some actual insight on this question.

What is the fastest speed between 2 stations in the system ?

My Top 3 are

D train travelling between 36th Street and Atlantic Avenue (Especially between Prospect & 9th Street)

E / F trains between Roosevelt Avenue and Queens Plaza

....and by far the number 1 is

N/Q/R trains between Queensboro Plaza and Lexington Ave

Not too sure is those are the top 3 (actual speed wise) but if anyone within MTA could provide any other examples would be great

Also, on the Rockaway Flats.

I recorded speeds on several trains of different car classes between JFK and Broad channel. The Fastest run I clocked was 54MPH. SB train of R179's. The Avg speed was 47-50MPH for all car classes.

I think you meant northbound (D) from 9th to Union that’s the best!

I want to say (2)(3) express: 42nd to 72nd stretch and 14th to Chambers..

Also:

(A)(D)  CPW express 59th to 125

(D)  East Tremont to 145- AM only

I don’t know if this counts but (F) from York to Essex.

(4)(5) and (6) between 116th Street and 42nd Street. Trains both local and express operate at pretty fast speeds on that section.

Also:

<7>- Mets-Willets Point and Queensboro Plaza (both AM and PM rush)

(E) and (F)- Roosevelt Avenue and Forest Hills-71st Avenue (you will see alot of fast express train flybys at the local stops between those stations.

(B) and (D)- 34th Street and West 4th Street

(G)- 21st Street and Greenpoint Avenue

(1)- 145th Street and Dyckman Street

I'd second that. Just off the fact it's second steepest tunnel grade right behind the Steinway Tubes with no Steinway clearance issues. I'd say this is fast stretch of track in the system.
