The suburban St. Louis town where a cop shot an unarmed black teen dead descended into turmoil Wednesday night as protesters hurled bottles and Molotov cocktails and police in riot gear fired back with tear gas.

“We have to stand and fight here right now!” one woman screamed as helmeted cops moved in to disperse a demonstration over the death of 18-year-old Michael Brown.

Several hundred demonstrators packed the main street in Ferguson, Mo., holding up their hands in surrender pose and chanting “Stand Up! Don’t Shoot!”

A team of officers wearing riot gear and toting shields stood about 100 feet from the protesters.

Just after 9 p.m., cops issued several warnings over a loudspeaker, saying, “You are being ordered to leave now! If you don’t leave peacefully, there will be arrests.”

Someone in the defiant crowd threw a bottle at the police line. Cops responded by firing tear gas canisters and flash grenades that sparked and emitted ear-splitting booms.

“We’re not dogs, so what the hell you’ve got those whipping sticks for?” one man shouted at police. “Because you want to whip us like dogs.”

What I don't understand is what does looting stores have to do with this guy's death?  The store owners that are being robbed didn't shoot this teenager, the cops did.  This seems to be the norm though when people feel that they've been disrespected or unfairly killed or harmed.

I would like to add this alternative article from Mashable: http://mashable.com/2014/08/12/faa-flights-media-ferguson-missouri/

According to various media sources, a no fly zone was enacted, granted by the FAA. The FBI stepped in to quell the civil unrest. The town of Ferguson also attempted to create a media blackout. The media was barred from the area by law enforcement. Several reporters were harassed by police. One reporter reportably was assaulted. Another was escorted out of the restricted zone by force.

*Hacker group Anonymous stated that they will be in support of the demonstrators and media personnel harassed or assaulted by police. http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2014/08/14/ferguson-riots-prompt-hacker-collective-anonymous-to-wage-day-of-rage/

Way to show the white man who's boss - tearing up "your own" community!
That's all the f**k this is....

The people that get me, are the ones who flew out to Ferguson just for the experience - on some "I was there & I survived" shit....

(I've seen 2 youtubers make videos of the sort so far... quite sure there are more...)

Honestly (and I have long believed this) - Rioting illustrates perfectly just how miserable a lot of people are with themselves in this world....

If the officer is given DEATH threats, it only makes sense to not reveal his name. Also didn't their mommies teach em' not to fight fire with fire.

The idiotic looting still doesn't take away the fact that an unarmed kid was shoot, which whether you like it or not is the bigger point.

I agree, the looting is the worst possible scenario. I was adding in another thing that has happened while were still discussing the subject.

Pretty much. The police literally tried to create a media blackout on top of that to cover up the errors made with the Ferguson police officers. Michael Brown was said to be a suspect in a robbery moments before the incident (a video was released on this) however it does not match up with eyewitness accounts. He didnt even have a criminal record.

Of course I was unnerved with the looting that took place, but I was even the more alarmed on why this happened to begin with. Even the KKK stepped in advocating for the officer in public rallies as instigators. But thats none of my business.

Is it me, or did the protests seemed a little disorganized?

I wanted to expand on this a little. I understand what the protestors wanted, but when I watched the news or read articles on Fergison it seemed like the media focused less on the protestors and more on either the riots. It feels like there was a lack of information about the shooting itself.
