  1. I was surprised they told you to come in today at all. Unfortunately, HR aren't going to give up their weekend, but the people doing the drug test will always be there for incident testing and randoms.
  2. You will get an additional 8 hours of holiday pay. You will be paid an additional $2/hour if you are working Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year. Edit: I'm not sure how schoolcar may be working now, but they tend to move your days off to include the holiday so they don't have to give holiday pay. However, when you YX or yard/road post, you will get it.
  3. Yes, you can be sent to Bedford Park one day on the D and the next you can be sent to Far Rockaway on the A. You will stay in your respective division unless you request a transfer before a pick starts. Forced overtime usually only occurs if your train is late to return on your last interval. If the job you are given has "work as assigned" at the end, then the dispatcher can ask you to do something at the last minute, but generally that's frowned upon as the job is expected to end at its clearing time and can be considered a violation of pick rights if done repeatedly. Unfortunately, this is why dispatchers usually get away with doing it to XX crews rather than someone who has it as a picked job who can document it on a regular basis. Other than that, overtime nowadays is usually voluntary and either the dispatcher will ask you to do an extra trip/platform or you can ask if there's anything available whether through the dispatcher or the crew office. Edit: I should add that as a new conductor, chances are you will not have the weekend off for a long time unless you bid and win a job on the vacancy bid that has it.
  4. IRT, BMT, and IND are simply the companies and systems the subway originated from. It is an acknowledgment of their historical origins. You are assigned to a division during your first week of schoolcar. It is best to choose the one that suits your commuting needs. A division mainly reports to the Bronx terminals while B division is pretty much everywhere else. However, there is always the possibility that Transit chooses the division for you depending on where you're needed. As an XX conductor, you can be assigned on a weekly basis to any tour (MID, AM, PM) and RDOs, and to a job that is available on any line and location in your respective division (except OPTO where it only needs a train operator). It is not a 9-5 job and you will find the times you report to vary. Example: If you're in the AM tour, you may find yourself reporting to a job that can start at 4AM on your first day of the week and your fifth day report to a job that starts at 1130AM. You are given 3 days advanced notice of what your job is either by the assignment sheets available on the employee website or by phone. As you move up in seniority, you will be able to choose jobs that you can work for the entirety of the pick which happens twice per year.
  5. Sleep apnea, high blood pressure, and diabetes are pretty much the top three.
  6. Welp. Aside from switching tours or a later job, you should email/call them up to have it rescheduled. Though, if I were you I would finish probation before you make the jump. I had a classmate who was a bus operator who failed schoolcar and couldn't go back to buses because he was probationary.
  7. That's good news. Y'all better call yourself the Valentine's day class.
  8. When they finally call you for your medical, you will want to get those tickets squared away or they will not swear you in.
  9. When they have another class. I was first called in for the drug test back in the Fall of 2018 and finally joined the August 2019 class. Some people got in right after their drug test. Some had to take multiple drug tests. That said, if you have been reading this thread and notice people behind you get in the latest class, I would start calling/emailing Transit to ask what is going on.
  10. If you passed the medical, you would've been sworn in that day barring classes getting filled up. It's top pay.
  11. Yes, they can change you to ANY tour and RDO every week, but generally they leave you alone. At this point it depends on how many people are out with Covid.
  12. Might have a decent shot at requesting the day(s) off too. My classmate who was a conductor said to bring everything.
  13. I don't mean to burst your bubble, but right now the prevailing problem is actually the lack of train operators.
  14. Did you mean to post this in buses? Staten Island Railway is a separate agency. They hire their own conductors.
  15. The doctor at the MAC should have told you what you need. You have to use the CPAP machine for 30 days or however long they told you to use it and bring in the results.
  16. I actually bumped into a train operator several months ago who was using a GoPro. Said he wanted to make sure any bullshit that happened to him on the road was caught on film. Depends more on your list number. You may be at the bottom of the pile.
  17. There you go. So they shorten yard posting and YX. This was how I posted.
  18. Your TSS should be able to explain all the questions you may have. Don't be afraid to ask them. You will receive papers detailing the tour and reporting location and time. You will not be bound to the stable schedule you've had with your class. You will have at least one week in each tour. You will be going to every major yard and terminal. You are to be paired up with a train operator who will explain how the yard or terminal operations works and keep an eye on you as you operate. You may have to wait for one to take you up especially if your classmates are there too and need to be paired up as well. It can be a good time to rack up overtime if you do have to wait or get a late move. I would advise saving the hours so you can request a day off in the future especially when you won't have much in vacation days. This is more for when you are road posting, but Train Operators do not have to take students and chances are you will have to wait awhile for the next T/O to come in and decide to take you on. Otherwise, you may have to make up the day.
  19. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Send it to OHSVaccineProof@mtahq.org and show you sent it to that address.
  20. Looking at my journal, I was put in the PM for YX and then they switched me to midnights for the last two days right before the signal exam. You're going to be put in a tour that's available. Especially if there's multiple classes YXing at the same time. My class didn't have the weekend since the previous class were still YXing.
