  1. I'm assuming they're waiting to hire for all 500 vacancies in the current list before they certify a new one. When that happens? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  2. Keep in mind, this thread is for conductors. Their other jobs that they can possibly have are platform, hand switching, and construction flagging.
  3. A division are the number lines. Most of the terminals/yards you report to are in the Bronx. B division are the letter lines and you pretty much report everywhere. Look at the subway map to see which division is easier to commute. Schoolcar may give you a choice, but sometimes they throw everybody in the division they need people in.
  4. If you're list number is in the 7XXX range, you probably won't get to medical until next year.
  5. Someone above just said they were sworn in with a 46XX list number. But chances are, if you're just now being called for the OPA, you have a long while to go.
  6. Not entirely true. The contract only covers lateness on New York City Transit. It is definitely very petty to make this distinction as frankly it's all under the MTA umbrella and they should be encouraging us to not use our cars anyway. Plus, we literally are given a "commuter" pass for it.
  7. Working on the railroad has always been one of the hardest jobs to live and raise a family. In the past several years, train crews on freight railroads have been getting screwed harder on scheduling and disciplinary actions, but it looks like their union is finally doing something about it at least. In the end, even if the job is not for you. At least you can say you operated a train.
  8. From 1200-2159, you can report at any time in that range if you are put in the PM tour. On your first day of the week, you may report at 1207 at Far Rockaway on the A. On your second day, they may have you report at 1442 at Bedford Park on the D. On your third day, they can have you report at 1735 at Jamaica Center on the E. On your fourth day, they can have you report at 1900 at Metropolitan for a yard job. And on your fifth day, they may have you report at 2000 at Coney Island Yard for a test train.
  9. Remember, the NYC Subway is a 24/7 operation spanning the four boroughs. With your schoolcar instructors, you will be going to all the yards, terminals, and other key locations (such as express stops) in the subway system of your chosen division. Usually it's 7AM-3PM, but there was apparently a class that had to do 3PM-11PM due to all the classes running around. A division reports mainly at the terminals/yards in the Bronx, but you can be sent to the other boroughs, and consists of the number lines. B division reports pretty much everywhere else consisting of the letter lines. So look at a subway map and choose which one is easier to report from your home, because chances are, you're going to want to save as much time commuting as you can. In the latter half of your training, you will post in the yards/terminals with a train operator guiding you. After that, you will operate by yourself in the yards/terminals. Last, you will be road posting with a train operator operating in passenger service on all the lines. You will be subjected to work in the AM (0400-1159), PM (1200-2159), and MID (2200-0359) tour on a weekly basis. You will report at various times and locations especially when you're road posting. You may report at 0600 at 207 Yard and then the next day report at 0730 at Coney Island Yard. After you graduate, the crew assignment section may or may not adhere to your preference sheet and can put you in any tour and RDO that they need you in.
  10. Short answer, no. For the first week or so, you'll be at PS 248. After you pick your division (if they let you choose) and split up into smaller classes, you will receive a schedule that will detail what you will be doing with your schoolcar instructors. Later on in training you'll be working all three tours.
  11. As long as you can see with your current pair of glasses, you'll be fine in medical. During school car you'll be given safety glasses that fit over your prescription. You'll be given a prescription safety glasses form that your optometrist can fill out with a prescription not more than a year old. If you don't know the size of the glasses you wear, you can visit the locations on the form to try them out.
  12. Just wait til you get to class. Your BSC ID will be active by then.
  13. You have a loong way to go from where things are at now and chances are you'll be doing a second or third drug test, so I wouldn't rush it.
  14. To be safe, I would have them reschedule in a couple months.
  15. Not sure what you mean by this. You said you're going in for pre-employment for T/O which depending on your list number, will still be a long while off. Your best bet is if necessary, to reinstate your name to the C/R title and get hired for whichever comes first.
  16. Looks like they're going to exhaust the current certified list before they put a new one out.
  17. Today's the last day to submit for the second vacancy bid. Put anything in there.
  18. When they told you had to get the transcript notarized, didn't they tell you how to come back? I would've ran to the bank and came right back, tbh. I would send an email to Olha.Nyahay@nyct.com to try and get an update. DCAS recently recertified a new list so you should check if you're on it (https://data.cityofnewyork.us/City-Government/Civil-Service-List-Certification/a9md-ynri/data) If not, you should send an email to DCAS (LMACustomerService@dcas.nyc.gov) with your name, title, list number, and last four digits of your SSN to be reinstated. Good luck.
  19. Do you mind giving your list #? You can X out the last two digits. Just trying to figure out how close my buddy is.
  20. Just read the latest safety bulletin where back in March a YX T/O overran a portable trip with the flagger signaling for him to stop. I hope it wasn't anyone here. I'd be very shock if schoolcar didn't fire him. Anyway, I'm on the second day of posting in work trains. It's definitely a lot to get used to and remember what to do. The class time was pretty short presumably because they figure if you can operate a passenger train, you can operate a diesel, but they're two different beasts.
  21. Huh? MTA does not contribute to the plans. That said, it wouldn't hurt to put a few bucks in.
