  1. yes. the B41, B44 local & B49 all interline... and have done so for YEARS. there are early trips on the B41 that run to empire, deadhead to empire & bedford and become 49's. also there are 49's that get relieved at flatbush & rogers, then do reliefs at the junction on the 44 local, and vice versa. there are the school trips on the 44 local, as i stated earlier, that appear on the B46 local, B47, B12, B49, B41, etc. the school open 44 local is basically flatbush's wildcat. technically, in my opinion, the B2, B31, B41, B44, B46 local & B49 should be considered true interlines with different header numbers, based solely on the fact that in some way shape or fashion, all the runs mesh together. before I forget, there are at least 2 trips on the B2 & 31 that technically interline with the 41. they come to kings plaza as b2's, leave as 41's with empire destination codes (i believe) but the operator doesn't complete the trip. the operator is relieved at avenue p and goes home.
  2. thank you for that. as we all know, those runs will be "adjusted"/cut/"modified" due to artic conversion. also to be noted: even if/when the B49 goes to UP, it's my belief that Flatbush will still retain the school trippers on the 49, as they did when the 47 went to Grand Avenue. just a reminder: pretty much any school trip done by a Flatbush Depot run is being performed by a B44 local (school open) paddle... in exception of the 44 & 46 sbs's. if I'm not mistaken, there are 2 schools in/around Beach channel drive (one jhs which the name escapes me) that have Q21 school trippers (i believe there are 2) begin in the rockaways (the Q22 has school trips from there as well) i believe the q21 school trips skip the howard beach loop, run straight on cross bay & turn on 157 to serve lindenwood, if I remember correctly. feel free to correct me if you have knowledge of this.
  3. B46SBS weekdays (school open & closed paddles) = 61 runs prior to artic conversion. after (as of today, 01/19/2020) = 48 runs. 46SBS Saturday = 42 runs prior. as of today = 31 runs 46 SBS Sunday = 26 runs prior. as of today = 23 runs. the point I'm making by posting this is that as unfortunately, headway alterations were inevitable. please note: the 46 local's 52 runs remain intact from last pick. be forewarned.
  4. as of today, 01/19/2020, the B2 & B31 (school open & school closed paddles) have 9 runs weekdays. (each) B49 school open = 43 runs. school closed = 35 runs B2 saturday/sunday = 4 runs. B31 saturdays = 8 runs. B31 sundays = 7 runs. B49 Saturday = 28 runs. B49 sunday = 23 runs. the point I'm making by highlighting these lines is that if/when the B1 is converted to artics, more than likely, it won't be necessary for the B2 & B31 to go to Ulmer Park with the B49. offhand, i don't know exactly how many runs are currently on the B1, but I'm almost certain that there aren't enough runs on the B1 for UP to take on 61 total runs from FB (43 runs on the B49 plus 18 total runs between the B2 & 31 = 61 total) regardless, the B1 will experience runs cut & headway adjustment(s) due to artic conversion, so it'd be reasonable to speculate that the B1 will go entirely to Flatbush, without splitting it with JG. i personally don't like the idea of UP running the 49 at all, letalone pull ins/pull outs from KCC or Avenue U/Ocean Avenue, but what can you do? as far as JG is concerned, i truly do not see that as a viable option. JG isn't parting ways with the B4, B8 or B68 anytime soon to accommodate any version of an articulated B1... i could very well be incorrect, however, the only thing left to do is wait & see.
  5. agreed. the 41 absolutely has it's problems... being based out of Far Rockaway Depot doesn't help matters at all (at least when based out of JFK Depot, there was significant scheduling flexibility) but over the years I've noticed that 41's are preferred over the Q112 & to a certain extent, the Q8 during rush hours (especially am)
  6. the confusion lies with people being LAZY. lazy minded individuals don't bother looking at destination signs or even the actual color scheme of the bus. people just see a large vehicle, translate it in their mind as "BUS! must be the one i need, so I'm getting on, and it better be going where I need to go..." not all, but some.
  7. which has been the rumor for years regarding the Bronx express routes... close Yonkers & house everything at Eastchester
  8. safety precaution. when you know that you are in another b/o's blind spot, honking the horn is a way of alerting him/her of your presence. there is a brief 2-5 seconds that a vehicle or bicyclist won't be seen on the left side of the bus, and if you aren't careful, you can absolutely make or cause contact. so, by overtaking another bus and honking the horn, you avoid a bus on bus incident, which is one of the deadly sins in DOB.
  9. I'm not absolutely ready to begin assuming what exactly DOB has in store for express runs in Queens Division, but along this line of thinking, i will say is this: this boro by boro redesign is the "perfect opportunity" (tongue in cheek) for a few things to occur re: depots 1) activation of Far Rockaway as it's own independent yard, no longer remaining codependent to JFK 2) closing Casey Stengel (if that's even still a thing... i don't agree with it personally) 3) closing Yonkers (not a move i agree with at all) all in all I'm going to refrain from turning this into another speculation based rant, but it's technically something to ponder seeing as this proposed network is being branded as being rebuilt from scratch
  10. i can absolutely see all of this happening, as some veiled attempt by DOB to adequately accommodate all unions involved. ultimately, there will be cuts, but with the potential new contract/contract negotiations (with Bus Company demanding parity to NYCTA/MaBSTOA across the board) and the new farebox/destination sign code system on the way, your point is absolutely a valid one to point out.
  11. im assuming the reason why they're using this as opposed to the Staten or Bx redesigns is because those were completely different scenarios. this is a very invasive, clusterf**k of a situation, and being that there are a vast amount of different components to this redesign, Temporary was somewhat necessary... they better know that people will not be receptive to any of this, so by saying Temporary, they leave themselves a public relations out, so to speak. it's nit-picking, but nonetheless, reading maps doesn't come easy to most, so if they tried to simplify this process while keeping people from revolting in the streets, then who am i to judge?
  12. the 10/64 combo will possibly cause issues between management (DOB) & TWU Local 100 (Baisley/Q64) or ATU 1179 (JFK/Q10) ultimately the routes & runs belong to management/DOB. wherever they decide to send those runs will be the bigger issue as to who will ultimately loose out on runs/RDO's. same thing applies to NYCTA/Bus Company combos.
  13. they didn't. the "T" stands for temporary... as in, the route numbers provided in this plan are temporary. as it states in the document, the finalized plan will utilize the original "Q" prefix for all redesigned lines.
  14. this point is exactly what I will be paying close attention to. there will absolutely be route/runs swapped. this whole redesign is the solution for management to cut & trim runs, and completely wipe the board for which lines "belong" to certain depots. combining lines like the B62 & the q100... will the "QT1" run out of La Guardia Depot? that's what I'm really waiting for. it'd be a sight to see La Guardia laying over on Tillary Street 🙄 i knew this would be an absolute mess. i must refrain from commenting any further. i haven't even made it all the way thru this quagmire. the "QT88a/b"?! oh lord...
  15. originally 100 street had: the M101/2/3 (runs 001 and so on, running into the 100's) the M79 (before SBS conversion, runs 201 thru 207, then later on, runs 201 thru 204) the M86 (runs 301 and so on) when the m79 went SBS, 100 street acquired 4 runs on the M14 A/D (runs 201-204) the M96/106 while at 100 street was assigned header number 4 (runs 401 and so on)
  16. also, to add to this convo, the reason why it was decided for the local 15 to be assigned to 100 street and not hale is because DOB had to accommodate the significant loss of RDO's/run pay 100 street suffered when they lost the 86 (first to SBS conversion, then to Quill) the 86 once upon a time, was about the only way a B/O could see S/S (Saturday/Sunday) RDO's with decent run pay in 100 street. being on the M101/2/3 meant you did alot of hard work for a decent (not great) amount of run pay.. but you definitely had (what some would call) "shitty" RDO's (tues/wed, etc... any combination of days off that wasn't Saturday/Sunday or Friday/Saturday) the 15 local throughout the day (ESPECIALLY the later pm runs (runs 045 and up) pay out (upwards of 9 hours) have a large amount of Saturday/Sunday RDO's, and no interlining, like the 86 used to be (the 86 eventually did interline paddles with the "avenue" (lex & 3rd) but it wasn't heavily utilized. if you did a 86 interlined paddle, it involved you doing at least 2 trips to fort George on the 101) alot of senior operators pick the local 15 outta 100 street just as they probably would've picked the 86, avoiding the fight for "good" runs on the m101/2/3 altogether. btw, you'll find quite a few former two-six operators on the 15 local (and the 31) as they refuse to pick anything else at 100 street.
  17. the reason was because (in DOB's mindset) there was no feasible way to house all the combined runs on the 15 in one of the two depots mentioned (100 Street & Hale) there are over 50 local runs on the 15, while the select portion of the 15 is over 60 runs... no way could 100 street do upwards of 130 runs on the 101/2/3 AND approx.110 runs between the select & local 15, aside from the number of artics it would take to cover those runs with spares. 100 street can't fit that many buses in house, believe it or not, and if you've ever actually been in that depot, you'd understand this fact. they'd have to park buses on the street for that, and seeing as the community surrounding 100 street despises that building, there's no way they'll tolerate losing parking spots as well. the Bus Company express midday layovers have no bearing on why 100 street houses the runs they currently do or don't. please remember, they stopped that practice for a certain amount of time, and the amount of runs in 100 street didn't increase, nor did employee parking become any easier. which brings me to my next point... there's no way a depot like 100 street could potentially accommodate the amount of bus operators it would take to make that work. 100 street is already rather congested/crowded as is, with the employee parking situation i previously mentioned. furthermore, DOB didn't want to house the number of artics it would take to accommodate 110 plus runs at Hale, including spares and the M1/7. basically, DOB is doing their best to keep Hale from turning into 100 street depot North, for reasons i previously stated. DOB has no desire to push the amount of buses, runs or employees in & out of that building that conventional wisdom would lend one to believe could feasibly run out of that yard. there was a rumor at one point about all m15 runs being assigned to Quill, but it quickly died on the vine. and before anyone asks "why not Quill" there would be too many dead miles (non revenue miles) from south ferry or from any created short sign/pull in sign from the east side to Quill. they didn't want to break apart paddles and basically divide m15's at 34 street or 42 street (which is why there are no built in m15 (local) short sign paddles to 96 street) the preferred method has always been for uptown yards to handle the 15... and keep the line paddles intact.
  18. EXACTLY! 😂 I saw that gobshite earlier. after that, there's no validity to anything that individual says whatsoever. it's pleasing to me how quickly people reveal their true nature & intent. when you're a phony & a fraud, eventually, nature will take it's course
  19. good lord... don't commit any more energy to this nonsense. this individual ain't built like that. this thread should've been locked... would definitely save you the "trouble" 😂🤣
  20. this is exactly why i didn't offer any opinion on this thread... because it's like putting the carriage ahead of the horse. absolutely useless to assume what transit will do with areas, lines or runs until they actually do it. we can logically assume they'll f**k it up, based on recent history, but specifics? nah killa, lock this thread.
  21. i can see the q41 being cut to cross bay & Pitkin (the Q11 short sign) just because it'd be significantly easier (and safer) to layover & turn buses there... or they'll have em terminate at liberty Avenue in the back of PC Richards.. the q21 i can easily see being a coverage route for Howard Beach/lindenwood to the train... it's absolutely useless as a Woodhaven local, which is EXACTLY what they wanted to happen going back to the bus company takeover. the only thing left after this would be to chop the 21 completely (if they decide to allow the 41 to still loop thru lindenwood) the 9-11 runs on the 21 could easily be repurposed to the q11 (as pitkin avenue short signs) also, the 34 running below 39 avenue & main is really a air carrying, nonsensical mess throughout most of the day. however, school kids do utilize the 34 northbound from Jamaica-LIRR. the 23 didn't mirror any subway service. it ran from flatbush Avenue & cortelyou road to boro park (62nd & new Utrecht) via Kensington (16 avenue & cortelyou road) since it's elimination, it hasn't been missed
  22. what people need to realize, is that the Bx19 is actually management's prototype for the type of lines they want across the board in every boro, which is a negative perspective to have because this scenario can't be copied & pasted thru the entire network. but, they've been gradually pushing this s**t for awhile now.
  23. I'll take a swing at this... in one word: laughable. and i'm not saying that to be an a**hole or to seem cooler than the room, but come on! 2 one-directional loop routes thru lower Manhattan that travel across the willy-b to bk? that m41/43/44 mess is some of the most erroneous things I've ever seen. what are these "routes" attempting to accomplish? I'm not saying this as if you can answer my questions, seeing as you didn't take ownership of these, but damn, man. no. just no.
  24. amen. the area was already very dense as is, especially with DOT's street redesign. there's not much room in the way of layover spacing
  25. I'm not going to attempt to speak for anyone, however, what the general consensus is is that the bx19 doesn't necessarily empty out at one point, then reload. for example, longer routes (like the b6 or m101) one can clearly identify 2 or more passenger pockets aka concentrated service areas where at certain timepoints buses empty out, then carry air (turnover area) until they hit another passenger pocket. some would argue that lines that fit this criteria would be better served as shorter routes that focus headways that would be case specific to these concentrated areas, as opposed to a headway that may be beneficial to certain areas and be completely useless in others. hence, the argument for splitting lines like the Bx15 & bx19. i don't agree with splitting the 19 at all, and i can't name one spot on that line where there's runs carrying air, even at night. sorry to say, but the 19 based soley on wheelchair customers & the elderly, shouldn't be touched in a splitting fashion.
