  1. imo yet another oversight. as you stated, New York Av should absolutely be a mentioned via street.. well before the sbs situation.
  2. yes to all of this, especially the 45/65 argument re: via streets. is St. John's & Ralph actually Weeksville? jeez, i know it's not Crown Heights, especially not according to any Panamanian i know from north of Lincoln place. the B38 is another one! Via DeKalb & Via Lafayette. I'm shocked that hasn't been mentioned yet. the Longwood argument has been made by West Farms (former Kingsbridge) b/o's since the rock of ages was a pebble. that another one of those lazy, we-don't-have-enough-space-in-the-database-so-lets-squeeze-this-one-in codes going back to MaBSTOA's Port Authority bus purchasing days.
  3. with the way some of these destination signs cycle thru so quickly? 😂 i do get your point, but I've had a hard time reading some of the signs recently, because, wow... they're quicker than i expected, even with bold font. that's why i never snap at people on the bus who ask what's my last stop (I'm used to dull ass, don't-you-dare-try-to-read-me-at-night RTS signs) first sign that comes to mind that i find lightning fast: the sbs 53. i know where the bus terminates, but damn son, some people genuinely may not. even some of the express signs (out of Queens) are a bit rushed imo
  4. i meant NBA, because i know they used to be that descriptive as well. i thought the NFL out of any american sport was still doing that, but admittedly i haven't watched NFL in some years now (right about the time Kaepernick lost his job, actually) i actually hope they'd do their due diligence FINALLY, especially when it comes to the inconsistent lollipop signs, destination sign codes, pdf/paper timetables & paddles i honestly believe that it's utterly necessary for destination sign codes & paddle timepoints to be in sync. they just got the B46 AVENUE H short sign correct after that sign had been incorrect my entire life (30+ of saying B46 KINGS HWY? foh) the only place that has the neighborhood & intersection correct are on the paddles (if that, because the paddle timepoint abbreviations outdate the destination sign dispays & codes themselves, iinm) across the board, there are various degrees of negligence. if Apple, Google or whoever-da-f**k can be informative/descriptive, by way of technology, hell.. if the news can actually get neighborhoods correct in certain areas that are sub neighborhoods or overlapping with blurred borders, then transit can take their thumbs out of their asses, and put some effort into it, because the examples listed are downright tacky. you'd expect some of this half-hearted mediocrity from some second rate outfit or the PBL's in their heyday.
  5. yeah. not to get off topic, but the NFL has been consistent with that (ditto for association football). if Martin & Melvin Williams ended up on the same squad... Ma. Williams & Me. Williams! simple as that... descriptive information. bringing it back to transit, the other lazy shit I can't stand is that Q34 ROOSEVELT AV foolishness... i mean, the kiss-me-ass bus turns on 39th IDENTICALLY to the Q19/50/66. I'm so glad someone brought up the topic of neighborhood laziness. the Q9/Q40 comparison was epic. Q9 stops at rockaway blvd =South Ozone Park (correct) Q40 continues past rockaway blvd = South Jamaica (FAIL) 😂
  6. how's this for inconsistency... going back to when the 82 local destination short sign said 25 Av ÷ Cropsey (i forget when they changed it to 24 Av 🙄) the paddles have ALWAYS listed the last stop as Bensonhurst/bay 38/cropsey, if I'm not mistaken. so basically, the philosophy was "let's get the sign sequence corrected finally after 10+ years for this f***ing select, while the local can go screw. again, laziness. no other explanation.
  7. paerdegat basin = perfect the 14 was another one i never understood the lack of via Pitkin ÷ via sutter... man, I'm convinced that some, if not most of these code sequences and the lack of descriptive info are the result of absolute f***in' laziness... the 14 & 17 should've been foregone conclusions
  8. i agree slightly. yes, the B17 should've BEEN had a 'via Remsen Avenue' sequence. i don't like the Canarsie/Seaview for the east 80th branch because, well, let's be honest, there are some simple individuals that'll interpret that incorrectly. B17 Canarsie ÷ Seaview Av - East 80 Street B17 Via Remsen Av B17 Via Rockaway Pky Station i have no problem with your interpretation of the 108 branch. i do have to ask, what's incorrect with the southbound B60 sign aside from no 'via' readout? (ANOTHER line they could've added 'via' streets for) personally, I'd construct it as: B60 Canarsie ÷ Flatlands Av - Williams Av B60 Via Wilson Av ÷ Via Rockaway Av
  9. 😂🤣😂🤣 my God... so accurate. I'd love an accurate explanation of this, but i do believe the inconsistency stems from the way they had to enter code into the Luminator system for those odd RTS destination signs of the mid-90's (80xx thru 85xx series) although, you'd really think by now, they'd have been able to sort that out for the orions (OG & NG's) and other units that have come about since then. i think there should be a topic regarding destination sign codes that need updating, kind of like they did with the KINGS PLZ ----> KINGS PLAZA
  10. as was mentioned, coronavirus threw a monkey wrench into any future plans MTA had... including bus purchases/placements. everything is pretty much off the table. so there's absolutely no guarantees at this juncture, and if you are an informed surveyor, you'd know how many times supposed lock & key ideas/plans/proposals/moves died on the vine, so spare us the nostradamus-esque/definitely-happening-under-any-circumstances foresight/predictions
  11. that's what's happening on most buses (40 footers specifically in my experience) these days re: the double seats. people will sit in the aisle seat & put their bag or spread into the window seat. honestly, i haven't seen it on artic routes, like the 53sbs, bx15, etc. definitely on the Q22 & Q35 for example
  12. i believe it's way too early to know. the bus just reached the tri-state area two seconds ago. agreed. this just speaks not just to the age we live in (immediate gratification) but to this sense of entitlement the younger generation has, not to mention that they feel as if they are above criticism (criticism =hating/jealousy) this is the type of shit that creates your future narcissists & sociopaths.. oh, and by the way... i believe that kid is the same fool running around NYC with a Transit jacket & dispatchers cap, aggressively imposing upon B/O's to do codebreaks with his little friends. i know a few B/O's personally that don't like that kid. i wish he would..
  13. to my knowledge, r134a comes from the family of HFC refrigerants. freon is a refrigerant, and the trade name for CFC's (chlorofluorocarbons) which have been medically proven to have side effects when used in a prolonged fashion. i heard of r410a, the rose colored containers, which fall under freon branding. I've also heard r134 & 410a aren't to be used after 2024 under some rule from the EPA. i haven't gone that in depth with my homework on the specifics of the refrigerant classifications, I'll admit, but I know operators with pre-existing conditions or conditions that were incurred while in passenger service at MTA that are/were out on comp who attest to air conditioning/cold temperatures not being good for their conditions. my uncle had hip replacement surgery (just returned to Flatbush depot early june) that cold air on his right side is no good for him, and he usually suffers dizzy spells after being under the a/c too long. he combatted that by opening the driver side portal, and he claims to feel better. with that said, air conditioning is cool in doses, yet, be it freon/refrigerant, it's not healthy to inhale 7-9 continuous hours a day.
  14. no problem. most people don't know about this topic and the reasons behind it. ain't nothing wrong with a little natural oxygen (and plenty of water). it makes a world of difference behind that wheel
  15. also there are some operators (my uncle being one of them) that get ill from inhaling too much freon (excessive freon exposure) also, it's not recommended that you be exposed to freon for extended periods of time while in a sitting position. b/o's already have issues with nerve damage & blood clots in the legs from everyday operation, sitting under a a/c blower for over 7 hours a day isn't exactly the healthiest thing. even before covid-19, i opened windows on my runs. when i was younger, i sat under a/c's all day & nite. now, the cold gets in my muscles & joints. it's unbearable when you need your legs specifically to operate. the a/c (if it's working properly) is for the customers and mandatory to leave on.
  16. simply put: it didn't. it wasn't all the time that the SLD's at cooper would chop late 103's there, but there were definitely instances. now i will say if/when the Cooper union SLD did cut late 103's, he/she or the occasional dispatcher at city hall (that wasn't a manned post daily) would either pull 103's that were on time laying over at city hall or one of the many 101's to run a city hall to cooper union shuttle, not so much during the week, but definitely on weekends, especially Saturdays. if it was during the week, definitely am shoulder, or between 7ish-9pm
  17. this makes so much sense, that they'd automatically reject this idea on the basis of logical practicality. the B60 has always been a P.O.S. back to the east ny depot/New Lots ÷ stanley avenue destination sign/east ny avenue relief point days. from '93 til about '97 i rode the 60 frequently, always believing there had to be a better way of doing this (i had a commute from breukelen project to union Avenue, weekdays & Saturdays) btw right now @ 11:55am, there's only 1 northbound B60 out, at rockaway & Avenue d... 3 southbound: hooper, halsey and leonard.
  18. the irony is mind bending 😂🤣 ah, yes. M101/2/3 42 ST... M101/2 24 ST i believe there's one for the 103 as well, but it's rarely/never used. the way it goes on the 103 is if you're late to city hall, they'll just let you run into the SLD at cooper union, and he/she will cut you there and send you back uptown... happened to me several times (the SLD at 34 or 42nd usually instructed you to get the attention of that dispatcher... it was crazy, but the dispatcher at Cooper was the one responsible for that whole line... all others would defer to him/her... Amsterdam/two-five, Lexington/two-five, the "house" aka the SLD in the window at 100 street depot...) honestly, i always liked to see the M1/2/3/4 numbered street short signs... they didn't look as crammed in there like the 101/2/3 btw the M103 has a short sign to Cooper union that displays M103 East Village ÷ 6 St, but again rarely/never used (see explanation above)
  19. ah, that was a sight to see... orion 3G's, orion 5's, xd40's & LFS's all under one roof
  20. 😂😂 omg wow, I haven't seen that code in over a decade
  21. gotta be honest, my whole life I've operated under the knowledge that Broadway Junction WAS the actual east ny sub-neighborhood name. i can't clearly remember if the B40's sign displayed liberty av - Pennsylvania av as Broadway junction or east ny, but my borders for east ny were always considered Pennsylvania Avenue to the west Atlantic Avenue to the north, cozine to the south & crescent to the east. forbell/lincoln/drew/grant/elderts = city line imo 😂
  22. i agree wholeheartedly. very clean & concise. i openly laughed out loud at this, because that is truest statement I've read today. aside from the B15 spring creek short sign, the Q41/60 Jamaica - Archer avenue short sign or the B83 spring creek towers... can't think of any others. the 103 was done perfectly. btw i didn't include the Q8 east ny "short sign" because that'll always be the terminal in my mind. the gateway mall thing is a branch/extension imo. i didn't quote the whole paragraph, but your point re: the B11 and the B99 (which i DID forget) is spot on. i consider the B41 NOSTRAND AV & the B44 FLATBUSH AV short signs a tad on the lazy side as well. lol i didn't forget about the 74. honestly, i omitted it while trying to concoct a destination sign that "properly" describes what the line does, although i wouldn't mind terribly if it simply said "stillwell terminal".
  23. uggh! the B6 destination sign specifically has infuriated me since childhood. imo two routes' destination signs that need to get their s**t together: the B12 & B25. can we just get a uniform code since they both end at the Alabama (J)... a la the B103 & Q35? oh, speaking of that area, can the B11 sign get on board with the Q35 & B103 please? another thing (maybe I'm nitpicking) the B26/38/41/52/103 need to pick either downtown Brooklyn ÷ tillary or downtown Brooklyn ÷ cadman plaza... OR a combination of both, similar to the Q31 Bayside sign reading: first sign: Downtown Brooklyn (or DNTWN BKLYN) then: Cadman Plaza ÷ Tillary Street might be overkill, database wise. imo both the B14 & B17 should display Crown Heights (or CROWN HTS) then, Utica Av Sta ÷ Eastern Pky imo the B64, B68 & B82 should display Coney Island ÷ Stillwell Terminal
  24. when the community has made it abundantly clear they don't want to be sardine canned in & out of co-op via one bus, letalone add another leg to their commute if they aren't heading to the by chopping all other services in & out of there which is what transit has proposed every blasted time they suggest cutting service
  25. THANK YOU! which is what i was going to say to another respondent... I've lived on Northern Blvd (about 2 blocks from flushing h.s./YMCA Flushing) and have traveled immensely on both the Q50 & Q44 to/from the bronx at various times of day & night... NEVER have i seen a mad rush of LGA employess (i don't mean just TSA agents... ANY form of LGA employees) utilizing either line. that doesn't mean it doesn't occur, I'll submit to that. yet, I've never seen employees hopping off the 44 (limited/local or current sbs) or 50, then utilizing the 48. the 48 alone is proof that employees damn near refuse to travel to/from Roosevelt & main to get to work. furthermore, i traveled heavily on the during my time in Flushing (it was real easy to get to 100 street depot via the )... never saw employees coming from main street via train either. what i have known of people who work at LGA that live uptown (meaning northeastern bx) they will take the or to two-five. I'm not saying that's righteous or fair for them, or that they shouldn't have alternatives, however don't send the 50 somewhere it isn't needed, point-blank. no one can convince me that that's a good friggin' idea. yeah, send Q50's to LGA and (allegedly) close Casey Stengel to accommodate AirTrain from main street, when Q48's have had a difficult time amassing patronage since i don't know when. outstanding.
