  1. Westchester Bee Line has regular fare express bus service (except 4C which is premium fare), and some routes even use (or have used) coach buses W43, W77. Even the shuttle loops (which once had a slightly higher fare) now have normal fares and cushioned seats.

  2. The last Bx5 from Pelham Bay on weekdays should run a bit later than 10:22pm (or extend the weekday Bx5 to Bay Plaza). Currently anyone who misses the last Bx12 SBS has to hurry up and get the Q50, Bx29, or Bx23 after 10:00pm and hope that those buses will get to Pelham Bay in time for the last Bx5 bus (10:22pm), seeing as the Bx12 local isn't an option.

At least on weekends a late bus will no longer cause anyone to miss a Bx5 bus (especially the last one) since the route will be directly running to/from Bay Plaza.

  3. Yeah and? God forbid a bus doesn't run every five minutes on that line.... <_<

The Bx12 can still get crowded at that time, the gap is 24 minutes, the normal headway is 15 minutes, you figure out what could happen, even worse during the holidays.

IMO, having variations or services makes it more difficult to schedule when you have different headways. Some of the express buses have unusual changes in headways when the variation of service changes.

Some of the Brooklyn limited-stop buses have that too during midday and evening hours.

On Sunday the MTA has the first local leave at 10:06 after the last SBS leaves at 10:00 (and the local can still have a near seated load on a Sunday night after a 6 minute gap). MTA could have the last run from Pelham Bay start from Bay Plaza at 10:09 instead on weekdays. That gap makes it impossible to get the last Bx5 from Pelham Bay Park unless one rushes to another bus stop and hopes that another bus will get to Pelham Bay in time (Bx23, Bx29, Q50).

  4. The (5) is still running as a Dyre Avenue shuttle on the 4:22, 4:42, and 4:59am trips, guess MTA doesn't want to fill the gap in overnight service between E 180 St and Bowling Green anymore like they used to do whenever the (5) runs to Manhattan overnight.

The '2' also has 16-20 minute headways after 10:26pm out of Dyre, The '5' out of 241 kept many of its riders to Manhattan, saving them a transfer from the (2) to the (4) at that time. The '2' from Dyre at 10:26 wasn't empty either, maybe the weekday (5) should run a bit longer to Manhattan (at least the 10:13 and 10:26 could be extended to Bowling Green and return to E 180 St to connect to an OPTO (5) shuttle since OPTO begins at 12am).

  5. Service Change  Posted: 08/20/2015 12:00AM

Due to a train with mechanical problems at 14 St-Union Sq, southbound (2) and (4) trains are running local from Grand Central-42 St to Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall.

    Allow additional travel time.

    Delays  Posted: 08/20/2015 12:05AM

Following an earlier incident at 14 St-Union Sq, 2.png and 4.png train service has resumed with residual delays.

  6. Bx5 will be running from Bay Plaza until around midnight, Bx5 will be going to Bay Plaza until 12:50am on weekends in September, the Pelham Bay branch has a weekend service span extension to late evenings and early late night. onthego.mta.info and tripplanner has the new September Bx5 schedule up.

  7. Could be both a and b, the locals out of Bay Plaza after 9:30pm tend to pick up people while the SBS is still running (they may not be sure the SBS is still running at that time either).

If the SBS is usually crowded, that means more service will eventually be added, even if the local is empty. MTA could run the SBS another hour in the late evening into early late night and have enough ridership to justify it (especially if the local is cut back to Pelham Bay another hour in the late evening).

If SBS could run about two hours later, the local wouldn't really have to run to/from Bay Plaza at all, just run to Pelham Bay, until the last few SBS trips, then late night service to Edson Avenue.

  8. Two ideas

    1. Split the (A) line into three branches summer weekends only 8am-8pm.  Lefferts will be happy they will have an express so the longer waits wouldn't be a big deal to them.

    2. Extend every other (C) from Euclid to Rockaway Park summer weekends only 8am-8pm.

  9. BxM4 (the member) felt all nostalgic as far as restoring Bx26 service to Fordham and having the 28 serve all of Co-Op...I mean if he had proof that Allerton riders got royally screwed out of direct Fordham access, I'd understand.

BTW some Bx38's go to/from Fordham. I checked the schedule

there were protests about taking the Bx26 from Fordham

  10. Do downtown (5) trains become uptown (6) trains after 5am? It seems SubwayTime doesn't show any uptown (5) trains leaving Bowling Green (downtown trains are still ending there) but they do show extra uptown (6) trains (which are leaving Brooklyn Bridge long before the first downtown (6) arrives there).  Usually MTA would send all remaining trains back to Dyre at this time.

  11. Bump to the post above, and the extended (5) is running on Lex Exp, right? Why not terminate (6) at 125 St and run (5) local to save some $?

Loss of local service from 12am to 1:30am, the (5) isn't as frequent as the (6) at that time. The (4) had to run local earlier the last time the (6) was cut back, probably to help the (5) with the local stops.

  12. Not at all.

When the Bx41 SBS was implemented, that made the Bx55 segment north of Fordham Road redundant, given how there was more service provided than the Bx55, and faster. The MTA decided that the Bx55 was no longer in need of it's own designation, so it was extended to Manhattan and became today's Bx15 Limited, at this expense of the local terminating at the hub.

Bx55 runs are now Bx15 short turns to 149 St, Bx15 runs now are limited stop to Manhattan during weekdays.

  13. @Eric B: This isn't a new service pattern for when the Clark St tubes are closed. The only difference is that this time, the 2 is terminating at E 180 St. That is due to the Dyre Ave line being shut down for the umpteenth time. Otherwise, the 2 would probably run to Dyre Av per usual. As for not stopping at South Ferry, the suits probably don't want the trains making the stop there for the same reason 2 trains always skip 145 St when they run to Lenox Terminal, liability reasons. They don't trust the crews to not open the doors in the rear five cars, despite all of the reminder signage in both relevant stations.

Some (2) trains will still run on the Dyre line when the shuttle buses aren't running (Friday nights S/B until midnight and Monday mornings N/B after 5:00am)

  14. So, apparently ATS is showing this weekend's IRT disruptions and diversions as the 2 via Lexington Ave and the 5 via 7th Ave to Rector St instead of the correct 2 (E 180 St to Rector St) and extended 5 respectively. Now this isn't the first time this happened and this "glitch" happens because that's how the system is programmed to treat this particular service change, mainly because that's how this GO is run internally. It's just that there's usually someone to correct the visual data so it corresponds with the service change information stated on the website and in-station posters. Speaking of stations, I wonder if the electronic signs are showing the same "errors".

The countdown clocks show the correct information with the (2) E 180 St and (5) Wakefield-241 St readings

  15. I don't necessarily care for the last dropoff stop either (although I do understand it)... Walking that one block along 3rd av, to fordham is no picnic either.... Ah hell, we both know the whole area is a mess....

Sounds like a plan.... I do (well, would) favor the 40 over the 20 & the 60, AINEC.... Only part that would suck for me is the LONG ass (2) ride from Wakefield, to Church av (have a couple more 40 trips outside the rush run to the Bronx)

Email Andrew Ziegler azz1@westchestergov.com  for Bee Line suggestions (more 40/41 to/from 241 St and other suggestions)

Transfer from the (2) to the (4) or (5) (then back to the (2) if needed) to speed up the ride.

  16. Agreed, that walk from MNRR Fordham to Grand Concourse is an absolute PITA... Especially on the weekend, where everyone & their mammas are out shopping along Fordham (rd).... This is actually a reason I stopped fanning/taking the BL-60/61 to/from white plains; the walk from the Concourse to Fordham Plaza is that much of a deterrent for me.... As much as I don't care for riding the 20 out there, I'll put up with it, over the 60 (since at least you can get off the (4) @ BPB & it's right there......

You could also email Bee Line and ask them to consider extending more 40 buses to/from 241 St. Maybe if enough people request it, it may happen since it is better than the 20 to/from White Plains.

  17.

Are you serious? Mount Vernon is not going to use an express bus.  Those people will use Metro-North and I'll explain why.  From Mount Vernon to Fordham the fare is $3.00 as it's an intermediate section of the line.  From there they can use their Metrocard and get the bus or to the subway to get into the city, which is apparently what a lot of them do from what I've seen.  Most of Mount Vernon while not poor is certainly not affluent and has seen better days, so they're looking to get around as cheap as possible.  Mount Vernon suffered from a lot of flight and hasn't recovered from it.

W40, W42, W52, or W55 to the subway would be better than MNR to Fordham and a walk or a bus ride to the subway. MNR Fordham has no direct subway next to it.

  18. Something else I wanted to add... When the (MTA) wants a service to do well, they know how to advertise it.  They've been very aggressive about increasing Metro-North ridership in Riverdale and in Spuyten Duyvil and they put up several posters marketing the Hudson Rail Link bus and having a quick commute to Grand Central at numerous bus shelters in the area.  Those posters stayed up for months along Riverdale Avenue and Kappock St.  Then they announced more frequent service for both Metro-North stations here, and ridership has steadily been increasing, so in short the (MTA) is well aware of the markets they have and how to attract new riders and where to get the most bang for the buck.  I'm not so sure that they're being as aggressive as they could with attracting more BxM4 riders.

They need to run Hudson Rail Link on weekends as well, unless people walk to the stations, or use express buses instead.
