  1. The (3) and (5) ran extended service overnight to actually replaced lines that didn't have access to their terminals in their respective routes. The (D) Train via 8th Avenue to/from 2nd Avenue has happened many times and its less confusing than overnight (C) Service running between 205th Street and 2nd Avenue.

That would however eliminate the need for two different (D) trains.

  2. With that in mind, perhaps what should have been done was have the (D) coming from Coney Island run via the (Q) to 96th-2nd (or Times Square since the (Q) I believe runs local anyway late nights).

Other work-around could have been where the (D) coming from Coney Island runs to Broadway-Lafayette and terminates there (there is I believe a crossover to get to the southbound track to go back).

This is why they need to build a crossover on the southbound side north of Broadway-Lafayette.

How about renaming the north part of the (D) to (C) since it is mainly running the (C) route between 145 and W 4? MTA runs extended (3) and (5) service overnight for construction, so a late night (C) could work in this case. That makes more sense than the (B) or (D) to 96 St-2 Av.
  3. There were (2) trains going to both 241 St and Dyre Av for about 1 hour Monday morning between 6-7am. There were also (2) trains leaving both 241 St (0401,0421) and Dyre Av (0400,0420) around the same time. MTA stopped the (5) service from 241 St earlier than expected, leading to excess (2) trains. Even worse northbound with (2) trains to 241 St and Dyre Av bunching up. The (2)(5) swap isn't even consistent with the scheduling. They can extend Friday night (5) service to Bowling Green to maintain (5) service in Manhattan, but won't do the same thing on Monday Morning. Why bother running the Dyre shuttle for one hour S/B and duplicate N/B shuttles while through service is running. Just run the (5) to/from Bowling Green after the G/O ends to maintain 20 minute headways until the AM rush begins.

  4. Even so, what Lance said still holds. Seeing a train run on a different trunk is not abnormal; how many times do the (2) and (5) switch it up, or the (E) and (F)?

An overnight (B) service is literally unprecedented, and there's no reason to establish expectations for one like that, especially since many (B) riders on 6th Avenue are looking for CPW.

The (B) has ran overnight before, last time in 2001.

  5. The last 5 (B) trains in the evening can also be extended to the Bronx in service instead of dead heading. There are also two midday (B) trips that could also be extended to the Bronx from 145 St. Trains leave 145 St at 9:25, 9:35, 9:45, 9:55, 10:05, 10:15, 10:25, 10:35 going back to Brooklyn. Trains are scheduled to terminate at 145 at 9:20, 9:27, 9:32, 9:39, 9:49, 9:57, 10:05, 10:11, 10:19, 10:29. Two of those trains could also stay in service past 145 since they are not going back to Brooklyn.

  6.  What is interesting though is that they don't run more service on Sundays.  Those first few Northbound trips get all of the Bronx Zoo crowds.  They pack up those buses on another level.

    Any standees on those trips?

They should try extending the BxM8 to City Island on summer weekends to get more riders in both directions.

  7. Q50 LTD to LGA would attract more riders than the Q48 would. It would eliminate a double fare for many in the East Bronx to get to LGA, plus serve Queens riders who currently use the Q48. The Bx50 SBS would also cut down on LGA double fares, but it is unfunded at the moment.

  8. Some Bx5 drivers still skip the Bx23/Q50 stop (with people waiting) and go over to the Bx12 local stop (which was supposed to be the original Bx5 stop, which was never marked, but still has the Bx5 bus schedule there). And people do wait for the Bx5 there, and get skipped, almost like they want people to pack on to the Bx12 SBS (which can be overcrowded and the only other bus that isn't running 30 minute headways at the time).

  9. Extend span of service to/from Hutchinson Metro Center for little cost

Add new Bx24 trips from Westchester Square to the 911 Call Center at 5:17am and 5:47am weekdays and 5:16 and 5:46 weekends. These buses will just go in service at Westchester Square instead of deadheading into the Hutchinson Metro Center, easily expanding the span of service.

Add new Bx24 trips from the 911 Call Center to Westchester Square at 10:33pm and 11:03pm on Sunday - Friday and 10:35pm and 11:05pm on Saturday. These will be trips that will stay in service back to Westchester Square instead of currently deadheading out of the Hutchinson Metro Center.

  10. If the Q48 is taken out of LGA, then extend the Q50 to LGA. If the Q50 becomes too unreliable, then split up the route between the Q50 and Q51. The Q51 would run between Pelham Bay Park and LGA while the Q50 will be the Co Op City Flushing route again. This will be of no cost to the MTA since it will be fully reimbursed.

  11. Its only one Arnine train. Plus 6 Av is busy during the holiday season. And then you have Rockerfeller Center which has the Christmas tree. Makes sense to run it there in the first place.

They could make it two trains by adding the Triplexes. Broadway would be an alternative if 6th isn't available.

  12. Yep... Quite the extensive GO for the time of year... I think you can kiss that Holiday R1 goodbye too...

Vintage trains could run as extra (F) service, at least the Triplexes and Arnines
