  1. This doesn't make any sense, Why run a Dyre shuttle (in mostly one direction at a time) for a few hours anyway, just keep the (5) running completely on Friday evening.

The 5 is running to/from Wakefield-Flatbush while the 2 is running to/from Dyre-SF. People living on the Dyre branch would've had to transfer regardless if they wanted access to Brooklyn on weekends. Also, the amount of people traveling to/from Brooklyn to the Bronx via subway is more than likely miniscule compared to the amount of people who need acess to Manhattan.

The needs of the many > the needs of the few. The work must be done.

This affects people going to Manhattan as well,  more crowded (2) to an even more crowded (4) making ALL stops, even worse if you are going to lower Manhattan.

    How?

Brooklyn only has the (4) and (5) instead of the (2),(3), and  (4).   MTA saves money during the day, only during the night would MTA  ((3) and (5) crews are running extended services) would the MTA lose a bit, but it is still overall weekend savings for MTA.

Passengers are used to this service plan (#5 White Plains to Flatbush via Lex, 4 to New Lots, 2 to South Ferry, 3 to 14/7) with weekend schedules.

No sense confusing them for a few days when no Clark St. work done.  I approve.

It also saves MTA money to keep the Clark Street Tunnels closed

  5. Subway Time showed the Clark Street tunnels open after 1am for some reason with the (2) to Brooklyn and the (5) as a Dyre shuttle.  The (3) was shown to be ending at 42 St, MTA needs to fix those errors, as the Sunday (2)/(3)/(5) schedules should have been in effect until 5am, not 12-1am.

I mean I could understand for a Monday holiday (Christmas and New Years come to mind) but a Thursday holiday where people specifically need to go to the West Side for the parade? That’s not fair for Brooklyn riders.

Speaking of New Years tho... New Years Eve is on a Sunday; are they still going to close the Clark tube on that day as well?

Yes, MTA made the (2) / (5) swap regular weekend service until Summer 2018 so the Clark Street Tunnels will be closed that day.

The tunnels will also be closed on President's Day and Memorial Day as well. The tunnels were also closed on 4th of July (Tuesday).

  7. Good news is for those in Manhattan and the Bronx extended (5) service. The (5)  would normally start late and end early on a 'normal' weekend schedule. (5) runs better on the weekends than weekday (Monday-Thursday) evenings. MTA also saves money as long as these changes are in effect. The (3) is also extended late night  and early morning to 14 St (instead of 42 St), so there is another positive.

I hope whoever the idiots are that decided to start tomorrow's Yankees game at 4 pm let the MTA in on this. There's NO way service on the (4) and (D) during the 3-4 pm hour will handle all those stadium travelers plus the after-school crowd.

The game starts at 5pm, the Lo-V's will run around 4pm. (B)(D) service between 4-5pm is better equipped to handle the crowds than (D) service 7-8pm. Also (B) service ending at 145 adding crowds to the long platform of people waiting for the (D) to show up doesn't help.

  9. The (5) extension to/from Bowling Green on Friday evenings (10:13/11:26, 10:26/11:40, 10:38/11:55, 10:48/12:05) should be made permanent. It helps get people off the (4) train, which is still crowded after 11pm.

MTA should also extend the 4:02, 4:22, and 4:42 to/from Bowling Green on Monday mornings instead of running those trains to E 180 St, keeps the (5) running  continuously (no more than 20-22 minute gap in service) and plugs the gap in service between E 180 St and Bowling Green. There is currently a gap in service  at E 180 St towards Manhattan (last '5' at 4:10am, first (5) at 5:12am). There is also gap at Bowling Green towards the Bronx (last '5' at 4:57am, first (5) at 6:18am). The extended (5) service would leave Bowling Green at 5:17, 5:37, and 5:59 (there is a (4) train scheduled to leave Bowling Green at 5:57)

They already do this on Friday nights, why not Monday mornings, they did it in 2011. When the Dyre line is shut down, they already run extra '2' trains from E 180 St to South Ferry at 4:19 and 4:39 on Monday mornings so (5) crews are running as the '2' from South Ferry on some Mondays until around 5:44am.  This is after the (2) begins going to/from Brooklyn.

Normally the last '2' to reach E 180 St toward South Ferry on Monday is at 3:57am and the last '2' to leave South Ferry back towards Dyre Avenue is at 5:02am. Seems like MTA would rather run both the (2) and '2' on the 7th Avenue Local together between 4:30am and 6:30am instead of running the (5) on the Lexington Avenue Express after the '5' stops running.

  10. Those are (5) trains going to and from 241 St. It's likely a glitch that shows them as the (2).

No, both routes are running on 7 Av after 4:30am S/B, 5:00am N/B, they are both running as (2) trains with no Lexington (2) or (5) service. The (5) crews are still operating as '2' trains even after the Clark Street Tunnel has re-opened. Those trains should be running as (5) trains to Bowling Green like Friday nights.

'2' trains were leaving South Ferry until 5:44am, the first (2) leaving Flatbush going to 7 Av was 4:40am

  11. The (R) already has a transfer to the (J) and (6) trains at Canal Street. Besides, late night (R) trains only run in Brooklyn as a shuttle. (N) Trains make stops in that segment. Also, the (R) can't realistically end at Chambers unless you're talking about the WTC stop.

Late night (R) trains run to Whitehall from Brooklyn, he wants the late night (R) to run up the Nassau line from Brooklyn to Chambers.

  12. Seems like the Clark Street tunnel shutdown helps the Lexington line on late Friday evenings and early Saturday mornings by relieving the crowded (4) train with the extra (5) service from Bowling Green. Maybe the Friday (5) shuttle service extensions from Dyre Avenue/Bowling Green (10:13/11:26, 10:26/11:40 10:38/11:55, 10:48/12:05) should be made permanent.

  13. If the (C) went to Lefferts, wouldn't they need several more (A) trains to maintain service levels? Or, would every other (A) train turn at Howard Beach?

The (S) would be eliminated(except late nights) so those cars would be free to be used to extend half of the (A) service to Rockaway Park

  14. Then how hard would it be for them to put "Dyre Av-bound trains..." or something like that?

The routes are run as they are to keep the train crews on the appropriate routes. The (5) from 241 Street to Flatbush Av is a similar length to its 7th Avenue counterpart and thus will run with (2) line crews. Similarly, the (2) route from Dyre Av to South Ferry is close enough to the normal (5) route to Bowling Green that it will use the normal (5) line crews. It's more beneficial for the train crews than it is for the riders. With that said, Dyre Ave riders are making out like bandits with almost 24/7 Bronx - Manhattan service through either the weekday (5) or weekend (2).

The (5) is extended to Bowling Green late Friday evenings(10:13, 10:26, 10:38, 10:48) but not early Monday mornings(4:02, 4:22, 4:42) for some reason. Might as well plug the gap in service at Bowling Green from 4:57 to 6:18 and keep the (5) running instead of having extra (2) trains running to both 241 and Dyre at the same time. Also having (5) Dyre shuttles running with (2) trains to Dyre is a waste.

  15. The (2)(5) schedules don't show the late Friday night early Saturday morning (extended (5) service to Bowling Green) nor the early Monday morning service((2) to both 241 St and Dyre Av at the same time) Looks like MTA will have to run supplements each week then, unless MTA will cut back on the extended Dyre shuttles to Bowling Green on Friday nights.

  16. Really? The local Bx12 B/O's kick people off the bus when you try to use an SBS ticket...

You can farebeat thru the back (and even the front) and they won't say anything, but if you flash the ol' SBS receipt, that's when they'll tell you to pay or get off. Go figure.

How about when the SBS stops running and the machines still give out tickets?
