  1. Agreed... There are too many trips running out to Freeport Absolutely not. When the n20 was one route (including the old n20L), it simply saw more riders (from Queens) riding past Roslyn.... That ridership isn't coming back... Broadway Mall's hanging on by a thread, you're not going to see anywhere near the amt. of students on NICE buses at any of the colleges (SUNY Old Westbury, LIU Post, NYIT - LI campus).... .....that, and never mind the fact that Hicksville in & of itself saw a massive demographic shift b/w 2010 & 2020 (used to be like 70% White & 7-8% Asian or something like that, now it's around 50% White & 30% Asian last I saw... In case you don't know, the vast majority of those Asians out there are Indian)... That was around the time when businesses were closing left & right out there..... Anyway, not that it was ever super high or anything, but still, there were simply more White people in general that used to utilize NICE buses in Hicksville, than those Indians out there are doing now - and by no means do I see that changing if an n20X were to run out there.... The route they use the most is probably equally split b/w the (n78/79) & the n80, and each of their patronages of them are LOOOOOOWWWW.... All that aside, it's a miracle that NICE even runs as many total n20H trips during the day that they do. Yeah, there's a small consensus on here that says that the (western split of the) n22 should be the one going to RFM, while the n24 should be the one ending at Mineola... What you're saying with how you'd run the n22x, is how the n22x previously ran in the prior rendition of the thing (as in, how the n22x ran, before they came out with this nonstop BS between RFM & Hicksville via OCR).... At this point, I'd just run the n22x b/w Jamaica & RFM & provide more service on the eastern split of the n22....
  2. Didn't even notice that (about the Q44)... Not that it makes any real difference at this point (not that this should even be questioned), but I wonder which SBS route has the highest percentage of paying customers...
  3. Some of these I've mentioned/suggested on this forum.... Guess I can say, you're welcome?? But yeah, they should've been dropped the n72 notation, n15 County Seat Drive trips to Mineola (instead of to RFM) simply makes sense to me from a runtime & a usage standpoint (although I would have some select n40/41 trips divert to serve County Seat instead, to have the current n15's that serve County Seat end at Hempstead... don't really need n15's & n40/41's running b/w Hempstead & Mineola), and those n22x's b/w Hicksville & RFM carried way too much air, as it was a blatant disservice to Westbury & New Cassel patrons on the n22.... As for some of these other changes, running n71's b/w Farmingdale Coll. & LIRR Amityville is going to bomb (although I do like the forward thinking here.... this appears to be some sort of pilot/setup for when Sunrise completely closes)... Running the Jones Beach service all the way to October 1st (not listed in the initial post on here) I'm not so sure it's worth it.... Given the way they split the n22/n24, while increasing n22 service is good for those folks (Jamaica-Mineola), they gotta do something with those n24's towards Jamaica bunching in the morning.... With the n20X rush hour addition & the n21 midday service addition, that could spawn a future scenario where they have n20H's stopping dead at Roslyn when n20x's are in operation.... Lastly, while noble, I think it may be a day late & a dollar short with increasing n27 service.... When they made the detrimental changes that they did to the n27, a lot of that patronage flat out evaporated...
  4. I'll just let a picture speak a thousand words for me.... This is the shit that's becoming more of a norm over here.... This is as of today, as of 2:20pm. On second thought, let me go on a mini-rant here..... Buses are arriving in three's (and sometimes fours) at Mother Gaston (one bus out of the group of 3's or 4's usually goes OOS)... Couple mins. after the fact, a LTD & a local will leave within 2-3 mins of each other.... Then after the initial two buses depart, there's about a 5-7 min. interval/interim before the next two buses leave.... It's almost guaranteed that by time those 4 buses hit Nostrand, they will arrive within seconds of each other.... Just look at the cluster of 4 EB buses b/w Utica & Kings Hwy, and the 4 consecutive WB buses b/w Mother Gaston & Church/Linden within minutes of each other.... I'm going to wait & see what happens when the last of those 4 WB buses reaches Nostrand... This trend will not get any better around 4-5pm either..... The long & the short is, the stint between Kings Hwy & Utica has become more of a chokepoint during the day.... The amount of double parking b/w Utica & 51st is beyond ridiculous now. Edit: of those 4 EB buses b/w Utica & Kings Hwy, only one of them is a local !
  5. Oh, I'm not making this about where the proposed B55 should terminate on its western end, to have everything all be well with it... My sentiment is that proposed B55, period, shouldn't come to fruition.... It's a terrible tradeoff to extend B35 locals to Sunset Park to have the skip-stop service along Church extended way out to JFK (even if it means curtailing coverage west of McDonald)..... That is going to f*** up the LTD/local dynamic along Church more than what's going on currently with the B35, with how delayed buses are on a daily basis.... I shouldn't be waiting for a dollar cab at Nostrand around 5pm on a weekday afternoon & seeing the countdown clock for a B35 local read a whopping 22 minutes, with the corresponding LTD reading 16..... Now I'm not implicating that's normal, but my point with that is those type of waits will be more closer to a norm, have both service types along Church get altered to the tune that's being proposed..... I'd say the B49/B68 swap and it's not all that close...
  6. Rather than multi-quote, I'll do it like this.... Considering this most recent topic of conversation, this is more or less how I would handle matters (outside of leaving the Q36 as-is): Leave the Q2 as proposed, routing-wise Have the proposed Q82 take 212th pl. southbound, instead of taking Hollis Ct. Blvd.... Rest of the routing to be left as proposed Breakup the Q57 into: a Liberty av route running between Rockaway Blvd & Sutphin , via Liberty & Sutphin a Jamaica av route running between [Myrtle/Hillside] & [Jamaica/257th] to have the current Q55 maintained a "rush"/purple route variant of this, would run b/w Jamaica-257th & 165th st terminal, via Jamaica > 170th (NB) > Hillside > Merrick > en route to the terminal Basically, I'm against extending the current Q55 to Jamaica proper and/or having a third route terminate at Jamaica/170th - when nothing should really be ending there (proposed Q55), running a Jamaica av. route up to Hillside/LNP (proposed Q57), basically combining the current Q110 & current 112 (proposed Q57), turning the Q2 into a rush only route (proposed Q2), having the Q82 be a rush only route (proposed Q82).... What I don't necessarily take issue with, is having a route running out of 165th terminal doing Hillside > 212th > Hempstead av, en route to Belmont park/UBS (proposed Q82) & doing away with the current Q112's "backdooring" to Jamaica proper (proposed Q57).... For the n24 stealing ridership along Jamaica av. concerns, well I'd like to see how many intra-Queens riders would still bother embarking on n24's during peak times, over utilizing a route that would run clear along Jamaica av. from the county line to 170th, en route to 165th terminal (via 169th )....
  7. I'm not getting into whether the subway safety issue is real or perceived/overblown (as I've heard/read enough arguments for both sides), but what I will say to that part (in bold) is that I've never seen anyone going to that length to jump a turnstile in this city.... Not even necessary for anyone to do that; the shit is almost as easy as breathing with the way mf-ers are out here jumping turnstiles (or otherwise farebeating in the subways).....
  8. There's not much to think about.... There are more paying customers on the M15 than on the B46 & the Bx12.... It is as simple as that. Some of that had to do with the (real, and/or perceived... depending on who you ask) safety of the subway.
  9. His post had me questioning some shit for a second.... Because I was like, aint them short turns been in place..... Rode the B8 last Sunday... Planned on riding the full route to Bay Ridge.... He notes that I'm the only person on the bus after a group of people got off at the last stop before it turns off Cropsey (short of 14th av).... When we arrived at VA Hospital, all of a sudden "LAST STOP, LAST STOP".... He then sped off afterwards (not sure if he DH'd to the depot or what).... At the time, I was thinking he had the wrong destination sign on the bus & it was an actual short turn... I then look on the schedule, and the trip (which left Rockaway av. at the exact corresponding posted time on the schedule) was supposed to be trip to Bay Ridge.... So IDK WTF was up last week with that.... The B8 in general though, yeah, it's been bunching like crazy lately (moreso than normal).... 18th av is almost becoming as unbearable as 8th av {B70} to ride along.... The eastern half of the route & the western half of the route used to be equally sluggish... These days, buses tend to move better on the eastern half of the route (say, east of CI av) - at least IME's.... Not sure if this amounts to being selfish per se, but I was never fond of the B8's (well, extension in general, but specifically) routing past Remsen... It's a waste of time.... Always thought buses should stay on Av. B all the way to the end, then go E. 98th > Linden > Rockaway Pkwy., to terminate alongside the laundromat... The current stop for Brookdale Hosp. at Linden/Rockaway Pkwy. would be a Brownsville bound stop instead of a Bay Ridge bound stop.... For the return trip, buses would make that right onto Church, then go [E. 98th || Hegeman] > [Amboy || E. 98th] > Av B > en-route to regular routing.... So basically >>This<< instead of {{this}}..... Not that this is my reason for the sentiment, but while probably petty, having the B8 destination sign read BROWNSVILLE CHURCH AV might draw more people into taking the route - even though the route literally runs on Church av. 🙈💀 Just checked on bustime... So now buses don't begin & end at that stop proximate to the depot, they got buses ending at 25th/Cropsey.... I suppose this makes sense not just from a destination sign uniformity standpoint, but from the vantage point of the EB B82 as far as passenger pickup goes.... At times, you have to wedge yourself between buses parked on the curbside at the NB Cropsey/Bay 37th stop to board a B82 (or a B6 coming straight out of the yard)... Similar scenario early in the morning waiting for an EB Q24 or Q56 at the Jamaica/Georgia stop.... Or maybe they could take a page out of NJT's book & simply have their destination sign read Ulmer Park Depot.... Then again, the average rider's not going to know wtf a Ulmer Park is, so nvm... Lol.... In any event, When did they make this operational change to the B6? I've been walking in, around, over, and through that part of the heart of Jamaica all these years..... and didn't know that shit had a name for it.... 40+ years, and I have literally never heard any reference to a Jamaica Colosseum Mall up until this point.... Damn. Speaking of construction, just what are they fixing/propping up on over there by Jamaica/168th? I'm surprised that the DOT hasn't temporarily discontinued that bus stop on 168th, after the turn off Jamaica av, where the MTAB routes (Q6, 8, y'all know what they are)... Shit is dangerous to be having people wedging between cement trucks & other construction vehicles idling in that immediate area.... That part of 168th is tight enough as it is, without the construction vehicles there...
  10. I've been having very little interest in these ridership stats for the past couple years now, and this is the main reason why.... You got a whole culture of farebeating in effect throughout the city (it isn't just limited to the quote-unquote usual suspects anymore), and coupled with the systemwide ridership losses of 2020, things are HEAVILY skewed.... Case in point, now anyone that knows the system knows that there's no way in f*** that the Q58, authentically, garners more patronage than the damn Bx12.... And the M15 garners almost 3 million more riders than the runner-up - When there's been a close "battle" for bragging rights (so to speak) between the Bx12 & the M15 for years (before 2020)? Man, come on, Who believes this!?!??!! IINM, this thread, with the few replies it's gotten thus far, has more replies than the thread for last year's stats.... Lol.... so the 2023 stats will show the Q70 as having Zero riders.... The B60 will also see a noticeable ridership "decline" in the 2023 stats, as that route's set to be fare free come this fall....
  11. * B44 SBS. What you're saying there in bold, is one of the reasons why I believe they're using the B44+ & its resources as a substitute for the B4... Lol.... Having locals run to Sunset Park from Brownsville isn't great at all.... That's how things were before LTD's became a thing.... To riders, I'd say what masked how long the average B35 runtimes were, was the sheer frequency of the route back then.... I think it's nothing short of asinine to have the locals run the full route of the current B35 LTD, to have this B55 be the skip-stop service along Church, running out to JFK... Buses along Church av (the locals and/or this B55) are going to be more delayed than B15's get b/w JFK & Woodhull....
  12. I'm trying to figure out what they're referring to, myself....
  13. The proposed B36 would still go to CI Hospital. Anyway, the fact of the matter is that diverting the B44+ to CI Hospital isn't a substitute for the proposed B4 no longer serving it (I honestly think they're stupid enough to believe it will be)... The B44 coming from points north of Av. Z & the B4's service area south of Av. Z are literally diametrically opposed to one another..... Worse than that, the B36 & the proposed B44 would parallel each other from Av. U/Nostrand to CI Hospital... To make the B36 that much more useless (as plenty of folks currently xfer from the B44 to the B36 along Nostrand - with most usually doing so at the B36's first stop) to have the B4 run straight on Neptune to Stillwell? Never mind subjecting the B44+ to the traffic along Av. Z.... They can take this part of the plan & shove it.
  14. No, but I find it interesting that they can opt to run jitneys way out to Willowbrook, yet all those Riverview Towers patrons right across the river gotta walk to downtown Paterson to catch them.
  15. I'd say it has no business even being on Hollis Court.... For one, the distance between Hollis Court & Francis Lewis is shorter, than the distance b/w 212 pl. & Springfield (in other words, 212 pl is more centralized b/w Francis Lewis & Springfield, than Hollis Court Blvd is).... Secondly, the SB buses can still run straight down 212 pl. to Hempstead av... Thirdly, how much time is really gonna be saved taking Hollis Court, over any of the other SB streets b/w Francis Lewis & Hempstead av.....
  16. To maintain 3 min. peak headways to/from Catalpa, more or less, yeah..... Now I'm not all that fond of that branch per se, but an alternative to canning that branch & having all service run to Catalpa, is to increase headways.... Which raises the question - does the B38 warrant service that frequently... I would merely propose a branch of the B83 on Van Siclen to solve this.... In other words, the current B83 would be a branch of the proposed B83.
  17. Amazing from a passenger standpoint, sure... From an operations standpoint however, having all B38 service end at Catalpa (regardless of the fact that it's an artic route) will be unsustainable.... There's simply no room for all these buses at a time to layover there... (The streets of) Ridgewood in & of itself are as narrow as anything & growing more congested as we speak, on top of it.... Something is going to have to give.
  18. Rather inaccurate, as trains throughout the day are consistently plagued with delays in/out of Jamaica..... The one thing that's all the more conspicuous (compared to how things were, pre-ESA) are the increasing of these last minute track changes on top of it.... The LIRR is just a mess all the way around... This is what you get when you have problems cascading, due to lazy scheduling.
  19. The dude should get arrested for unlawful assembly at the very least... NYPD could also charge him with inciting a riot (which is a more severe charge).... He knows the reach/influence he has... I'd go as far to say that he knows how broke a lot of the kids/young adults that follow him, are... Just Irresponsible & stupid all the way around.
  20. If this was their slogan, I would literally ride their buses every... single..... week.... We got two worrrds for ya - Suf-Folk !!!
  21. It's great that the vast majority of MTA buses have working a/c, but something that's annoying is when you can't even close the windows to keep the cool air inside the buses, because the latches are broken.... Try to close the window, couple seconds later, window drops right back down..... smh.....
  22. Aside from the turnaround scenario, another problem that plagues the B12 is the LIRR underpass between Fulton st & Junius st.... It creates a bottleneck.... A lot of that is traffic coming off the Jackie Robinson Pkwy.... Basically, the nature of what buses along the route have to deal with, you're never going to fully fix the problems on the thing.... I don't consider the B10 a step in the right direction, because again, they're suggesting taking service away from the B12 in order to come up with it. I have not heard anything about bus lanes along ENY av.... Would be rather odd to have them there IMO..... I'm referring to the current turnaround scenario being significantly more of a time waste than the old turnaround scenario on the Alabama av. end of the B12.... The B12 doesn't run to City Line anymore.... From the last dropoff stop: the old turnaround scenario went Fulton-Georgia-Jamaica the current turnaround scenario is Fulton-Pennsylvania-Atlantic-Alabama
  23. I was never all that fond about the way the B65 "backdoors" into Downtown Brooklyn (referring to the portion west of Flatbush, en route to getting to Smith/Livingston)... Having the B65 proposed to turn up Washington I happen to concur with; the fact of the matter is that folks do value Atlantic Terminal over Bergen .... However, proposing removing the current B45 WB stop at S. Portland is pretty stupid.... Having the WB B65 run along Atlantic to stop at the far corner of Atlantic/4th (a current WB B63 stop) after the current B45 WB stop at Carlton is going to be a huge deterrent..... The MTA got it right when they discontinued service east of Alabama ; those buses carried way too much air past that point... 2010 was way too late for that old portion of the route.... With that said, going back to the old turnaround scenario on the eastern end of the route (which they're not going to do, for safety reasons) would mitigate matters; it wouldn't quell those problems.... IINM, weekday headways are more or less the same.... Being that the B47 has to contend with a lot more than the old B78 did though (which includes Broadway traffic), its quality of service is worse than what the B78 was.... Weekend B47 headways are simply worse than what the old B78's were.... I'm not only referring to headways, but reliability as well..... The B78 was a reliable route before they started tinkering with service, not too long before the creation of the current B47.....
