I agree, 14th Street could've been planned much better to the point where businesses would benefit way more with the street space. Outdoor dining would've made more sense with the idea of a pedestrian plaza of some sort. The amount of missed opportunities that plague 14th Street now with the unused space has gone up ever since.

West 3rd(and that general vicinity of Greenwich Village) is a nightmare, even for people walking on the sidewalk, MacDougal as well. As an e-bike owner, I avoid that area as much as I can.

As for the bike lanes, the only ones I've ever seen enforced(in Manhattan) is the one on 8th Avenue. The ones on 1st and 2nd Avenue are never enforced and you always have cyclists going down the opposite direction of the bike lane/street. I always end up wanting to fight someone over how stupid they are on the bike lane sometimes. I just end up staying on the traffic lanes for that reason, and I always take advantage of the bus lane while I can.

I am obviously pro-transit and want things to be better for buses and trains altogether, but you also cannot turn a blind eye to the damage the city and the DOT has done to the city with their lack of planning. The one-track mind ideology is not the way things should be done. I wish they would come up with plans that would benefit both transit and car owners, especially since other major cities in the US have done so, and the way they planned the Fordham busway would have done a lot more damage than it would improve things.

This is my biggest pet peeve, Idiots blowing through the bike lanes in the opposite direction and blowing red lights. The amount of times i almost got hurt because of these idiots I've lost count. They need to enforce the rules on every major bike lane because it's getting very annoying.

Good list but I personally would give the (C) the R38s instead of the R32s

R32's were mainly on the (C) for years after GOH with a set or two of R38s while the (A) had the majority of the R38 fleet with a set or two of R32s until they started mixing the R32s/38s. The (C) went 100% R38s when all of the r32s were pushed to Jamaica and all the R40s/R42s were on the (A)  until the R32s returned to the (C) in January 2009.

......Which is why prioritizing TRANSIT by using bus lanes is the RIGHT way to get MASSES across the Bronx in a RAPID manner.

Instead, these boneheaded storeowners are intentionally making Working-Class people suffer.

......There are also too-many self-hating transitfans here......What happened to actually SPEEDING up TRANSIT for the MASSES?

Too many busfans here care more about the BEEPS and the VROOM-VROOMS of buses than the commuters who actually want to get somewhere today, not yesterday.

......And then y'all wonder why ridership keeps going down and people keep buying cars.

Store owners are retarded, They'll never learn. In the 70's they cried about the J train and (MTA) caved and business went to shit on Jamaica Ave since there was no subway for 12 years.

The Bx12 is garbage just like the M15 due to politics and bullshit. This area needed the Busway badly.

I thought CBTC prevented that from happening?

it's still possible since they are still wayside signals on the line and it's happening on a Saturday. The 3rd of November would mark 20 years since the redbirds retired. Also The express tracks are available so they can run the train back and forth between 33rd and willets point without disrupting service.

Its nice to hear that the R-268 Contract is a thing. Now its only a matter of time before we learn about what the base order will consist of and if there will be any Option orders.

It'll probably a 800 car order. You need 755 60 foot R268s to replace the entire R68 fleet, They'll probably add an additional 45 cars for fleet expansion totaling up to 800 cars. Makes me think the Base would be at least 400 cars with the option order being 400 cars.

I wonder if the R268 will have a different design from the R211’s, I don’t want another R179’s situation, reusing the same design from previous subway cars seems foolish

It would be the same design with more improvements from the R211 order, It'll probably be all open gangway as well.

As for the R262s. If it were up to me, I would have given it to Alstom since they own the bombardier R142 design and at the same time they could also rebuild the r142s to R262 specs minus the open gangway. This would make the most sense besides just converting the cars to CBTC. But If Kawasaki gets it then they can rebuild the remaining R142A's to R262 specs minus the open gangway along with the brand new R262s.

I was able to ride the r211 today. I immediately noticed the wider doors and how fast the train is despite the track work on the A and C.

The only issue is that the air conditioning wasn't strong considering that it's a brand new train. The r179's and even the r68's that run on the BD have stronger AC.

That's always the case with the techs, The HVAC also would need tweaks. The R160s were like that too and i rode an R179 last week with mediocre AC

i heard astoria might be getting cbtc very soon though

And what exactly would run on Astoria? The R211s are only going to replace the 46s. There's not much free that could be used to boot the R68s off the Astoria services, and since there is no credible replacement for them in the pipeline, to get rid of them would mean cutting service dramatically.

Astoria CBTC as well as Lexington CBTC has been pushed back in favor of 6th ave and Crosstown CBTC due to those 2 lines having the oldest signals in the system. This is why the R211s will be on 90% of the IND lines, Basically all IND lines have to have tech trains within the next 5-6 years.

It wasn't cold today, it was damn near Hoodie weather so IDK why you was expecting good A/C on a 70 degree day.

No car class I rode today was pumping out cold air, no need to as it wasn't hot outside.

nah it was ass, I rode an R160 on the (E) and (R) and the A/C was fine and worked. The r179 felt muggy as hell.

I don't think that's what he intended to say; he's just saying that homeless people often don't have anywhere better to go other than the subway during harsher weather. A lot of homeless shelters only offer shelter during the nights and will kick people out during the daytime. Just because a homeless person is kicked out of a subway station doesn't mean that person disappears. There's a larger discussion to be had about how as a society we can reduce homeless and better be able to deal with the homeless people there currently are.

I generally tend to find the homeless folks who camp out in the subway tend to be on the worse end of homeless; disproportionately male and often have severe mental and drug issues that make getting help for them more difficult. Homeless people who are older, female, have children, or generally more mentally competent and actively working to get out of their situation tend to have more access to resources (or are just more likely to seek them out). Figuring out how to deal specifically with and ideally help the male drug addict mentally unstable homeless population would be key in reducing the number of homeless folks we see on the subway

But NYC can house these illegals in hotels when they could use those resources to house the homeless and mentally ill.  I'm not liking how the blue cities are pretty much giving the middle finger at people who been homeless or on waiting lists for housing get pushed aside.

Yes people buy the most expensive iPhone for $1000 or the best quality coffee from Starbucks, but people pay because they know they’ll get something good in exchange, in the subways, people receive delays, signal problems, dirty stations, crackheads, $2.75 isn’t worth paying, people don’t receive better service and safety in exchange, that’s the reason why people don’t pay, raising the fare doesn’t solve the problem, MTA is just money grabbing from peoples pockets but they don’t do anything to resolve all their problems, you have understand the people too

This is because no one wants to enforce the law. The DA thinks fare beating is a non issue.

Y’all know too much. Especially for not being employed by the TA. How long til one of you hijack a train. How long until someone gets hurt seriously behind vandalism and trespassing…. We already have more than 45 career surfers…

Nah fam, Most info is public but most people in RTO act like it's not public info when MTA puts it in a PDF. You Guys catch a titty attack when we share our opinions and when y'all are proven wrong, y'all go completely apeshit over non sense.

The reason why the retards do all of the f**kery you posted above because of shitty politicians (DeBlassio, Coumo and etc.) who became to lax on the law. This is why vandalism went up. lets not forget that a good chunk of the vandalism was also done by former employees.

You can't get mad at railfans for knowing shit when people in your own backyard has been doing dumb shit as well.

You also Have Employees selling confidential info on discord (the people are still employed btw)

Maybe if Our city and state government stop being such clowns and actually punish the idiots doing this, all of the above wouldn't be an issue. Also (MTA) needs to stop play favorites when certain employees do f**k shit. Because if i was employed with them and done all of the above, they would have fired my black ass no questions asked.

  12. I will say this, The fare hike doesn't affect me but i find it very dumb they would mention this when they are pushing for congestion pricing. $23 to go south of 60th st, The Anti-Congestion pricing people will have a field day over this. It's very bad optics to say you want to raise the fare granted it's only $0.15 but it makes the (MTA) look bad and dumb at the same time. The Congestion pricing plan was supposed to fix 90% of the issues when it comes to additional funding. If anything they should have waited until AFTER Congestion pricing started to raise the fares.

And yet when I proposed to convert the remaining R143's and R179's to 5 car sets I was laughed out of the room...

Can't really do that unless they order C cars to add into the 4 car consists. It wouldn't surprise me if they did this with the R143s similar to the R142A to R188 conversion. But I doubt it since it would be a waste of money and they can just use the extra 8 car R179s for an extension south of broad st.

As long as these G.O’s are taking place along Queens Blvd over the weekend, I don’t think we will see the (G) return like the good old days. Between 2007-2010 the (G) barely ran to and from Forest Hills except for a handful of times. Even past 2010 how many times has the (E)(F) and (R) ran normal over the weekend? The (M) was even quietly cut after 8:30pm from Forest Hills and service ends to Forest Hills by 10pm so 2 hours were cut. I could be wrong but I think with all the modern tech things have to be inspected more. This weekend there is a G.O’s taking place along Queens Blvd and after this one finishes they immediately jump to doing some other work. The most I think we will see is a slight increase in (R) service.

I can’t see the (J) getting extended because of length the route. 4th Aves issues could be solved if the (R) ran more frequently. Some trains should start and end at South Ferry on the weekend and run to Bay Ridge.

You can't keep on adding extra (R) trains, It's proven that don't work. We are going to have a huge surplus of 8 car trains once the (C) loses it's 8 car trains. Putting them on the (G) would only create another headache hence why i said its better off being 10 cars. They mind as well extend the (J) for rush hours or Create a shuttle like the old <R>

Once the CBTC east GO is done, They shouldn't any excuses. The (G) needs to return to queens on weekends and nights.

You can add all the additional (R) service in the world and it'll still be terrible.

  15. I think the (G) in the future will be 10 cars just for flexibility since it can share the fleet with Jamaica Yard. Having it 8 cars would cause Jamaica to have an Oddball fleet.

If Congestion pricing happens within a year or two, I think the (J) would be extended via 4th ave to 9th ave or Bay ridge (I think Bay ridge would be the best bet) It makes more sense to do that since we will have a surplus of 8 car trains and the Staten Island residents who use the S79 SBS, S53 and etc. They can also Make a shuttle route That could run from Canal St (abandoned side) to Bay Ridge 95th st as well if a (J) extension is too much.

Also the (G) need to return to queens on weekends and nights to help the (R) on weekends.

They've had quite a bit of actual breakdowns lately, not just circumstanal scenarios such as this one.

Yeah, ENY uses the R160s more so i can see why. Haven't been on the (J) in awhile but the last time i was on it the R160s were being used on it more than the R179s.
