    (M) to Broad St

    (R) extra trains between 71 Av and Whitehall St

    (Q) some northbound trains terminate at 57 St

    NEXT

    (M) Trains run via the (E) from West 4 St to 5 Av/53 St

    NEXT

No trains can pass 23 St (B)(D)(F)(M).

Reroute (B)(D)(F)(M). Note that all outer-boro lines must have the same tph of Manhattan-bound trains.

  3. Here's a scenario from page 30:

Because of a police investigation, no express trains can pass Times Square.

Ditmas Av may not be used as a terminal

Prospect Park may not be used as a terminal

Coney Island may not be used as a terminal

    (B) After West 4 St, runs via the (F) to Church Av.

    (F) No trains between Church Av and Coney Island.

    (N) Runs via the (R) to 95 St.

    NEXT

    42 St/Bryant Park impassable

Reroute (B)(D)(F)(M). The (7) is not affected

  6. Water from NY Harbor flooded into the South Ferry area.

    Affected Lines: (1)(R)(N)(4)(5)

    (1) Turns at Rector St using the single switch south of Rector.

    (N)(R) via Bridge

    (3) Extended, all times, to New Lots Av.

    (4) No trains between Fulton St and Utica Av. Extra trains run between Fulton St and 149 St.

    (5) Runs via 7 Av.

    NEXT

Because of a smoke condition, trains from the 4 Av Line may not go between Atlantic Av/Barclays and Dekalb Av. They can, however, terminate at Atlantic Av.

    Reroute: (D)(N)(R)

  7. @Q23: Downtown (C) trains run express from 145 St to Canal St, southbound (B)(D) trains run via the (C) from 145 St to W4 St.

    NEXT

    72 St stations are impassable.

Reroute: (1)(2)(3)(B)(C), and anything else as needed

  8. I refuse to solve something this complicated!:lol::lol:

    Anyway, here's another scenario:

Because of a bomb thread, President St (2)(5) is impassible

Due to a derailment, the South Ferry loop is unusable

Due to a broken rail, the uptown local track at Brooklyn Bridge is unusable

    (5) Runs via 7 Av. Trains run between Dyre Av and South Ferry.

    (6) Trains extended to New Lots Av.

    (3) Trains terminate at Eastern Parkway - Brooklyn Museum to not overload the New Lots line

    (F) After West 4 St, trains run via the (M) and then (J) via peak-direction express, then via the (L) to Canarsie to provide alternative service for the New Lots line.

    (A) Trains run via Culver Local to Coney Island to replace the (F).

    (C) Trains run via Culver Express to 18 Av to replace the (F).

    (S) Rockaway Shuttle extended to Hoyt Schermerhorn St. During this time, the train relays via Court St/Transit Museum station to provide alternative service.

    (Q) Because F service must be reduced to fit on the Myrtle line, (Q) trains are extended to 179 St via 63 St and QBL Express.

    and finally...

    (2) Trains terminate at Nevins St Lower Level (for this emergency change, tracks are installed there).

    NEXT

Because of a water condition, the uptown local track at Rockaway Av is closed.

  9. Since there hasn't been a scenario posted in a while,

    NEXT

The express tracks are impassable at 23 St on the 6 and 7 Av lines. Also impassable is the connection from the 60 St tunnel to Queens Plaza, in both directions.

Affected: (2)(3)(B)(D)(R), and anything else that's necessary

  10. For those of you who don't want to stay up until 2:00 AM solving the above scenario, I'll give another option:

    NEXT:

Trains cannot pass under the East river using the Cranberry St tube or the Rutgers St tube. RULES: no routes can be suspended, or have service frequencies reduced

    (A) No trains between High St and Chambers St. Trains run local in Brooklyn.

    (C) No trains between Chambers St and Euclid Av.

    (F) No trains between York St and 2 Av.

(N)(Q) Trains run via the tunnel to provide extra connecting service at Jay St.

A terrorist threat requires the shutdown of the following stations:

    34 street- penn station (all)

    Times square (all)

    34 street herald square (all)

    Grand central (all)

    Brooklyn bridge city hall

    Canal st (broadway)

    Have fun.

The main goal with this solution was just to get people into Manhattan.

    (A) No trains between 59 St/CC and Chambers St.

    (B) No trains between 125 St and Bleeker-Lafayette.

    (C) No trains between 125 St and Euclid Av.

    (D) No trains between 59 St/CC and Bleeker-Lafayette.

    (E) No trains between WTC and Lex/53.

    (F) No trains between West 4 St and 57 Sts.

    (J) No trains between Essex St and Broad St.

    (N) No trains between 57 St and Whitehall St.

    (Q) No trains between 57 St and Whitehall St.

    (R) No trains between 57 St and 59 St, Brooklyn. Trains run via 63 St.

    (3) No trains between 148 St and Chambers St.

    (4) No trains between 125 St and Fulton St.

    (5) No trains between 180 St and Flatbush Av.

    (6) No trains between 59 St and Brooklyn Bridge. Some southbound trains terminate at 86 St.

    (7) No trains between Queensboro Plaza and Times Sq.

    NEXT

All local tracks are closed at all three Canal St stations.

    Affected: 1, 6, C, E, J, N, Q, R

  11. @ NX Express, can you please specify westbound versus eastbound (since that's where the 53/63 St lines run?

    wb 63 St -> sb 6 Av

    nb 6 Av Lcl->eb 53 St

    (B): Suspended.

(D): Northbound via 8th Avenue, southbound via 8th Avenue to Rutgers Street & Culver Express.

    (E): 57th Street-6th Avenue-Jamaica Center.

(F): Via 53rd Street eastbound to Queens.

    (M): Chambers Street-Metrop. Avenue

Why not run the (E) through via 6 Av, but southbound via 63 St?

  12. (2) Selected southbound and all northbound trains run via Lexington Av between 149 St and Nevins St. Other s-b trains terminate at Chambers St.

    (3) No trains between Chambers St and Wall St. Trains run light from Chambers St and relay via SF loop.

    (J) Ends at Chambers St.

    (Z) Ends at Chambers St.

    (A) Runs via the (F) between Jay St and West 4 St, then local to 34 St, express to 145, and local to 168. If space is limited along the segment where the (A)(F)(M) share tracks, some (A) trains can terminate at Chambers St or High St.

    (C) No trains between High St and 168 St.

    NEXT

6 Av/53 St Junction is flooded. As a result, only two tracks are passable:

    Southbound 63 St -> southbound 6 Av

Northbound 6 Av Local -> northbound 53 St

Reroute: (B)(D)(E)(F)(M) and others if necessary

  13. Also, as a note, the (E) & (F) are 12 TPH, not 15. The 6th & 8th Avenue locals would be too frequent.

The schedule says they're both "every 4-6 minutes". That would imply that at the peak, each is every 4 minutes, or 15tph.

    How would the locals be too frequent? 25tph ((F) + (M)) or 21tph ((C) + (E)) isn't that frequent.

Since, nobody has posted a scenario,

    NEXT

A washout makes the area near Chambers St. (A)(C)(E)(N)(R) trains cannot use City Hall/Chambers St/WTC stations.

  14. ^38 tph through 63 St would work really well...

    (R) No trains between Whitehall St and 59 St.

    (Q) No trains between Prospect Park and 34 St.

    (B) Trains run via the (D) in both directions between West 4 St and Coney Island.

    NEXT

No local trains can pass 59 St/CC.

    Affected: (1)(B)(C)

  15. (3) No trains between Utica Av and New Lots Av.

    (4) Select southbound trains terminate at Bowling Green. No trains between Mosholu Pkwy and Woodlawn.

    (A) No trains between Howard Beach and Broad Channel.

    (F) No trains between 18 Av and Kings Hwy. Every other train runs via the (D) line from West 4 St to Coney Island.

    (L) No trains between B'way Junction and Canarsie.

    NEXT

Because of a smoke condition, Queens Plaza is impassable.

    Reroute: (E)(M)(R)

  16. LOOK AT THE TRACK MAP: Link

The ONLY way to loop through Coney Island is by having it single track for a considerable amount, and COMPLETELY screw over the (D) and (N) trains. Coney Island was built as a terminal; not as a loopty loop for you to have fun with.

If trains from the (Q) to the (N) go via Track 1 (the east-most track) and trains from the (N) to the (Q) go via Track 4 (the west (Q) track) this would work, with the only consequence that (N) and (Q) trains only have one track to terminate (I wouldn't call that 'completely screw over'.

In fact, that's how it worked when the (N) was through-routed via Coney Island for a few weekends in 2006.

    EDIT: Here's a diagram:

    5p1k6b.jpg

  17. Next:

A police issue has knocked out service between Union Square and Grand Central. The switches north of Grand Central CAN be used, but Lexington Avenue line trains can only go into the very north end of the station if needed to get past the switches. The (7) station at Grand Central is also impassible.

At the same time, a derailment at the 5th Avenue Broadway Line station has knocked service out there (57th/7th and 60th/Lex CAN be used) AND a rail condition has knocked out 6th Avenue express service going uptown.

Re-route accordingly, however, the (M) MUST be able to use the 6th Avenue line and can not be re-routed to Chambers (it can be re-routed from where after it leaves 6th Avenue if necessary).

    (4) No trains between Brooklyn Bridge and 42 St.

    (5) Trains run via 7 Av.

    (6) No trains between 86 St and Brooklyn Bridge.

    (7) No trains between Hunterspoint Av and Times Sq. Customers advised to transfer at 74 St or Court Sq for Manhattan-bound service.

    (N) No trains between Times Sq-42 St and Lex Av/59 St. Trains run express in Manhattan.

    (Q) No trains between Times Sq-42 St and Astoria.

    (R) Trains run via 63 St at 25 tph. The last stop on some southbound trains is Canal St or Whitehall St. To save time at 71 Av, trains are not emptied and a T/O enters at the other end of the train before the train goes to relay.

    (B) Uptown trains run via the (C) from West 4 St to 59 St.

    (C) Uptown trains run express from Canal St to 59 St.

    (D) Uptown trains run local in Manhattan.

    (F) Trains run via 53 St to not interfere with the (R) and maximize trains through Court Sq (for transfers from the (7)).

    (M) No trains between 57 St and 71 Av.

    NEXT

Because of a washout, the (A)(C)(E)(1)(2)(3) lines are impassable between 14 St and W4 St (A/C/E) or Houston St (1/2/3). Trains may use the aforementioned stations.

  18. (E) rerouted via 63 street in both direction from W.4 Street to Roosevelt Avenue

    (M) rerouted via 63 street in both directions from 47-50 sts to 36 street, Queens

    (R) rerouted via 63 street in both directions from 57 street Manhattan to 36 street Queens

    (G) EXTENDED to Queens Plaza

    In Addition

Select (M) Trains run between Myrtle Avenue and Metropolitan Avenue

Select (F) trains run via Crosstown (G)

    Next Scenario:

The second Avenue subway is being constructed, and in the process, Grand Street collapses and Houston Street-2 Avenue station collapses, as well as the Lexington Avenue 63 street station collapses.

How would the (E)(F)(M)(R) (50 tph) all fit in the 63 St tunnel? Even with select trains rerouted, this is impossible.

    Your scenario:

    (B) No trains between 34 St and Brighton Beach.

    (D) No trains between Broadway-Lafayette and Atlantic Av/Barclays.

    (F) Trains run via the (E) between Jackson Hts and 5 Av/53 St, and also via the (C) between West 4 St and Jay St.

    (M) No trains between 57 St (F) station and 71 Av.

    (A) Trains run local throughout.

    (C) Suspended.

    (R) Additional trains operate between 71 Av and Whitehall St (these replace M trains in Queens).

    NEXT

138 St/Grand Concourse (4)(5) station is impassable. Reroute the (4)(5) and provide as much alternative service as possible.

  19. NEXT: 53 St and 63 St river crossings (not the entire 53/63 St lines) are unusable.

    (E) No trains between Lex Av/53 St and Court Sq/23 St (this service is to shuttle people to the (7) from the rest of QBL). Runs express in Queens.

    (F) No trains between 57 St and Court Sq/23 St (this service is to shuttle people to the (7) from the rest of QBL). Runs express in Queens.

    (M) No trains between Broad St and 71 Av.

    (Q) Terminates at 57 St, extra trains sent to the (R).

    (R) Service drastically increased with the extra trains running between Queens and either Canal St or Whitehall St.

Under stress from twisting and turning for 50 years, the trusses on the Manhattan Bridge give way, and the lower level only collapses. Reroute the (B)(D)(N)(Q).

(N)(Q) Run via the (R) between 57 St and Dekalb Av.

    (B) No trains between 2 Av and Brighton Beach.

    (D) Trains run in two sections:

    .........205 St to 34 St.

.........34 St to Coney Island, via Broadway Express and tunnel. Runs every 10 minutes. Since this is a long-term change, signs will be clearly and abundantly posted in 34 St station to help passengers.

Additional (D) trains operate between Atlantic Av/Barclays and Coney Island.

    NEXT

The 53 St river crossing is closed. In addition, trains to/from QBL cannot use the 60 St tunnel (Astoria service is unaffected).
