  1. Gotta love all these localized natural disasters you guys come up with. It's like something out of a made for TV SyFy channel movie. :D Not for nothing, but I'm pretty sure an earthquake in New York would utterly demolish the subway system. But whatever. I'm just making an observation.

I was about to say that...

Let me propose my own, with a bit more realism:

Because of a police investigation, the power had to be shut off to the southbound 8 Av Local track. It is not usable between 59 St (including 59 St station) and 34 St - Penn Station (including 34 St station).

    Affected: (B)(C)(E)

  2. This is all times, because construction is happening all day, but FasTrack related work only happens at night...

    Okay, then:

    (J) Makes all stops; no trains between Essex St and Broad St.

    (Z) Suspended, use (J).

    @Latest change:

    (N)(Q) via tunnel.

  3. The foaming in this thread is killing me. 300' trains? Really?

Here's how I would do it:

    (Q) Runs to 57 St/6 Av via 6 Av.

    (N) Assuming the closure would affect the area north of 34 St as well - I would run it in two sections, the first from Brooklyn, via 6 Av to 57 St or Queens Plaza. The second would be Astoria to [the north end of the FASTRACK zone].

    (R) Ends at 10 PM.

  4. NEXT:

In 2018, the eastern-most Williamsburg-bound Nassau track is to be reconnected to the south side of the Manny B, for a new Nassau loop service. The MTA takes this opportunity to fix Chambers St (yeah, 2018 they do this...) and have a FasTrack on the Nassau line.

    Reroute the (J) & (Z).

Montague St can only handle 6 TPH, and the Willy B can only handle 13 TPH. Fix the (M) & (R) as well. The (N) & (Q) are unaffected, for now. (There is a follow up situation.)

(B)(D) Trains stop at 14 and 23 St.

    (J) Rerouted from Essex St, via the (M) to West 4 St.

    (R) Trains run every 10 minutes after 10 PM.

What is there to change for the (M)?

    (Z) Doesn't run at 10PM...

Note that at 10PM, the (J)+(M) is less than 13 tph.

  5. (D) No trains between Atlantic Av and 205 St.

    (B) Extended to 205 St, all times.

    (N) Runs via Brighton Exp to Coney Island, then through Coney Island to 59 St (R).

    (R) No trains between Atlantic/Pacific and Whitehall St.

    NEXT

Because of a mechanical problem, both downtown local tracks are unusable at W4 St.

  6. The switches are set in the favor of 207 St.

    (A) Normal

    (B) to 71 Av via Queens Blvd Local

(C)(D) Local from 59 St to 168 St

    (S) 161 St to 207 St; Some are <S>

Why not just have the (D) run CPW local and the (C) CPW express, so the (A)(C) stay to 168/207 and the (B)(D) to Concourse?

  7. Let me just say that the amount of foaming in these answers is just sickening. There are such simple and obvious reroutes for these scenarios.

    Agreed.

    NEXT:

Due to a train derailment, the Brooklyn bound local (F)(M) track at Broadway-Lafayette is blocked off. Try to be as realistic as possible, and try to make the changes least confusing to the average rider.

    (F) Brooklyn-bound trains run via the (C) from West 4 St to Jay St.

    (M) No trains between Essex St and 71 Av (trains run to Chambers St).

NEXT (let's avoid the foam here):

Because of a switch control failure, the switches in Homeball Alley cannot be switched. This means everything between 125 St and 145 St on CPW.

  8. (E) Trains run via the (F) between West 4 St and Jackson Hts.

    (F) Trains run via the (E) between West 4 St and Jackson Hts.

    (C) Trains run via the (B) between West 4 St and 59 St.

    (M) Trains run via the (E) between West 4 St and 5 Av / 53 St.

    Summary:

    8 Av Local: 23 tph (F)(M)

    6 Av Local @ W4 St: 21 tph (C)(E)

    6 Av Exp: 22 tph (B)(C)(D)

    NEXT

Due to a control tower failure, the switches at 71 Av cannot be moved. This prevents 71 Av from being used as a terminus.

  9. Realism FTW...

    (B) No trains between 2 Av and Brighton Beach.

    (D) Trains split at 34 St / Herald Sq and run in two sections:

......... 71 Av to Coney Island via the (R) in Manhattan and Queens

    ......... 205 St to 34 St.

    (N)(Q) via tunnel

    (R) Reverted to shuttle.

    NEXT

Because of a control tower failure, no switch along 8 Av between 14 and 72 St can be moved. They can be set once, but not moved after that.

  10. Due to a Major (MTA) project, the entire Bronx EL (2)(5) is being demolished and replaced. Reroute the (2)(5), and anything else you want long term.

    (2) No trains between 241 St and 3 Av/149 St. The last stop on some northbound trains is 148 St - Lenox Term.

    (5) Trains rerouted to the (4) line. Northbound trains terminate at 149 St, 167 St, Burnside Av, Kingsbridge Rd, or Bedford Pk Bl.

    (A) Trains stop at 155 and 163 St.

    (B) Extended to Bedford Pk Bl middays.

    (C) Rerouted to Bedford Pk Bl all times except nights.

    NEXT

Because of a structural failure, the express tracks at 34 St - Herald Sq are impassable. In addition, the local tracks can only accommodate 15 tph (per track).

  11. This is interesting...

Due to switch maintenance at the Astoria-Ditmars Boulevard Station, some uptown N.gif and Q.gif trains are terminating at the Queens Plaza Station, 57th Street-7th Avenue Station or the 42nd Street-Times Square Station.

Please expect delays in N.gif and Q.gif train service at this time.

  12. An Earthquake causes the (A)(C) tunnel under the river to collapse. The (R) tunnel also collapses too. Go.

    (A) Trains run via the (F) in both directions between W4 St and Jay St.

    (C) No trains between Chambers St and Euclid Av.

    (M) To provide space for the (A), trains run in two sections:

......... 71 Av to Whitehall St.

......... Broad St to Met Av.

Transfer between sections at Canal St.

    (Q) To minimize switching delays, trains run local on Broadway.

    (R) Trains run via the bridge.

    NEXT

The Clark St and Cranberry St tubes are closed due to a water condition.

  13. The express tracks on the 8th Avenue/CPW line inside 59th Street-Columbus Circle station can't be used due to a rail condition.

    (A) Trains run local in Manhattan.

    (C) No trains between Chambers and 168 St.

    (D) Trains stop at the local track at 59 St.

    NEXT

Because of a police investigation, no express trains can pass Times Square.

    Affected: (N)(Q)(2)(3)

    PS Remember that (1)+(2)+(3) > 30 tph.

  14. (A) No trains between 34 St and 59 St.

    (B) Suspended

    (C) No trains between Chambers and 168 St.

    (D) No trains between 59 St and Coney Island.

    (E) Trains run via the (F) between W4 St and Coney Island in both directions. Transfer across the platform at Broadway-Lafayette to continue your trip.

    (F) Trains run via the (B) or (D) (alternate trains) between W4 St and Brooklyn. Transfer across the platform at Broadway-Lafayette to continue your trip.

    NEXT

No express trains can pass Atlantic Avenue. Affected: (4)(5)(D)(N).

  15. That's more than one platform, you know...

    (4) No trains between Brooklyn Bridge and 86 St. Some northbound trains terminate at Wall St and use the diamond, others terminate at Bowling Green and wrong-rail via the loop.

    (5) Trains run via the (2) in both directions in Manhattan.

    (6) No trains south of 59 St. The last stop on some southbound trains is 86 St.

    (7) No trains south of Hunterspoint Av.

    (S) Suspended.

    NEXT

Because of a structural failure, all express tracks are unusable at W4 St. The local tracks are not affected.
