  1. (2) No trains between Rector St and Wall St.

    (3) Suspended

    (4) No trains between 149 St and Wall St. Extended to New Lots.

    (5) Dyre Shuttle

    (D) Additional trains operate between Atlantic Av and 161 St.

    NEXT

The express tracks are closed at 72 St (1)(2)(3) and 72 St (B)(C).

    Affected: (A)(D)(2)(3)

  2. You're lucky, I was rerouted to the Sea Beach two days ago because of a code failure on the west end (the entire west end from 9Av-62nd down in both directions). I didn't get to 40 at all, but 160s commonly enter 59th at 41.

A bit OT, but what's a code failure?

  3. Actually, the ratio of (A)'s to (C)'s should be 3-1, so that's normal...

It can get very frustrating though.

    1st (A): okay I missed a (C), it's fair for an A to pass now.

    ... a few minutes later...

    2nd (A): these (C) s must really be rare...

    ...a few minutes later...

3rd (A): I could have walked to the next express stop by now, but I know that as soon as I leave the station to walk the train will come. (where is the  smiley?)

  4. (B) normal on 6th Avenue and then operates via the (F) to Coney Island (express in both directions to/from Church Avenue and peak direction express to/from Avenue X) before going through and continuing to Prospect Park, Brooklyn via regular route in a loop.

    (Q) is reduced to 300' trains and runs from Coney Island-Botanic Garden (S) station, terminating on the Prospect Park-bound platform.

    (S) runs as a single, two-car train between Franklin Avenue and Botanic Garden, terminating on the Franklin Avenue-bound platform at Botanic Garden.

Re:(B): a train can't go from the (F) to the (B)(Q). Check a track map.

Re:(Q) Why do you keep suggesting this? A 300' train won't fit into Botanic Garden station anyway.

Uptown local tracks impassable at all 23 St stations in Manhattan.

There is structural failure on the Jerome Av EL between 161 St and Woodlawn. This structural failure has also caused the 125 St, 138 St, and 149 St to lose power.

    149 St (4)<4>(5)

    NOTE

    (2) Trains can stop at 149 St

    (C) Runs to Bedford Park Blvd.

    (D) Rush hour express service suspended.

    (D) Additional trains operate between 205 St and 2 Av.

    (3) Rerouted, after 135 St, to 149 St. Terminates at 149 St/3 Av and relays via Jackson Av middle track.

    (4) No trains north of 86 St. At 86 St, a T/O will board at the other end of the train to quicken relays.

    (5) Runs via the (2) in Manhattan.

    (6) No trains between 138 and 86 St. At 86 St, a T/O will board at the other end of the train to quicken relays.

    (J) Jamaica Center to Brighton Beach (Nassau Express/Brighton Local)

WHY? WHY? You'll confuse too many people. And where are the extra R160 4-car sets going to come from?

  6. That looks fun...

    (B) After West 4 St, trains run via the (F) to Church Av.

    (D) After West 4 St, trains run via the (F) to Coney Island, then through to Atlantic Av/Barclays.

    (N) No trains between Queensboro Plaza and 36 St.

    (Q) No trains between Prospect Park and Ditmars Bl.

    (R) No trains between Jay St-Metrotech and Whitehall St. Trains run between Manhattan and Queens via 63 St. Additional trains run between 59 St/Lex and Whitehall St.

(J)(Z) No service between Marcy Av and Essex St.

    (L) No service west of Bedford Av.

    (M) Shuttle

    NEXT

Washout at 23 St. (4)(5)(6)(N)(Q)(R) cannot pass the area.

  7. Remember that the (E) is running via the (F) on 6 Av, so the (E)(F)(M) would not fit there.

If the (M) runs via 8 Av (as stated), it does not interfere with the (E), nor the (B)(D). The next best alternative would be to cut it to Broad St and increase (R) service north of Whitehall (that would probably be better, as a matter of fact), but Wallyhorse wanted to keep the (M) in Midtown.

  8. (A) Downtown trains run via the (D), then (F), between 59 St and West 4 St.

    (C) No trains between 34 St-Penn Station and 168 St.

    (M) No trains between Broad St and 71 Av. Trains in Queens become ®s between Whitehall St and 71 Av.

    Solution to my problem:

(B)(D) Trains run via Broadway Express and 63 St, then via the (F) to 179 St.

    (D) Shuttle trains run between 205 St and World Trade Center.

    (E) Trains run via 63 St and Broadway Express to Pacific St.

    (F) No trains between 42 St-Bryant Park and 179 St. Use the (B)(D)(E) and transfer at 34 St for alternative service.

    (M) No trains between 71 Av and West 4 St.

(N)(Q) Trains run via the (R) between Dekalb Av and 57 St in both directions.

    NEXT

Because of a washout, the 53 St tunnel is unusable between 23 St-Court Sq and 5 Av, inclusive.

  9. The 59 street Columbus Circle Station is closed on the southbound side, and no trains can pass through. Only the 2 current northbound tracks can be used, but all trains have to go through in both directions

I'm assuming you don't mean the (1) station, but only the IND stop...

    So:

    (A) Trains run local in Manhattan, but downtown trains skip 50 St.

    (B) No trains between 42 St - Bryant Park (downtown express track) and the Bronx.

    (C) No trains north of Chambers St.

    (D) Uptown trains run via the (C) from West 4 St to 145 St. Downtown trains run local on CPW.

    Downtown service:

After 72 St, trains switch over to the uptown express track and stop at 59 St. Then:

    (A) trains continue wrong-railing on the uptown express track to 34 St, after which they switch to the normal track and continue service.

    (D) trains wrong-rail on the uptown (D) track (unused by uptown trains) to 42 St, and then switch to normal service toward Brooklyn.

I chose to have the (A)(D) go through and cut the (B)(C) instead of having each line run some ridiculous tph (as during wrong railing, a manual block system would probably be used).

    NEXT

Because of a mechanical problem, 6 Av/53 St Junction is impassable.

    Affected: (B)(D)(F)(M)(E)

  10. (B) Trains run via the (F) between W 4 St and Church Av.

    (D) Trains run via the (F) between W 4 St and Coney Island, then via the (D) to 36 St.

    (F) Extended, from Coney Island, via the (N) to 59 St.

    (G) No trains south of Hoyt St.

    (M) No service between Broad St (J) and 71 Av.

    (N) No trains between 34 St-Herald Sq and Coney Island.

    (Q) No trains between Prospect Park and Brighton Beach. Trains run via the tunnel.

    (R) No trains between Whitehall St and 59 St, Brooklyn.

    Alternatives:

WEST END - take the (D), running on the (F) line via Coney Island.

SEA BEACH- take the (F), via Coney Island. Transfer at 34 St-Herald Sq or Jay St (from the Q).

BRIGHTON - take the (B)(D)(F) making nearby stops on Culver or transfer at Coney Island for the shuttle to Brighton Beach.

BAY RIDGE - take the (F) via Coney Island and transfer to the (R) shuttle. Transfer to the (F) at 34 St or Jay St (from the Q).

    NEXT

Because of a washout at 23 St & Lex, the (4)(5)(6) cannot pass 23 St. As this is a long-term change, provide extra alternate service where possible.

  11. (E) Runs via 6 Av and 63 St.

    (F) Runs via Queens Bl local and Crosstown. Terminates at 71 Av.

    (M) Runs via 63 St and QBL Express.

    (R) Runs via 63 St and QBL Express.

    NEXT

Because of a police investigation, the uptown platform at 47-50 Sts is closed and impassable.

  12. Okay, let me try to solve my own and yours.

    Mine:

(B)(D) After 47/50 Sts, trains run via 63 St and then the (E) to Queens.

    (C) Trains run express in Manhattan south of 145 St.

    (E) Trains run between 205 St and World Trade Center, via local.

    (F) Trains run via 53 St.

    (J) Extended to 95 St, replacing the (R).

    (N) Trains run via the (D) from Atlantic Av-Barclays to 47/50 Sts St, then via 63 St and the (M) to 71 Av.

    (Q) No trains between Times Square-42 St and Astoria. Trains run via the tunnel.

    (R) Suspended

    Summary

    B/D replace E in Queens.

E replaces B/D on CPW and in the Bronx

    N replaces R on QBL

    J replaces R in Brooklyn

    =======================

    Your puzzle now:

(2)(3) No trains between Wall St and Eastern Parkway.

(4)(5) No trains between Bowling Green and Nevins St. If 30tph can reverse at City Hall Loop, they can at Bowling Green.

    =======================

    NEXT

Washout. 6 Av is closed at 23 St, and, because of a police investigation, the 8 Av Express tracks are closed at 23 St. Other tracks not affected.

  13. (B)(D) via 8 Avenue Local

    (E) via 6 Avenue Express (switches to/from Express) at W.4 Street and 42 street

    (F) select via 6 Avenue Express and Express on West End while others on Crosstown. Half of current F levels while run on 6 Avenue

    (M) Every other train past Myrtle Avenue

(N)(Q) Service North of 42 street Suspended

    (R) via 6 Avenue Local and select via Express

How would the (B)(D) go 8 Av to Manhattan Bridge? And WHY would you send the (E) express, if it has to be on the local at West 4 St and 42 St anyway?

    Re:threxx

"1. Did you not read it properly? I said the (D) would go southbound via the (A) & (F), it's not using the bridge...

    2. The (B) would terminate on the 7th Avenue tracks using the switches there. Some (F) trains also use 53rd Street to alleviate crowding. "

    What 7 Avenue tracks? At 21 St-Queensbridge?

And also, what woulds serve the southbound (D)?
