trainfan22 Posted March 1, 2008 Share #26 Posted March 1, 2008 You don't like it from a passenger's view? You're the only passenger who doesn't like it then. Do you even know every passeenger that rides the R46? There are other railfans who dislike the R46s other than error.

Brighton Local Posted March 2, 2008 Share #28 Posted March 2, 2008 I enjoy the ride on an R46. Smooth ride, sometimes a surprise chime lol, and the doors seem to open and close so gentle.
R32 3348 Posted March 2, 2008 Share #29 Posted March 2, 2008 how do you know every single person that steps foot in an R46 likes it? Alright, I was in a bad mood when I was making that post. But sometimes you act like everyone loves the R32, it is to Excellent, etc etc (I don't even know why you always capitalize the E in excellent either...). NJTransitFan Posted March 3, 2008 Share #31 Posted March 3, 2008 how do you know every single person that steps foot in an R46 likes it? I also do not like the R46. To much of a shakey ride with bad braking.

TSOH Posted March 3, 2008 Share #33 Posted March 3, 2008 I've been seeing alot of loose panels on the R46 R trains and the colors on some seats look like they got washed off with something.
INDman Posted March 4, 2008 Share #34 Posted March 4, 2008 I have always thought that the R46 seemed to have a warmer interior then the R160's. They seem much colder like the R68's. Also I like the body style of the R46 with all rounded edges, I only wish I ould get to operate an R46 on the old express.
Harry Posted March 4, 2008 Share #35 Posted March 4, 2008 I only wish I ould get to operate an R46 on the old express. All I ever wanted to do as a kid was to just ride the express. Everytime I saw it pull into Herald Square station I would just stare at it and watch the conductors step on and off the trains.
trainfan22 Posted March 4, 2008 Share #36 Posted March 4, 2008 I have always thought that the R46 seemed to have a warmer interior then the R160's.The R46s DO have a warmer interior than the R160s.The heat on the R160s is not strong enough. Robert Bosco Posted March 5, 2008 Author Share #37 Posted March 5, 2008 The R46s DO have a warmer interior than the R160s.The heat on the R160s is not strong enough. Actually, it feels as if the A/C is always on, even in the winter.
Brighton Local Posted March 5, 2008 Share #38 Posted March 5, 2008 I also feel the R46 has a 'warmer' interior, but not temperature wise. Its more of a look that says, " come inside, take a seat", lean your head on the window and sleep:D. The moral is, the R46 seems like one of the more 'welcoming' trains in the system. INDman Posted March 5, 2008 Share #39 Posted March 5, 2008 Thanks Brighton, thats what I ment to say. The R46 always makes me want to come in and relax. The R160's on the other hand make me want to take a seat and "wait for the doctor to see me". The feel doctors office waiting room cold.
Brighton Local Posted March 5, 2008 Share #40 Posted March 5, 2008 Thanks Brighton, thats what I meant to say. The R46 always makes me want to come in and relax. The R160's on the other hand make me want to take a seat and "wait for the doctor to see me". The feel doctors office waiting room cold. No problem. Haha! I love your analogy of the 160s! A doctors office! Next! Next! Dude thats funny:D:p
trainfan22 Posted March 5, 2008 Share #41 Posted March 5, 2008 Actually, it feels as if the A/C is always on, even in the winter. Yeah i notice that it does feel like the A/C is on.The older trains have better A/C heat than this high tech junk that is takeing over the system... DOB2RTO Posted March 5, 2008 Share #42 Posted March 5, 2008 Actually, it feels as if the A/C is always on, even in the winter. Heat in the summer, and A/C in the winter is the way. The trainers even tell new employees that. Most of the time everything works fine though.
ipaclansite Posted March 5, 2008 Share #43 Posted March 5, 2008 Heh I'd have to say I can tell you all the feelings I get when I ride these trains The R46's do feel "warm and welcoming" The R160's still feel quite new, and sometimes futuristic. It is very bright in there though, while the R46's have more of a soft white color. The R46's with those seats at the window, also give you a better view, if your looking out the window, so you can sit there, sleep, or check out the view, if your going elevated anyway When the train is empty, and you have the car all to yourself, you just wanna sit back and relax, you dont really get that feeling when you ride the R160. R32 3348 Posted March 5, 2008 Share #44 Posted March 5, 2008 Isn't the climate control on the NTTs automatic anddepends on the indoor car temperature to begin with?
ipaclansite Posted March 5, 2008 Share #45 Posted March 5, 2008 I dont know, but on days when its humid it gets sticky in there... As for everything else, I was talking about the lighting inside giving the train its "warm" feeling. Like the soft white light in R46's and the strikingly bright lights inside the R160's
sebbieprops Posted March 9, 2008 Share #46 Posted March 9, 2008 Actually, I'd say that I like the R46 and the R160 about equally.
