Ideas for fantasy transit routes such as the San Andreas (SATA)and others

Okay, so I made up this transit agency based off the video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. It would operate buses and commuter railroads (Brown Streak Railroad). The setup of the agency is a crossover of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and New Jersey Transit. This is because the livery of the SATA bus fleet is identical to that of the MTA, while the service area is, of course, throughout the fictional state of San Andreas (except for Flint County and Whetstone), just like NJT serves the entire state of New Jersey. I created this in my head for a few years now.

Here's how I structured the SATA bus route numbers by region/service:

  • 1-99: Los Santos local/limited-stop service.
  • 100s: Red County local/limited-stop service.
  • 200s: San Fierro local/limited-stop service.
  • 300s: Desert Region (Bone County/Tierra Robada) local/limited-stop service.
  • 400s: Las Venturas local/limited-stop service.
  • 500s: Express service.

Tell me what you guys think!

Pretty cool! I'm a big fan of fictional TAs. :D

When I had SA I always used to drive one of the two buses in the game from Las Ventras to San Ferro, Since I had the buses in my airplane garage (The one in the desert) I would just drive to one of the Casino's on The Strip and then hop on the highway to San ferro, and terminate at the parking area in front of the train station.

My route would have fallen under the "500" category on your bus route structure.

LMAO at this !! in a good way....

GTA San Andreas is my isht... I preferably fux w/ Ocean Docks & Las Venturas, since you can rack up a lot of ammo by killing a lot of ppl. in those particular areas...... There's another little area in San Fierro, but to be honest, I don't care for san fierro - best part is driving on the bridge to get there.....

I remember I would jack the bus & drive around in it like CJ (carl johnson; the main character) was part of a fictional transportation agency.... also remember jackin the train & havin it go nonstop from los santos while makin it reach max speed - most the time, it would always derail somewhere around the mountains though.... lol

- anyway, here's a blank road map of the areas of the game: http://myepsilon.org/maps/gtasa_aerial_map.jpg

- and a map with the names of the areas listed: http://ian-albert.com/games/grand_theft_auto_san_andreas_maps/gtasa-geographic-1.0.jpg

LMAO!!!! It's amazing C.J. doesn't even get wasted in the derailment.

Also, SATA uses the Sobell Rail Yards in Las Venturas to store and overhaul its trains.

Awesome idea Kmilton100! I remember driving those two MCIs in the game! Too bad they didn't have anymore buses... I also love operating those locomotives especially on that red rail bridge that connects Tierra Robada/Bone county with San Fierro. I used to fly on that bridge to the point the locos would start to shake.

Yup.... especially w/ the vibrating controller, it only enhanced the experience....

You know, I never could figure that out.....

Someone can launch a RPG while you're driving around in a car or w/e, and you're done.....

But a whole entire train derails & CJ just gets dropped off at a random point along the tracks & only takes like 1/3rd to 1/2 damage or so (if the health bar is full, that is)

  • 2 weeks later...

Here are some of the SATA bus routes I've created:

#60: Local service operates between East Los Santos and Rodeo.

#140: Local service operates between Montgomery and Dillimore.

#214: Local service operates between Calton Heights and Hashbury.

#331: Local service operates between Fort Carson and Las Payasadas.

#417: Local service operates between Blackfield and Prickle Pine.

#510: Express service operates between Palomino Creek and Downtown Los Santos.

What do you guys think?

What's even stranger is that after the train derails, they can be 'pushed' like it's made of air. But as for minimal damage in the train as it derails, it kinda makes sense as that thing is stronger than a tank. Even the tank after a while overheats or can no longer take the gun fire from a police chopper. Train is the strongest vehicle in the game, long as it stays on the track of course.

Personally, my favs for exploring are Las Venturas, San Fiero, and then Los Santos. I usually initiate all the gang wars around the same day so I can just take over the whole place and walk freely without having to worry about getting shot at. Obviously it sucked to know if you try to take over everything the 1st time, it is all for nothing. That's why when I redid the whole game, I just took over whatever i needed.

I can't believe I'm commenting on fictional routes, but since I know the game, I'll try my hand at it....

Kmilton, I'll get back to you in a few regarding the other ideas.... but just skimming through them w/o looking at a map, I don't know about a route b/w rodeo & e. los santos.... the uppity folks in rodeo might b*tch about the "riff raff" (the hispanic gangs that run) in e. los santos though..... that would be like a route going from todt hill to perth amboy..... haha....

a route b/w palomino creek & downtown though sounds good & makes sense.....

I got a route for you....

- how about a route b/w Market station & ocean docks.... it would be like the NJT #40 b/w Nwk-Penn & port newark

or...

- a route b/w Rodeo & financial district in san fierro....

LMAO !.... that's true about the train going from this indestructable object in the game to the flimsiest object after a derailment....... You don't know how many RPG's I tried firing at the train tryna blow it up, when I first started playing GTA san andreas.....

police helicopters aint stand a chance against me - with one shot I would take those things down, even when they're higher up in the air & you're not in pursuit..... the tanks I would only like driving around in to trample cars & turn pedestrians into mush.... lol......

Lol @B35's "riff-raff" comment. It's true though. They would start bitching.

@Kmilton100: I have another suggestion for a bus route:

Have a "loop route" From Las Venturas Airport to major casinos and back via the Las Venturas strip. This route would be aimed for tourists.

Another suggestion is to have a route in LS to run from Glen park to Santa Maria beach (summers only)

@b35, yeah, I even took the hydra and fired for like a whole minute and nothing ever happened. When the train derailed, i spawned (used a cheat code) a hydra to fire and the cars flew away like nothing. Just insanity. I guess I see why they didn't want ppl to jack a subway in GTA 4, that would easily kill any realism :)

Not a bad idea, NYCtrainfan01! I would number the Las Venturas loop route as the #482, dubbed the "Casino-Airport Loop". The Glen Park-Santa Maria Beach summer only-route is a great idea as well. I would number it somewhere in the 80s or 90s. Let's just hope SATA doesn't cut these routes if it ever faces a budget crisis. LOL!!!

The Orion VII FG and NG buses are hybrid-electric powered. I forgot to put that information in there.

Should articulated buses operate in Las Venturas?

In most parts of Las Venturas, there are irregular street patterns, notably in Redsands West. For example, the #408 route operates between Whitewood Estates and Redsands East, while the #417 route operates between Greenglass College in Blackfield and Yellow Bell Station of the SATA rail system in Prickle Pine. Both routes operate via Redsands West. They are also articulated routes, of course, as they are based out of Blackfield Depot, the one and only all-articulated bus depot in the SATA bus system. Those two routes may operate slower than normal because of the number of turns to be made along their routes. Then again, there's the #412, the busiest route in Las Venturas, which operates between Rockshore West and Roca Escalante via the Las Venturas Strip, a major thoroughfare in the city. If 40-foot buses from Pilgrim Depot were used on the #412 route, they would all be crowded with riders, which would then mean that more buses would be needed to run on the route to ease crowding. This would put a burden on other bus routes based from Pilgrim Depot because there could be a shortage of buses at the depot. This would result in other routes operating less frequent than normal, which would cause overcrowding. Therefore, articulated buses, and only articulated buses, are needed for operation on the #412 route. Anyway, what do you guys think about this?

In my mind I always thought about a 412 type type route in LV lol, sometimes I drove that route in the game with the newer MCI. I would just make a U turn at the highway and at the other end of the route terminate at the building with the driveway in front of it where the Strip ends.

But to answer the question, yea 412 should use Artics only.

I wish Rockstar put one transit bus and one MCI OTR type bus in the game rather than a MC12 and a bus that's similar to a modern day MCI. When I played that game I always drove Greyhound type routes (Los Santos - San Ferro and San ferro - LV)

Felt weird driving local routes with coach buses. Well in the city at least, I had a route that didn't leave the desert except to end in that little town near the Golden Gate Bridge, would have sent it into San ferro but that Bridge puts you no where near the CBD plus it would have made the running time really long, I got bored after one round trip.

LOL!!! I can imagine myself riding an MCI D4500 express bus through the desert, even though cacti and ghost towns would be all I see.

- already spoke on the 60 & the 510....

- the 140 I would actually extend to palomino creek... have a route serving all of upper red county

(in other words, 140: Dillimore - Palomino Creek..... serving dillimore, blueberry, montgomery, & palomino creek)

- 214 is good

- 331 I can agree with; a route going from both ends of bone county

- 417, depends how you'd route it.... if you have it serving greenglass college & yellow bell station, en route to residential prickle pine, then the route could maintain a good amt. of ridership....

Now you got me wantin to make up fictional routes !!

gotta love this guy's breakdown & analysis of the street/neighborhood layouts.....

As for running artics in las venturas, I would only have one artic route.... It would be a route going from Yellow Bell station to Linden station via "The Strip"....

(I'm laughing to myself as I'm typing all this btw)
