TheNewYorkElevated Posted October 26, 2014 Share #1 Posted October 26, 2014 As most you here know, there are numerous blocked and closed off portals along the IND subway system (116th Street and 103rd Street on the and to name a few). And that me have a question to ask you guys. Should the abandoned IND portals have a second chance to serve passengers again? Post in your thoughts and ideas on this. Quill Depot Posted October 26, 2014 Share #2 Posted October 26, 2014 If stations are as unused as those there is no use
Tokkemon Posted October 26, 2014 Share #3 Posted October 26, 2014 Only if passenger numbers demand it.
bobtehpanda Posted October 26, 2014 Share #4 Posted October 26, 2014 I don't think "portals" is the word you're looking for here.
B3 Via Av U Posted October 26, 2014 Share #5 Posted October 26, 2014 I don't think "portals" is the word you're looking for here. Entrances/exits are what I think he's aiming for.
T to Dyre Avenue Posted October 27, 2014 Share #6 Posted October 27, 2014 That has to be it, because there are definitely no abandoned rail tunnel entrances to the IND at 116th and 103rd streets. There would have been no purpose in building them there.
Kamen Rider Posted October 27, 2014 Share #7 Posted October 27, 2014 Last time I checked, portals in subway parlance are the transition points between trains running underground and trains on Els, embankments and surface lines. There are only 4 passenger carrying portals on the IND; Carroll street, 4th ave, Grant ave and Culver.
Union Tpke Posted October 27, 2014 Share #8 Posted October 27, 2014 About entrances, only if there is an increase in passengers and i there is overcrowding. Otherwise no.
lupojohn Posted October 28, 2014 Share #9 Posted October 28, 2014 72nd Street has very visible unused stairs. I don't see the harm in it.
