Department of Subways - Proposals/Ideas

Going back on the Queens Bypass, here's what I think the service pattern should be:

(F) via Queens Boulevard Express

(E) via Queens Boulevard Express with some rush hour trains terminating at Jackson Heights.

(R) via Queens Boulevard Local

(V) via Queens Bypass to Forest Hills-71st Avenue, then local to 63rd St Rego Park (which is now an express station), then via Rockaway Beach Branch to Rockaway Park- B 116th Street.

<V> Rush Hours only in the Peak Direction, trains run express along the Rockaway Beach line.

I drew up track maps that would show my plan.

Yes. Also you'd be denying RBB riders a one seat ride to Midtown, thereby eliminating any gains from the route.

The Rock Park (S) doesn't go to Midtown right now as it is. The (A) only serves the Rock Park branch five times during rush hours, so this would actually be an improvement (considering the (H) is the actual designation of the Rock Park (S)).

In the purest sense, you're right. But if the RBB is rebuilt, I still think it would not only be easiest but best to extend either the (M) or (R) down there, which also solves the fumingation problem at 71st Ave.

If you can give me a case as to why your plan is better, I'm all ears, but until then, the above seems best.

My plan isn't any better unless the QBL local tracks can fit more trains per hour west of 63 Dr, and the 2 Av Subway is built (so the (H) can be extended down 2 Av via QBL local).

I would do it, but with the (W) becoming the full-time line between Whitehall and Rockaway Park and the (R) moved back to Astoria 24/7 (with the (N) being the part-time line to Astoria and to 96th/2nd the rest of the time).

While I definitely like your idea of running a service between the Flushing Line and Jamaica, I do have some questions about the exact location of the stations. Because you don't list any cross streets at each station, it's not so easy to figure out how the 9 will get from 111th St to the Jamaica Bus Terminal. This is probably one of those instances where making a map would really help show the connection. In fact, depending on which streets the 9 runs along, you might not even need stations at all the locations you listed (such as Jewel Ave followed by 73rd Ave, because Jewel and 73rd are very close to each other). It would be a tight squeeze to run three local services on QBL, even though the local tracks are not maxed out. Still agree the Rockaway Beach service should be a rerouted (M) or (R) train.

I still don't see the logic behind this, sorry. Whitehall can only turn a few (7?) tph, and lower manhattan riders already have access via the (A) line, which will always be faster than taking the QBL local there. Furthermore, if you end the (R) at Astoria, you're eliminating direct access to a yard, complicating operations and clogging the West End line with OOS (R) trains. Extending the (M) doesn't involve any yard swapping, and provides the Rockaways with more frequent service. The only drawback I see with the (M) extension is that one doesn't have easy access to the 7th avenue lines. I'd say because the area is straddled with the 6th and 8th avenue lines, it's OK.

I have made my mind on what my REAL fantasy subway should be. Take a look (in Brand New Subway) by downloading my file from this link: https://www.mediafire.com/folder/nw6k6968t176c/The_Pringle5095_Fantasy_Subway!.Should I make a service guide to go with this?

How many people are going to know what to do with your JSON file?

EDIT: Code removed due to JavaScript prettyfier crashing Firefox

Dear God please don't EVER post an entire JSON file again. My hands hurt from all the scrolling.

And just upload the JSON to the brand new subway website. It's pretty easy.

I had trouble getting the post edited until I disabled JavaScript. Thankfully, some websites are still NoScript-friendly.

The load button on the bottom right corner. Click, choose the file, and you're all set.

But then how would you be able to see a map of it without a download?

The problem is, politically you may have to have any train on the RBB serve lower Manhattan as well (even with the (A) going that way), which is why I have the (W) doing that with the (R) going back to Astoria (and any (R) trains on yard runs going in service to/from Coney Island).  You could have it where some (W) trains run to/from 9th Avenue.if turning trains at Whitehall is an issue.  That to me means most likely a Broadway Line train over the (M), and doing with the (W) from Whitehall (and some from 9th Avenue) since the (R) would be too long a run.

Why is that? There’s no precedent set to make such a claim. <_<

Because I'm sure there will be those who want any new line that serves Howard Beach (closest station to the Airport) and the Casino at Aqueduct to serve lower Manhattan that some still consider to be "The Financial District" even if we know better.

Both those stations have the (A). Riders North of ozone park can transfer to the (E) or (R), or ride south and take the (A). If they want more Lower Manhattan access, they can push for an extension of the (C) to OP and a devotion of the (A) to Rockaway terminals.
