MTR Admiralty 4 Posted October 29, 2008 Share #2 Posted October 29, 2008 Video a bit old, but cool! Sounds like they are using Siemens propulsion. Honestly, I really want to know when they will show up on the system. Better get some rides on the PATH (best RFWs) before they are retired. Cait Sith 9,392 Posted October 29, 2008 Share #4 Posted October 29, 2008 Kawasaki builds these cars. I would be so damn excited if these have propulsion like the new Boston Blue Line Cars!

metsfan 2 Posted October 30, 2008 Share #7 Posted October 30, 2008 Looks too much like a R160. They are nothing alike aside from the metal used for the skin. You should ride PATH some time if you have not. All of the stuff is different. - A

metsfan 2 Posted October 31, 2008 Share #9 Posted October 31, 2008 They are wider, shorter in length, have different control systems and have overall different dimensions completely from subway cars, don't let the weird angles and such on that video trick your eyes. They are simply modern PATH cars and the front end of the cab car is similar-ish because most new metro/subway designs are using it. They have more in common with a railroad EMU car vs subway/metro. That being said, yes at a quick glance they might look similar, but if you see them up close you will notice they are totally different. LTA1992 1,355 Posted February 26, 2009 Share #10 Posted February 26, 2009 Looks too much like a R160. Well, they did say the PA5 Is basically an updated R142.

metsfan 2 Posted February 27, 2009 Share #14 Posted February 27, 2009 Are the front full width cab design like on the R 142'S AND 160'S I guess they'll have to do away with passing through cars when train is stationary then unless the cabs are similar to LIRR's. Dunno how that's going to go over with frequent riders. - A
kaback9 0 Posted February 27, 2009 Share #15 Posted February 27, 2009 Yup full width cabs no more railfan window
metsfan 2 Posted February 27, 2009 Share #16 Posted February 27, 2009 That is so lame. I usually don't hold on to anything anymore when i'm riding a train for several reasons, i usually look to the next car to see if i need to grab hold real quick or position myself for a turn...... but not being able to see the platform coming up to get ready is going to SUCK. - A
kaback9 0 Posted February 27, 2009 Share #17 Posted February 27, 2009 Yup its sad but I can see why they would want one. It is I guess from an FRA standpoint safer.
metsfan 2 Posted February 27, 2009 Share #18 Posted February 27, 2009 Yup its sad but I can see why they would want one. It is I guess from an FRA standpoint safer. Plus you can put more structure there, making the whole car stronger. Basically you're allowing the end to have one solid corner vs the side and then a window. - A

MTR Admiralty 4 Posted February 27, 2009 Share #25 Posted February 27, 2009 It is official, the PA5s are in service on the Newark Line. Provided previously by kaback: http://www.subchat.com/read.asp?Id=749550 I prefer the lighting on those cars than the NTTs on the NYCS.
