Lawrence St Posted November 17, 2021 Share #2 Posted November 17, 2021 But why do they need all the cars? At least save 8001 for the museum.
Bill from Maspeth Posted November 17, 2021 Author Share #3 Posted November 17, 2021 Just now, Bill from Maspeth said: Brookville repurposing NYCT passenger cars to pump train specialty vehicles for emergency use in underground subway system | Mass Transit (masstransitmag.com) Damn. Link did not work. The gist of the article is that Brookville has been awarded a federally funded contract to convert these 4 cars into into 2 new pump trains. One car will be the actual pump car and the other will be a generator car. In addition, Brookville will provide NYCT 480 volt trainline kits to retrofit into existing hose and reach cars in order to connect them into these new converted pump and generator cars. All cars will receive new 70 ton trucks designed for freight applications.

trainfan22 Posted November 17, 2021 Share #5 Posted November 17, 2021 Damn, I wanted one of the trolley museums to get these cars. Ethier way, seeing them run on their own power again was highly unlikely as they probably need the B cars to function like the R142-R179s do.

7-express Posted November 18, 2021 Share #8 Posted November 18, 2021 It's also buried in this month's board meeting notes for NYCT.
Eric B Posted November 18, 2021 Share #9 Posted November 18, 2021 I thought they already were converted into something like that.

Eric B Posted December 19, 2021 Share #13 Posted December 19, 2021 They're just now going for the converson to pump cars? I thought they had done that already. (Or were they simply talking about it for years?)
7-express Posted December 20, 2021 Share #14 Posted December 20, 2021 The B-cars were previously converted while the A-cars were left alone. Not sure why they were left out back in the day but it might have been lack of funding.
Lawrence St Posted December 20, 2021 Share #15 Posted December 20, 2021 I completely disagree with this. #8001 should be left for the NYTM and converted to a static display.
MHV9218 Posted December 23, 2021 Share #16 Posted December 23, 2021 Really a shame to see all of the cars go out like this. At least leave one of them, especially seeing some of the interiors are in tact. Those interiors were designed by Massimo Vignelli and have major design significance. Agree that they should be at the NYTM. They could have easily used a 62A or R134 for the extra pump car in the set, given that these cars are getting a full reconstruction.

Yeah, if they at least decided to convert the R130 A-units to some sort of work motors, I could understand. But gutting them and turning them into pump trailers? Seems like somebody at 2 Broadway or 130 Livingston just didn't give a crap. Watch them screw with the R131s next, for all we know.
