Q25toJamaica Posted February 2, 2009 Share #1 Posted February 2, 2009 This is a pic from the user here ORION (NOT ME) of 8340, recently whitebacked. Does anyone know why it doesn't have emergency lights seeing as it's a ex- NYCTA 1990 TMC RTS-06?
Ken S. Posted February 2, 2009 Share #2 Posted February 2, 2009 They were probably removed when it first went into MTA Bus service.

nycbusfan Posted February 2, 2009 Share #4 Posted February 2, 2009 My guess would be that the bus was originally supposed to be retired and had a few parts removed. Does that thing have a white back?
blazemillion Posted February 2, 2009 Share #5 Posted February 2, 2009 It was removed upon its move to MTA Bus.

Acela Express Posted February 3, 2009 Share #9 Posted February 3, 2009 Does anyone know why it doesn't have emergency lights seeing as it's a ex- NYCTA 1990 TMC RTS-06? I stole 'em.
T J Trainman Posted February 3, 2009 Share #10 Posted February 3, 2009 They were probably going to scrap the bus and realized that it could still be used. The Emergency lights were taken off to go to another bus. Thats my guess.
aemoreira81 Posted February 4, 2009 Share #11 Posted February 4, 2009 But none of the others have them removed 8177 also has the lights removed. The real puzzle is why an 18-year old bus would be repainted.
Ken S. Posted February 5, 2009 Share #12 Posted February 5, 2009 Those are all ex-DOT buses. Bus 8340 is ex-NYCT.
7LineFan Posted February 5, 2009 Share #13 Posted February 5, 2009 Those are all ex-DOT buses. Bus 8340 is ex-NYCT. I know already. His point is that the ex-DOT buses never had emergency lights, and all NYCT buses are supposed to.

BJC Posted February 5, 2009 Share #15 Posted February 5, 2009 1990 TMC at MTA bus don't have the emergency lights, because they use to have Roll-sign in them...when they were at MTA bus the older electronic sign were taken out and they put roll-sign in their place. Well this bus do have the lights and this bus use to have Roll-signs.
Q25toJamaica Posted February 5, 2009 Author Share #16 Posted February 5, 2009 Not all RTS has Emergency lights they have it some where place else on the left/right side and not the front. Those ex-PBLs arent supposed to.

aemoreira81 Posted February 6, 2009 Share #18 Posted February 6, 2009 Why 8177 and 8340 lost the "hooligan lights" is beyond me. BTW, a sidenote: 8368 is now assigned to East New York and got the New York City Bus lettering back on all sides.
