Guest Charles Posted April 6, 2009 Share #13 Posted April 6, 2009 Those buses were great on the Triboro lines. They retired prematurely in my opinion.
7LineFan 256 Posted April 6, 2009 Share #14 Posted April 6, 2009 To compress all of that into one post... RTS-06 CNG models. Instead of using diesel fuel, they ran on compressed natural gas, which is why they have that big tank on the roof. Triboro and Command ran them, and even the had a few, although not for very long, in the early-to-mid 1990s. They were all retired soon after the takeover. Triboro and Command ran them, and even the had a few, although not for very long, in the early-to-mid 1990s. They were all retired soon after the takeover. The MTA had three of those. 8398-99 were purchased in 1991 and 8567 was purchased in 1993. All three of those buses were sold to command. 8398-99 became command 4976 and 4977 and 8567 became 4978. Out of those three only 4978 survived the takeover and was renumbered 754. Here are a few links to photos of the buses. Igor Gaysinsky 10 Posted April 6, 2009 Share #19 Posted April 6, 2009 all they needed was 2 replace the tanks that`s all and those buses would have ran fine
