  1. From a network perspective, it’s better to add service on the n43 than restore the n45. Pinepower probably prefers the n45 because it goes directly to Bellmore On the Veolia contract, no complaints from me. I feel like NICE as an agency is generally much more responsive than the MTA. Bringing back LIB would be a downgrade (esp in terms of dollars vs service provided) . One could argue that maybe MV or First Transit would do a better job, but I think transdev is doing fine
  2. Good... not only does it make the turnstile area actually ADA Accessible, the less the door opens the better the probability the MTA collects its fare. I think systemwide, all of the turnstiles should be replaced with gates like these (but taller), and proof of payment checks on board.
  3. I would argue that the service cuts are already implemented. On the subway front, Frequencies are drastically slashed back already especially on the B Div. What used to be every 8 minutes on weekend turned into 10 minutes, and now every 15 minutes. Service every 20 minutes reserved only for late night, is now common place throughout the system, and comes much earlier than the traditional late night periods. They currently blame it on crew shortage, but there is nothing to indicate that the headways we use to have will ever come back. (just look at how long the temporary QBL weekend 12 minutes headway lasted). On the bus front. Missing trip left and right. Sooner or later, MTA is going to try to space out the trips better with the now reduced workforce, and keep it that way. That is really what I will think will happen. The next service cut unless dire will not be as obvious as we are cutting XY Line but more of, lets cut the 8:05, 8:20, 8:35 and 8:50 trips and replace it with 8:00, 8:20, and 8:40 like they have been doing for years now, but probably more often
  4. The n57, n19, n78/79, n81, El Flexi, MM Shuttle and maybe even the n16, n33, n48, n58, n26, n27 and n21. I don't see both the n55/54 surviving the next rounds of cuts as well. n22/24 will have its combined service reduced east of Mineola, and n15 north of Hempstead, Frequency reductions along all corridors. That being said, NICE bus operators are absolutely ruthless when it comes to people paying the fare. If the passenger gets a Metrocard that has no money on it, they simply don't get a ride. I rarely see courtesy rides in Nassau. Compared to Staten Island, where no one pays and the excuse is "we are too far from a MVM"... give me a break
  5. Thats the precise reason why NICE will have its budget cut. Majority of Nassau County residents don't care, so when the county runs out of money through various tax cuts/lack of spending cuts, NICE bus will be the first to have it's budget cut back to the minimum 2 million again And of course there will be some residents that are supportive of this cut in the name of "I see empty buses all the time"
  6. Classic Bee Line move, adding articulated on low frequency routes so they would not have to increase service on them
  7. Like I said from the previous thread Deinterlining should make the system easier to understand, not harder. Simply put, there should be LESS lines/letters and more frequency on each line. Your proposal adds more lines and more complex service patterns
  8. That being said above I always wanted to ride the 139 variants through Englishtown, or Taylors Mills though never had the chance to do so. Wonder how ridership does on those. From Google Map there doesn't seem to be much along Old Bridge- Englishtown Rd, so I would imagine most ridership would come from Englishtown
  9. The original plan was to take the one that skips Freehold Center and walk from US Rt 9, but unfortunately that one never showed up. The next one was a combine Freehold Center/Mall service. I pressed stop request after Freehold Center thinking it would get closer to Racetrack or stop on Rt 9, but no it just kept going until "Freehold Mall" and I was like, this is the mall NJT likes to emphasis? My mistake, there absolutely is demand between Central NJ to NNJ. right now, the only way to get between these two points is by rail (assuming it doesn't run express) or the 817. The network in CNJ is way too NYC (or even Newark) focused. Nothing between Perth Amboy and Old bridge P + R is ridiculous. For SNJ I think the demand mostly goes west out to Camden/Philadelphia. The only demand north per say I think is on the 559 north from Atlantic City (now thinking about it, its the only thing and 319 going north from there). Simply too much nothing in between Camden - CNJ and SNJ - CNJ I would argue that alot of the ridership from Lakewood on the 139 is off the bus by Freehold as well. That stop seems to be the point where NYC riders start boarding in masses. There seems to be some demand between US 9 served by the 139 and US 9 served by the 559. By centralizing everything at Toms River, passengers couldtransfer from all directions. For example Pax from Atlantic City can take the 319 and xfer to the 67 or the 139 north, or 559 south. If there can be some sort of pulse operation there, it is even better You are absolutely correct in that no one will utilize the P + R for intra-NJ location, but that location in my opinion has better transfer options and is a better transfer point than Lakewood is Its remarkable how bad the service is east of the Delaware River compared to west of it (SEPTA territory). The routes between Cherry Hill Mall to Camden could've been extremely busy, but NJT runs a hodgepodge amount of routes between these two points I hope as part of the study, they can increase some the frequencies for some of the routes. I personally prefer the cheaper PATCO - NJT combo between Camden - Philadelphia. Its not like NJT trips are coordinated at Camden anyways. That being said PATCO itself runs every 30 minutes these days on weekends as well. The long distances service will most likely continue to cross the Delaware (Cape May, AC, Asbury Park) If they are not running one seat service from Philadelphia, I don't see any point running it into Philadelphia at all, might as well just give all the riders to PATCO. Its as asinine as running a shuttle between PABT and Newark and forcing everyone to transfer there
  10. When looking at deinterlining you have to look at the effects of the entire system, not just a specific segment. Let me try to break down your desired service pattern A EXP (8th Ave) UP 207th Street - Far Rockaway K EXP (8th Ave) GC Norwood - Lefferts via Express B LCL (6th Ave) UP 168th - Brighton Local D LCL (6th Ave) GC BFP - Coney Island Local C LCL (8th Ave) UP 168th - Euclid In your example, you didn't really de-interline CPW, but instead more complexity to the service patterns. For example, C train still runs local on CPW alongside the 2 other 6th Ave service. In fact there is more interlining north of 145th Street between 8th Ave and Concourse service (with the K merging with the local D, and the B merging with the A). In a true deinterline, the service pattern theoretically are extremely simple For example A 207th Street - Far Rockaway/Lefferts via all Local every 4 minutes B 205th St- Coney Island via all Express every 4 minutes Of course it wouldn't be this simple because routing all B via 4th Ave would affect the N train, and changing the N train will affect the Q and R, and changing those will affect EFM.
  11. At Lexington Av 59th St there is a weird new announcement adding "by walking to the Lexington Av 63rd Street Station and using OMNY or Metrocard"
  12. Took the 139 down south to Freehold yesterday. Traffic was absolutely horrible, so bad that 2 buses were running 30 minutes late back to back. Feel bad for those people standing between Old Bridge and PABT, especially with that traffic. There is no way it only takes 1 hr and 20 minutes to get from Freehold to PABT. The bus took an hour from Old Bridge to PABT, and that was with the driver flooring it. Turns out, the Freehold Mall that NJT likes to emphasis on the headsign is not Freehold Raceway Mall but a half abandoned "Freehold Mall with a parking lot and Burlington". At Freehold Mall or elsewhere on Rt 9, everyone was picked up/dropped off by a car waiting. I walked down US 9 for a bit until I realized it was impossible and took the 67 one stop back to Raceway. Should've gotten off at Freehold Center and walked to the Raceway Mall from there. I think alot of that has to do with the commuter traffic between NNJ-CNJ. Without NJT service on Rt 9 to NYC, service to NNJ from CNJ is comparable with the ones from SNJ-CNJ (maybe even worse). Due to this commuter traffic, NJT runs pretty frequent service on Rt 9 to NYC. Much more frequent than anywhere else in CNJ, or even SNJ (It almost looks like NJT barely even want to serve Philadelphia at all (comparable to NJT telling NYC commuters to take PATH to Newark for bus service). Most of the commuter traffic from Philadelphia/Camden seems to only extend as far as the last stop on the PATCO. That being said, what do you think about extending the 139 into Toms River and cutting the 559 to Toms River as well? If we can find a way to create a "pulse" at Toms River between 319, 552, 139 and 67, I think that should serve everyone's need perfectly Apparently Academy and Coach USA still makes a decent profit (pre-pandemic) on these commuter routes. With them there, I don't see NJT coming in and improving service on them. Its a shame because some corridors do have potential for off peak/reverse peak service. Then there is also this peak Academy bus on weekdays to Wall Street on Rt 9 which I think NJT used to run until that was cut in 2010. Even these routes are designed to carry commuters from points along Rt 9 into Jersey City/Weehawken/Hoboken/Newark.
  13. https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/all-metro-trains-to-run-about-every-30-minutes-as-wmata-investigates-blue-line-derailment/2835776/ Train will run every 30 minutes on all branches and all trains will be 6 cars long.
  14. I just have to emphasis how crappy the Central Jersey bus routes are... There is NO reason why it is so hard to get from Perth Amboy to Old Bridge, or anywhere to Old Bridge for that matter. It is almost like there is this gap in service between where the 116 ends and the 139's last stop in Old Bridge There are 8XX routes connecting some destinations here and there, but they are infrequent (which is understandable) and the seem to try to serve everything and nothing at the same time For example, the 817. This bus literally attempts to serve all the towns between Perth Amboy and Monmouth. Ridership is close to non existent after South Amboy. Adding to this, it terminates at Campbell junction, which is in the middle of nowhere. I mean aleast extend it to Middletown or Red Banks or something. Its so hard to get anywhere to anywhere that is not from somewhere on Rt 9 to NYC in that region especially East-West travel. I guess NJT just expected people to drive to Rt 9 and go from there, which would explain the amount of buses they pile on that corridor (which is much more than the rail service they provide on NJ Coast Line esp south of Long Branch) Some new corridors I am thinking includes something on Rt 33 to Princeton from Freehold, and something on Rt 1 north of where the 600 currently terminates out to New Brunswick. Can't wait for the redesign of the bus routes in this region
  15. Not sure if NJT gets 5311 grants for those extra long South Jersey routes such as 317, 315 etc, so it may serve them better not to phase them out and run them as it
  16. From my experience, most 7/11 seem to have them in stock. However alot of them are unable to be activated for whatever reason. I eventually did pick one up at a 7/11. Never seen it anywhere else though (CVS, Rite Aid, etc)
  17. Always impressed in how much service CDTA can provide compared to the rest of upstate NY. Specifically looking at you CENTRO in Syracuse
  18. They also cut some trips at night. Essentially there is less service now on the n40/41 than the old n40 and the n41. There really is no point in having an n41 and n72 label at this point. These routes are essentially dead: planning wise.
  19. 2.5 hours? The current Metrocard free transfer is about 2 hours 15 minutes although officially its 2 hours. I wonder what the limit for OMNY is. Maybe I should test it out one day. I don't believe fare capping is active yet. I think the only mention that the card has the capacity to do that. Not part of the official tariffs yet which will require board approval
  20. They did? I sore that the still stopped in the same location when I took it yesterday (granted it was an R68). Wonder why they did that? The ridership at the train part of the platform is much higher than the exits on the other side of the platform
  21. The train stops at the front of the platform towards Court Sq, and rear of the platform towards Church Avenue which are where the exits are for the , so I don't see how its different from what they have now.
  22. No other borough is fare beating this systemic and "normal". It almost seems like the whole borough is not paying, ranging from people in Tottenville, to people in New Dorp or the North Shore. Granted its worse on some routes than others (S46 looking at you). The strangest thing is on some routes almost everyone pays despite it being near others! On Forest Ave, "most" people pay, yet on Castleton, no one does. Let me guess for the express buses on SI weekends, everyone under 25 just doesn't pay? In the Bronx, from my experience, there is VERY high level of fare beating. I was on the Bx15 once from The Hub and almost 60% of the passengers entered through the back door. The Bronx is also the only borough I seen people running for the back door before it closes and holding it for other people. The articulated buses are the worst when it comes to fare beating in the Bronx. Can't wait for backdoor boarding to be in effect, so I wouldn't have to see entitled people thinking their dollar is worth more than mines.
  23. B/O in Nassau seems to be stricter regarding rules on the buses than in the city. I mean I saw a driver and a passenger get into a fight because the passenger didn't have a mask. Before the installation of turnstiles at Tompkinsville there were a couple of locals that skip both Stapleton and Tompkinsville during rush hours to discourage people from getting off there to save the fare. The tradeoff for not paying that fare at St George is that they catch a later ferry, fair enough... Ironically the people getting on the bus at St George usually pay, but as soon as you get onto Victory Blvd, nobody does anymore The thing that doesn't sit right with me, was just how "bold" the people are in SI when it comes to fare beating. Probably the boldest out of all five boroughs. Just walk right on in through the front door and take a seat. Families, young, old, everyone. Those fare beaters on SI just don't sit right with me. People who obviously can pay but don't pay. You are telling me, that you are out there wearing AirPods pros, and you can't afford the $2.75? At this point, it's like they expected free service. At least in the other boros, people either ask the driver, sneak in through the back door, etc, but no it is blatant here on SI. Regarding Queens, never noticed a different culture (I'm from here so I may carry a bias). Lines are definitely enforced here in Queens, however (by the passenger). Drivers also seem more inclined to hold the bus when they see someone not pay. It haven't been this rampant or bold in other boroughs though. The Bronx has fare beating, but most people entering through the front door pays. No other borough do people just walk on in and take a seat. So SI'ers must be especially hostile or something B42 IMO is one of the better ones. Its relatively frequent and because its short, its semi reliable. I agree with you in general though, buses in this city is slow, and worse of all unreliable. Routes like Q38 have bunching issues despite having 15-20 minutes headways, which is unbelievable I think the riders in generals need to support the B/O more when they do hold the buses because someone didn't pay. Once you let someone in for free, that mentality starts to spread with the exact thinking you mentioned (and I mentioned) of "why should I pay, when nobody else does", and riders who would normally pay, stops doing so
  24. They actually improved the appearance of Sunrise Mall. Used to look worse. They have a sears in there which is interesting, because they are all gone at this point The "terminal" is terrible. I'm not even sure if people use the bus to go the the Sunrise anymore All the n54/55s trips I taken were empty by the time it got to Uniondale Ave, and all the n71s I taken were empty after Farmingdale. There is some SCT ridership but I would argue that the ridership is negligible on both the S33 and the S20 to the mall.
  25. Out fanning Staten Island Buses today, those buses really fly. In some ways it reminds me of riding NICE bus both the surrounding and the 3Gs. Some parts of SI looks like Nassau or even Suffolk County, yet buses runs every 15-30 minutes Lots of fare beating on the Island in general, from every type of demographics. Still amazed me that the drivers on SI seems to give up on enforcing the fares and just press F5, yet in Queens they will still yell at you if you don't pay. I would say on some routes 60% of the people just walk on (looking at you S46). In Nassau, people don't put enough money in the farebox, In the Bronx, people enter through the back door to evade the fair, people in SI just walk through the driver! Now I know why the buses move so slow in Queens, too many people pay! I wonder if its the same on the express routes. There is a remarkable difference in ridership north of SIE and south of SIE. It seems like thats the dividing line on SI Also, the S59 is remarkably underutilized. I feel like if they extended the S44 to Eltingville. the S59 doesn't really need to exist
