  4. A message to all people who play music to an audience: there is far better Christmas music than that put out by Justin Bieber. Please go far away, thanks.

That's good - at least you have some control over it. Another tip is do not decrease the aperture (in other words don't make the f-number higher). You're going to need all the light you can get. Also if you camera can zoom, keep in mind that by zooming in it will be forced to lower its aperture, meaning less light will go into your camera.

Do not use any of the semi auto modes (A, S, P, except for maybe shutter priority). Manual makes most sense. A high shutter speed is needed, but don't go to high. With a P&S, anywhere above 1/50th of a second is too dark. Their is not much room for adjustment because below 1/30th there will be blur.

Good old fashioned paint.net, with a lot of help measuring distances from Google Maps.

You should download Adobe Illustrator or something that can work with vector graphics and layers. It'll be immensely helpful when you need to make revisions or just see one aspect of a map.

yep - unfortunately I have to wait 2 years to go. Pity, they displayed a cool selection of vehicles, from what was posted on a Slovakian transit forum I go on.

Hmm...We're doing a Penny harvest for the homeless this year...Our school is rich (we have Smartboards in every room) so I'm not worried.

      ttcsubwayfan

I don't know... we had a breast cancer awareness day yesterday and I didn't donate, because I'm not sure of where that money is going. They made a huge deal of the whole event with a lot of pink decorations which lead to me wonder if the cash is actually going to charity or if they're just using it to pay for the large amount of sports events. I'd prefer to donate to an actual charity than a school who claims to support one.

  12. Downloading mods for games can be a really horrific experience when the uploader uses some cheap site with pop ups.

Euro Truck Simulator 2 is another big one. Some people will go for a higher class of site like Dropbox, but most will use a site like Uploadfiles.eu or Sharemods.com, and every time I open the download on one of those it also opens numerous spam pop ups.

I dare Adblock naysayers to browse those sites without ABP for even 10 minutes.

    4. ttcsubwayfan

      ttcsubwayfan

That is so true. I use Adblock, I can't imagine what manner of experience these sites would be without it. I mean, it's one thing to be stupid and click on a shady sounding link, and another to have it open for you.

As it is I find that most of the old shit is in Brooklyn. The emerging stereotypical hipsters love them.

  16. Found an interesting strategy for getting photos of things I have videos of. When the video is paused and there isn't any motion blur, I take a screenshot, and crop it. This might seem horribly obvious to some people but the idea never occured to me before. I know have some decent captures of R32 interiors which I didn't have before. Cool.

I'm fairly certain a lot of cameras these days with recording capabilities has the feature to record and take pics at the same time on the device itself.

    3. ttcsubwayfan

      ttcsubwayfan

You're probably right, and I should have a look at my own camera and see if it can do that as well, but what I was referring to was what happened in the past... i.e. I filmed a bunch of videos on board R32s but I didn't take many photos, so I print screened the video and managed to get some "photos", as it were.

    4. peacemak3r

      peacemak3r

Yeah most of the newer phones has this capability so I'm sure a lot of cameras should have it as well.

Oh... well, it was nicer earlier on, from what I've gathered in the shoutbox. Meanwhile, here we've had 3 days of rain. Today was quite nasty - I had a little puddle of water in my shoes when I returned. I suck at describing shit so y'all probably have no idea what type of weather I'm talking about.
