  1. Surprised that they're not going to last as long as the older R62s. Surely the life of a garbage train must be really lightweight compared to revenue service rolling stock?
  2. The problem with looking for 'variety' is that often times, it's much simpler and cheaper for a yard to maintain only one or two sets of car equipment. If you start throwing in a little bit of everything, you're going to increase the number of parts that need to be stored, and the number of personnel trained to operate and maintain the cars. Would it be nice to see anything operating anywhere? Sure it would, but there's a reason that's not something you see. As for your desired change of scenery, be the change you want to see in the world.
  3. One question - will the 211s be 5 car sets that are articulated, or will the FULL train be interconnected like on the Toronto Rockets?
  4. Is there a source that indicates that newer trains aren't built to last as long as the older ones? The tech probably won't, true, but why wouldn't the car bodies themselves be able to last 55 years? Keep in mind that no one anticipated that the R32s would last as long as they did, they've been hoping to retire them since the late 90s.
  5. I don't think anyone currently alive will have to deal with that problem, if at all.
  6. This is a completely meaningless debate that ultimately contributes nothing to anybody's life. There are as many different opinions about the cars as there are people who've had anything to do with them. There's no need to slag off either side for holding the views that they do, unless they start calling for decrepit cars to remain in service longer than is appropriate, or for perfectly serviceable cars to be retired just because they're no longer fresh and new.
  7. Thanks everybody for your advice. Related to the R62s, are there any stations in mid or lower Manhattan on the that leave enough space at the end of the platform to take photos? If I can do that instead of going out to Livonia that would be best, although in my limited experience with that train they leave marginal amounts of space at best.
  8. It's been a while since I've been to New York, but I may be visiting this year, and I wanted to finish off what I've been missing from my subway photo collection. I've begun tentatively planning an outing to photograph some cars outdoors in Brooklyn, but since the last time I've been to New York I've only gotten more cautious so I'd rather not go anywhere where I could be placing myself in danger. Can anyone comment on how safe the following areas are, to a guy waving a camera around: -Brighton Beach (photoing R68As) -assorted stations on the West End line (photoing R68s) -assorted stations on the Livonia line (photoing R62s) Obviously I wasn't born yesterday and I realize that common sense plays a significant role in how you are treated, but at the same time there's certain areas that it would just be wise to avoid, in the same way that I wouldn't go to our Toronto's Jane and Finch and start taking photos. If anyone would be able to help me out, that would be great! Additionally, have there been any fantrip dates announced for the summer? Although I wouldn't have the time to attend one, I wouldn't mind stopping by whatever station the trip originates from to photograph the museum cars before they head out, if my trip dates coincide with that. Thanks! 😀
  9. All of this of course begs the most important question - are there any R62A singles left that they will be able to save for the museum collection when their time comes? If they kept a 5 car set I imagine they'd run out of storage space real quick.
  10. Hi all, it's been a while since I checked in on this forum and even longer since I followed the R32 fleet swap, so I'd like to ask a couple of questions. 1. What was the reason they sent the R32s to ENY in the first place, and why did they push them all out now? 2. Are there any plans to send the 32s to a new yard, or will they live out their lives on the (C)? 3. Where are the R42s right now? Are they still at ENY?
  11. You need to go waaaaaaaaaaaaaay further back in history than 2012. The was eliminated in 1988. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K_(Eighth_Avenue_Local)
  12. I've been a member of this forum for six years, a period of time over which a lot has changed in my life. Good to know that no matter how unstable things get in the real world, I can always rely on Flushing Express to be fat shaming a subway car on the internet. In a way, it's almost comforting to know that some things never change.
  13. Nope. There aren't enough R62As in the fleet to do a 1-1 for swap between the and the .
  14. I should've clarified - yes, I get that there is a reason for it to exist, considering that the hasn't been cut yet - but in what way? I can't possibly fathom a scenario in which it makes sense to have half of the trains on the Jamaica line not serve specific stations. Obviously I don't live in New York, so I'm looking for some insights from those that do.
  15. Here's a question I've been pondering about - what is the point of the skip stop service on the ? Can anyone who is more familiar with that service clarify whether it's actually beneficial for ridership to have a bunch of stations only served by one of the lines?
  16. Metrolinx, the same company that operates GO Transit and pioneered the PRESTO fare card.
  17. The route in question is the Eglinton Crosstown LRT, and it is not going to be operated by the TTC. It is not scheduled to begin service until 2021.
  18. haven't posted here in a time lol

  19. This video is a must watch for anyone who is surprised by the outcome of the election.
