    It hasn't have to be a door failure, it could be a failure of any component. A train could very well stall in the event of a traction motor failure, for example.

    The R46s received LCDs when they underwent their general overhaul almost 25 years ago - at the time they were nowhere close to retirement. The R46s already had electronically operated rollsigns when they were delivered, the driver could change the displays on the train from his cab. When they retrofitted them with LCDs it was just a matter of swapping out the rollsigns for the digital signs. The R68s have manually operated signs.

The vast majority of destination signs are made on computers and stored on harddrives, then uploaded to the control units on board the vehicles.     You are wrong - the R62A order was complete by 1987. There was some shuffling around of car fleets initially, but, as per NYCSubway:

    You think Bombardier will be able to deliver 300 cars in 1 or 2 years? Their abysmal track record in recent times has made it quite clear that they can't.
