  1. One departs at 5:54am to Eastchester-Dyre, the next/last train departs New Lots at 7:54am to e180.
  2. When DCAS used to administer and grade the exams you could expect to recieve your official score and list number in the mail within 8-12 months. Now that the MTA themselves are handling their own exams it takes over a year just to recieve your score. I don't know when 8098 was published, but let's take the conductors exam for example. The C/R exam 8094 was given in Dec 2008 and the official scores were published in Aug 2009 (8 months after) while the list was 'established' in 2011. The last conductor exam 6601 was given April-May of 2016 and they still haven't published the official results. Also, in the past after a promotional exam was established and hired from the last O/C was done with and they moved onto the next one after they finished with the promo. Now they're going back to the old O/C exams after they're finished hiring from the promo. Ever since transit started handling their own process they've been slower and doing things differently.
  3. Will, you have a point but it seems like they've changed that up as well since they've began handling their own process. When the last promotion to conductor exam was officially established they extended the last O/C exam 8094 the same day until Feb '18 and pasued hiring from the O/C exam until they exhausted the promo list and then they resumed hiring from the O/C. So really it's anyone's guess at this point. I honestly wish they were more transparent in a timely manner. The bottom line is like you said the people who just took this test have atleast a year and a half wait before they can expect to hear anything.
  4. Wow congrats man! You should be in one of the first classes when they start calling. Now for your questions. 1. If a question is successfully protested they'll either throw out the completely or there will be multiple correct answers. You have nothing to worry about in that regard. They aren't going to make a question wrong after it was one of the correct answers. 2. It's going to be hard to give an estimated timeframe. Ever since the MTA started administering their own exams they have been extremely slow with grading and publishing the scores. I took the last conductor exam in May '16 and I still haven't gotten an official word as to when I will recieve an official score/list number. Be prepared to wait at minimum a year to relieve your official scores. Patience is the name of the game but like I said when the time comes you should be in one for the first call ups. Congrats again!
  5. Temporary platforms aren't practical/possible at every station though. I'm sure the average rider doesn't care if the work seems 'rushed' if it means that they don't have to walk an extra 10 minutes to the next station or put up with a shuttle bus daily.
  6. Yeah probably not this random list number thing is ridiculous. My number is really hih too. Atleast we didn't have to pay haha. Did you apply for any other transit exams?
  7. I'm sure you beasted and feasted on this exam. I caught so many careless mistakes on my C/R exam after I went over my answers. I would've cried after checking my answers online lol. Speaking of which, I didn't take this exame but I'm just curious. Did they tell Y'all when the preliminary scores will be released?
  8. While that may be true in regards to a better setup being possible, however I don't think this one in particular is the resolution. Say we did have all of the necessary cars available and the runs to Astoria by itself does it run there overnights and on weekends too? The MTA is cash strapped as is I can't see them justifying this in their budget. The next question is where in Brooklyn does this new service terminate and does the ridership warrant this extra service? Finally, how do you explain to Queens riders that adding an extra 5 minutes to their commute since they just lost their express train in Manhattan benefits them? Interesting proposal I just can't see it happening given the pros and cons.
  9. It's almost impossible to give a good guesstimate with the way the exams are ran now. The MTA handles their own exam process now and they've been doing some things that warrant a head scratch. For example conductor exam 6601 was given last year and they've extended and returned to hiring from the previous open competitive test (given almost 10 years ago) AFTER they've exhausted from their promotional exam. Normally with dcas after they finish the promo it's onto the next open competitive. It's very possible that they may do the same thing with the train operator exam. (unfortunately) Patience is the name of the game, I hope that helps.
  10. I highly recommend you and anyone else who may be taking this exam check out this NYPD practice exam to get a feel for the type of questions you'll be asked. Ignore the first 14 questions you won't see anything like that on the T/O exam, but the reading comprehension and written expression parts are a good place to start. https://cdn-static.findly.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/281/2016/11/TutorialWeek1-updated-11-16.pdf These civil service exams aren't difficult at all you just have to pay attention to the details and wording in the questions.
  11. Don't hold your breath on that, it's going to be hard to get an estimated timeline the way they're handling the exams this time around. I took conductor exam 6601 last year and I'm still waiting for my official results. They allegedly finished hiring from the promotion to conductor list and they're returning to hiring from the previous o/c exam 8094 which was given about 9 years ago. They could very well return to the previous o/c Train operator exam after they finish with the promos, hopefully not but since they've acquired control of their exams from Dcas they've been doing things totally differently. Not trying to be a Debbie downer or anything I'm just trying to keep it real with you and share my experience. Good luck with your exam.
  12. I think that depends on the individual and their mindset. I'm aware of the the xx list and the erratic schedules. Trust me I've read alot of threads in here and have an uncle who's a retired motorman and had two 12-9's in his career. Like I said money isn't everything. It's not all ginger peachy no job is, but as a train buff the only thing I can think of betier is being upfront moving the beast. Maybe it isn't for everybody, but I'm not 'everybody'. Shoot I was one of the last people in my room on the day of the exam going over my answers and correcting my mistakes while others left as soon as they finished. It's the mindset imo. Well trying to get back on the right track (pun intended haha) since they're going back to 8094 the summer hopefully we hear something by the fall. I'm just amazed that they blew through almost 700 names that fast I mean sheesh. Keep in mind they're calling conductors upfront to train op so that could be good for us if they establish this list soon.
  13. You're right. It's just frustrating how they're handling the process this time around. What is the point of switching from dcas to in house to do the grading and taking way longer just to get the official results out, and then on top of that when the list finally does officially get established we'll still be able to call dcas to get our scores lmao. Then the whole going back to the previous o/c list after finishing up with the promos. That's crazy, I just wish they would've handled it like the last conductor exam. I'm sure a lot of us wouldon't be so anxious if we atleast knew our official scores and list numbers. But enough with the ranting you're right patience is a virtue. I'm willing to wait how ever long it takes (hopefully it won't take too long lmfao!) because honestly in my opinion the only city job I can think of being better than this is Train operator. Maybe I'm biased being a train buff and all, but I think people are out of their minds saying sanitation is the best job. Money isn't everything to me. I look forward to wearing one of those bright orange MTA vests they look clean!
  14. You'd emailed them and that was their response and did they mention anything about grading 6601? If you don't mind can you copy/paste their response here.
  15. Your best bet is to email the exams unit and go from there. I doubt they'll call from 8094 again since they apparently stopped calling from 8098 O/C train operator. According to a poster in here they're *allegedly* grading 6601 so if that is indeed true than this list should be used soon, but there's so many rumors going around so take everything with a grain of salt. Your best bet is to go to the source by emailing the exams unit and go from there.
  16. Of course you can pull it off twice, do the same thing you did before. Use all of the alloted time and check and recheck your answers and try not to overthink the questions. As you said I don't know why people leave as soon as they finished. I was midway through my conductor exam before people started leaving lol, they're going to be disappointed when we get our official results back. I went over my answers twice and caught so many careless mistakes I made simply because I didn't read the questions thoroughly. 79/80 on my preliminary results lord knows what it would've been if I would've left as soon as I finished. It's not a race, a couple of questions wrong could mean the difference between you getting called years later if at all. Take your time and go over your answers until you feel satisfied. I want to wish you and everyone else here taking this exam Goodluck. Hopefully all of us will be coworkers down the line. You got this!
  17. I'd take everything you see in these threads with a grain of salt. Calling 500 people in barely two months seems crazy to say the least. The MTA is not like NYPD or corrections where they have huge classes a month. The majority of people on that list failed their medicals or turned down the job? Just doesn't make sense. I think I saw that post you were referring to, that they'll stop using the 8094 list and hire them as cleaners. None of us can say for certain what they'll do. It'll be pure conjecture for someone to say for certain what they'll do. They're handling their own exam process now after switching from dcas so who knows. If anything you should try emailing "examsunit@nyct.com" and post their response. If they tell you like they allegedly told another poster in here that they're currently grading 6601 and prepping for the summer then you'll have your answer.
  18. They're not almost done the Promo was established in Feburary. There's 680 names on that list is doubt it would take 18 months, but 12 from now sounds about right. I do wish that "mattfuture" guy would stop with the misinformation.
  19. Thanks for the updates Xentor. As I said previously I had no idea that they were even calling from the promos so all of this is (good) news to me. So do a any of you have an idea when they'll start calling up from the promotion to Train Operator exam?
  20. I saw those threads too and I would take everything said there with a grain of salt. The promotional exam was established last month she said only 60 people were called and now they're up to 500 out of 680? That doesn't make any sense. Not trying to be a Debbie downer, just realistic that's all. Truth be told I'm just glad there's some movement and they're using the promotional now. I've been so busy with school and taking other exams I didn't even know they started calling from the promotional list, I thought they were still on 8094. Looks like we'll finally get our official scores next year, are you taking the Train Operator exam?
  21. OH my goodness! Lmao here I am "preaching" about proofreading and I'm not even practicing what I "preach". I'm using my table and the autocorrect on this damn thing is so strong. When I typed "C" in my last statement by itself it finished the word with "Chinese" hahaha.I kept deleting words, I didn't even notice the "B" part. You got me!
  22. I'm not trying to be rude at all with this post, but did you read what you just typed? If it runs 24 hours then it is running during late nights. As far as my opinion, it's not needed. The C, D, and Q handle the parts that the Bible supplement fine when it isn't running.
  23. It's all relative and everyone's situation is different. There's plenty of graduates that have bachelor's and masters degrees that are working dead end jobs paying anywhere from $9-15 an hour with no benefits. Sure it's part time, but it's still decent money, it looks great on a resume, and there's plenty of opportunities to move up within transit. College grad can be very ambiguous. Maybe someone who recently completed their AA can use this to help pay for their books and other fees and I'm almost certain that this job provides an unlimited employee pass good onews subways and local buses, so that saves them plenty instead of shelling out to buy a new monthly metrocard. It's all relative, I'd take this over working at Starbucks or target any day.
  24. If you get called for the traffic checker position first start working and then get called for conductor before your probation for that title you won't have the right to return say if you get fired or just quit being a conductor so you'd be out of a job. Other than that though there shouldn't be any issues. As long as you have your hs diploma when you're called up for conductor you should be fine. They're two open competitive titles. No need to become a cleaner or anything else.
