  1. You'd have to resign from the position of Traffic Checker (if you were called first) and then accept the conductor job. Conductor is an open competitive title so there's no need for you to become a cleaner or anything else if you're called from 6601. We should be getting our results for conductor next year before people actually take the traffic checker exam anyway. Last month I was told 12-18 months from the nyct exams unit via email. I applied for this position too (seems like a sweet gig for someone fresh out of college) but I'm hoping to be called from 6601 within the first two years of it being established. Good luck to you, there's no exam fee so there's really nothing to lose from applying.
  2. I wish some stations like Canal street (transfer from R to N/Q platform) and park place/chambers had higher roofs/ceilings. I'm no giant, but man is it uncomfortable to almost smack your head on the roof or to feel the heat from tho7se lights and almost hit your head on those metal rods at chambers lol.
  3. You're probably smelling something else then. To say that it would be foolish for a group of people to file a class action lawsuit against the MTA over this would be an understatement. On the NOE and on the TA website it states when the list is established our results will be mailed and once our name is reached on the eligible list we'll be called down. You can only sue if they don't call/hire 1 name off the list. It would be incredibly asinine to sue, a judge would probably just laugh and throw the case out and your lawyers would collect their easy check regardless. Keep in mind it took about 3 years from the test date for someone to be hired off of 8094, so our wait seems reasonable. It's just infuriating that they would offer employment to people who "just passed" when they gave out a promotional exam almost two years ago which should have been graded by now smh. Ridiculous.
  4. I understand your viewpoint totally, but I slightly disagree. There's no way all 45k applicants passed this exam. Maybe 35-41k give or take a thousand. With all of those who pass and scored very high how many of those people will have better paying jobs or simply lost interest in this position by the time their list # is reached? Out of all of civil service exams I've taken this is the exam that I've scored the highest on (1 wrong) but if I were to get called for another position before if or when the MTA reaches my # I certainly would take it, but I'd resign if or when the TA eventually contacts me because I love trains and being a Train Operator is something that I've always wanted to do since I was a kid so I'd happily take a pay cut just to do what I love. With that said, we're in tough economic times and I doubt the majority of the people on this list feel the same as I do and would take the paycut to follow their dream and I don't knock them for it. If I had to guess I'd say you should be ok with no more than 2-3 wrong, *maybe* 4 but that may be pushing it. Then again, we didn't see them extending 8094 at the last minute, so who's to say they won't do the same for 6601? I'm certainly just as frustrated as you, Niku, Matt, and everyone else about this news. It's ridiculous that people who could barely pass a simple reading comprehension exam keep getting a million chances when you have current employees and outsiders who scored higher waiting. Excuse the rant, it's not my intention to be condescending or judgmental towards anyone, just frustrated and apparently I'm not the only one who feels this way. I'm going to try and link this quote from someone much more knowledgeable than me who expresses the point I was trying to convey much better. From SubwayGuy, spot on.
  5. Didn't call, I emailed examsunit@nyct.com and they told me they expect to have it established in one year. You can try too and if they tell you the same then it seems like we're getting upset over nothing.
  6. Guys, just email the exams unit and see what they say. I'd be more inclined to believe what they say (the source) rather than what some newspaper article states. This "news" seems irritating at face value, but I'm really questioning the validity of it and won't get upset over it until I know it's true. Also keep in mind transit is handling the exam process themselves now, which is why we haven't and won't receive our official scores for a while. Again, try contacting the exams unit. If they tell you like they've told me then we *may* not have that much of a longer wait.
  7. My thinking is online with yours. I've read some posts in the 8094 thread and it seems like they're doing mixed classes. I recently emailed the nyct exams unit and they told me they expect to establish 6601 in one year. You guys should give a shot and see what they say, my email about 2 weeks ago. If they tell you the same thing they told me then I'll start to have doubts about the validity of that chief article. It just doesn't make sense to me that they'd continue to call from the bottom of the barrel of applicants from 8094 when they have two lists ready with potential new hires that scored higher, along with the fact that they're increasing the qualifications for the title and they're having issues with the applicants from the Train Operator exam.
  8. In the conductors thread I saw someone say that the current test is going to expire on the 30th of this month (it's supposed to expire Feb 17th) and you're saying the Train operator exam will be finished in March though it's supposed to expire in late 2017. Is transit allowed to cut the lifespan of a list short like that even though they have datesome set in stone already? I hope it's true because I'm on 6601 with a decent score, but I've never heard of a list being cut short like that. Also, are you aware of any promotional employees receiving their official scores and list #'s?
  9. According to the preliminary results posted online I have 79 out of 80 so about a 98.75. I'm hoping to get called with that and then take the next promo to Train Operator Had I known they were going to change the requirements for T/O I probably would've done things differently, but what's done is done so no need to harp on it and have regrets.
  10. Same boat, would've been nice if they would've substituted college credits for the experience. Seems we were so close, yet so far. Oh well, I didn't expect to take this exam (7604) since I didn't meet the qualifications for the last exam so I won't let this get me down too much. It is disappointing to say the least. How'd you do on your conductors exam? We may not be out the fight. I'm very happy with my preliminary score so I'm hoping I'll get called for that and then take the next promotional exam for Train Operator whenever that comes around again. At least by then we'll be ahead of the next wave of open competitive people lol.
  11. "For anyone like me, whose circumstances are depending on this job" Hey brother, just a friendly piece of advice. Don't "depend" on getting this job take every exam you qualify for since you never know what can happen. With that said thank you for the update, I kind of wish the MTA wouldn't have taken over the exam process from the DCAS since they're quick to send out scores. I got my results from the corrections exam approximately 6 months after I took my exam. It also took about 8 months for the candidates on 8094 to receive their official results. A two year wait just to even receive our official score and list number is disappointing to say the least. On a good note, the promotion to Train Operator exam should be used before 6601 will get touched so that along with the usual yearly retirements should free up a substantial amount of vacancies. I got a good score on my preliminary results so I'm hoping I can be hired the first year when they start calling from our list. Best of luck to you and everyone else on this list.
  12. They don't have the finances to do so and the C line meets their loading guidelines. You can check out their explanation in more detail here http://web.mta.info/nyct/service/pdf/AC_LineReview.pdf And I agree with you and everyone else, what a foolish mistake on that guys part.
  13. Could be the extra money, less stress, get tired of the job, or they probably wanted to be a T/O initially, but didn't meet the qualifications at the time (which is actually my case, well of course I'm not an employee but I won't meet the qualifications for T/O) Redviper, a 98 implies that you got 1 wrong (congrats on your score I got the same) , but I doubt we'll be in the "first batch". I read some of the old threads on here and it took them about two years to call people off the O/C list because they had a promo of about 400 people. Yeah the MTA will be adding new lines and increasing service on current lines along with people retiring, leaving, and promoting from Conductor, but we don't know for sure what the future holds. I'd personally just expect the worse and be happy if something great came along. Also a reminder, the last exams for 6601 were given in July so we have a bit of a wait regardless to get our official scores.
  14. The IRT was a mess this morning. At every stop starting from the terminal the conductor had to get on the PA and tell people to move out the way if you weren't exiting and that 5's were running local in BK and up the west side. Later on I saw a train operator out of uniform wearing a green shirt and a vest lol. It probably was a TSS, but he was operating the train though.
  15. Well the last exam was given on July 27th and SubwayGuy stated that it takes about a year from the date of the exam so it looks like we'll be waiting a while. They have to exhaust the promo list before they get to us O/C people anyway so there's no need to be impatient.
  16. I think so. The MTA posted a rendering of what they're supposed to look like I forgot the link to it though. You can probably search for it on Google to find it.
  17. I guess the MTA and their contractors learned from the mistakes at Rockaway/Van siclen because they're making some stellar progress on the station rehabs on the 3. The Manhattan bound platform at Saratoga avenue looks like it's almost done. The actual platform has the concrete and ADA strips in place, the steel beams need to be painted and windscreens have to be added though. So far so good I guess the F and N station rehabs may be done on time too, now just wait and see if the SAS will be done on time. (which I doubt lol) I'm anxious to see how their new station design that the governor revealed will look too and the stations that are planned.
  18. SubwayFan said it best... If you're looking for opinions a 90% isn't great on any highly competitive civil service exam, what happened with Amm0 is an anomaly, but you have the track worker position to fall back on. But again, SubwayFan said it best we just have to wait and see.
  19. He started using alcohol to cope with the pain of witnessing stuff like that and as a result has become addicted unfortunately other than that though he's fine no hard drugs or anything, just a lunatic that thinks he can dance lol. He tells me alot of stories about the job though, has a ton of books and gave me one of his old MTA vests. NJT seems cool, I was actually thinking about applying for something with Amtrak after I graduate college and godwilling if I get the call from the MTA down the line I would resign from that and join them. Heh, if you pass up the C/R position for NYCT that means I move up one post on the list, sweet lol.
  20. You lucky sob! Haha congrats on your score man you should be hired within the first year they start hiring, I got one wrong so it'll take a while longer. About the second part, it's crazy you brought that up. Just the other day my brother tried to sway me to do Corrections because of the money they make after 5 years and how young I am, but I told him look at all the crap they have to deal with (literally at times) and he brought up our uncle who's a retired Train Operator and the mental impact people jumping in front of his train had on him and such. I'll leave it at there. I'll just have to hope that I'll never have to experience something like that, but money can't buy happiness for me. I know for a fact that I'd be infinite times happier at the controls of a train than to be locked in a jail with people that hate you and want to do you harm. Congrats on your score though! That probably explains the long waiting period, I hope we won't have to wait that long especially with all the service improvements and new trains they're buying. I understand patience is a virtue though, thanks for enlightening us.
  21. You and me are the total opposite, I actually find the railroads to be boring lol. My dream is to operate those old trains in the IRT before they retire well they're not really old, but they're older than me. What did you score if you don't mind me asking?
  22. I won't meet the requirements for that title by the time the application process starts I'm no where near meeting it lol, but I only got 1 wrong on 6601 so I think I should be fine in the long run.
  23. A little over 4 years seems insane lol I hope it doesn't take that long this go around even with the promotionals going first. This is probably a dumb question, but if the top pay will increase will the starting rate increase also? I'm not complaining about the 20$/ an hour I know alot of people dream about that in this economy. I hope to see you down the road someday too, my ultimate goal is to use this as a stepping stone to become a Train Operator.
  24. They installed those new strip maps that have Lexington and 7th avenue stops, the 142's are fine as is. He's probably never rode the stretch from Franklin Avenue to Nevins Street on the Eastern Parkway local to make that comment about the R62's and R142's. That stretch has so many timers, curves and sudden stops the R142's make the ride so much more enjoyable than a R62. It goes beyond Flashy lights and signs, better suspension and and curved seats are just some of the many factors that improve the ride quality.
