  1. Can you stop with these non-starter proposals that create larger problems than the ones you perceive? There’s a reason why we don’t use the junction between 57th and 63rd despite the problems of 60th.
  2. Yards won't be an issue if you can use 36th-38th; do keep in mind though that it is not a super big issue as the route operated fine pre-1987 (you would get extra mileage but it's not a major issue).
  3. Can someone explain the first page? Is it a list of all scrapped units or the remaining ones? What are the red ones? Why are there still old buses there?
  4. Not that it’s really needed, but would it ever be possible to re-add a second track to the Franklin shuttle?
  5. Knowing the MTA, they’ll have one that sounds super creepy.
  6. (Forgive me if I this is viewed as ridiculous, I just brought this proposal back up to ask if it makes sense as I am unfamiliar with the bus routes outside of Manhattan)
  7. Do you also know how 3352-3353 and 4480-4481 are doing?
  8. My guess is that they didn’t want to preserve a 4 car set and figured that they would just preserve an R46 (my guess is that they will keep one of the 2 car sets). It’s also possible that the cars were so deteriorated that they didn’t want any more or that they couldn’t secure a set in time. Speaking of that, do they plan on doing anything with 3350-3351 and 4665-4460? The cars have been sitting at CI for quite some time and the latter doesn’t seem to be looking too good...
  9. The tunnel design cannot fit straight cars (so no pre-R44 cars).
  10. The R32s would probably be on a farewell trip across the system like the R30s with the last one on the . I would highly doubt they would see regular service.
  11. Here's the way I think it should go: Majority of R211s start arriving at Jamaica for the and replace the R46s on the outright while displacing the R160s on the to the and the ones on the to the ; this will retire all of Jamaica's R46s. The new 5 car R160s on the would then displace the 4 car R179s to the for 8 car service; the 's R68s could then be used for something like weekend service. The rest of the R211s would be sent to 207th to retire the 46s and 32s there which would leave the splitting a fleet of 5 car R211s, R160s and R179s. RPK will probably get 5 car R179s.
  12. The would be a waste to get R211s given how its crowding can be so low that you can find a seat during rush hour... the R211s are best going to the ; the 4 car R179s on the can go to the and the R160s on the can go to the or .
  13. I'd expect the to split R211s and R179s while the gets 8 car 179s, the gets maybe some R211s, and the gets 5 car R160s. If it were up to me I would put R179s and R160s on the so the R211s could go to the .
  14. Oh god not this to Woodlawn sh*t again... people are obsessed with this project. Assuming we de-interline Rogers (which should happen ASAP given the crowding on Lexington and the delays it would prevent), you would have just killed all the gained capacity by interlining the again. Jerome has Grand Concourse next door for west side service and connecting the two lines by a junction would probably result in an inefficient flat junction or a slow underground one near the portal. People can just transfer at Yankee Stadium or Grand Concourse- the most I would do would be to add an infill station at 104th/Manhattan to connect to 103rd/CPW to reduce pressure on the at Columbus Circle.
  15. You can also put a letter/number between two parentheses ( (2 ) will go to when there are no spaces between the letter/number and parentheses).
  16. Would it make sense to relocate the 121st stop to stretch from Lefferts-121st from 121st-123rd? You would get a better connection to Lefferts as well as be able to build a short transfer to the Montauk stop if it were ever needed.
  17. The should stay at 148th... you don’t need to further limit capacity by interlining the between 149th-Concourse and 180th. The starting at 148 is there for a reason as it gives Harlem and the UWS emptier trains vs the crowded from the Bronx. As for 145th, extending the platforms is not a priority (you’d probably extend them south), but it should happen eventually for operational simplicity if we can get OPTO.
  18. I personally think that the express track would be better on Jamaica given the sharp curve. As for the lack of an express stop, you could maybe make Cypress Hills an express stop with the design of the old Manhattan els (express track in center above). The track would then stay elevated until Woodhaven (locals would terminate on a center track below the El; the express track would then slope down and reconnect to the locals just east of 104th. The express track would however continue until the end of El in case it is needed for storage purposes.
  19. Assuming the goes to Flatbush and the goes to New Lots via the express while the goes to Utica via the local: you would just run the at the same service pattern at all times (maybe make it local late nights if there isn’t enough express demand).
  20. Does anyone have a list of the current #s and assignments?
  21. You could cut it back to Essex (provided there are four tracks); the only reason why I kept the on Jamaica was to eliminate the need for split service.
  22. Any reorganization of Fulton should have the run out to Euclid via a new tunnel between Hoyt and Whitehall via State Street; SAS capacity is better for Brooklyn and the IND won't help in connections or time as it would require SAS phase 4. The best option IMO is this: (note all Eastern division lines would get 10 car platforms; you would also connect the 6th express tracks to Nassau Chrystie and add a third track between Cypress at Broadway Junction) splits RPK/Far Rockaway rerouted to Fulton; express in Brooklyn and Manhattan south of 50th (you'd install a higher-speed switch to improve merging given how slow the Canal switch is) 179th-WTC via QBL local, 53rd and 8th local Metropolitan- BPB weekdays, 145th weekends, Essex late nights Jamaica Center-205th via Jamaica express between Crescent and Essex (trains would now skip Marcy by re-connecting the center track) express on Hillside/Culver Jamaica Center-Church Av via QBL express, 63rd, 6th local and Culver local extended to 18th Fordham Plaza- CI via 3rd in Bronx/ 2nd in Manhattan; skips 49th 125th/St. Nicholas- CI Astoria- Euclid eliminated Crescent-Bay Ridge via Broadway-Brooklyn local, Nassau and 4th local eliminated new lower level at 72nd- CI via 2nd, 4th express and West End turquoise 72nd lower- Ocean Parkway via 2nd and Brighton express (trains would run to Ocean Parkway as provided that closer switches are installed you could turn more tph than at Brighton due to the absence of a curve)
  23. Given that it can't be converted to subway use due to numerous reasons, I could only see this be reactivated as another line of Triboro RX... (you would have a Jackson Heights-New Utrecht line and a LIC-Jamaica one that would use the Atlantic platforms while the Atlantic branch would become a bypass or something).
  24. I swear it is like the M101... I checked bus time once and there was a NB one at 57th and the next one was at Cooper Union... there were also 3 NB ones clustered between 183rd and 193rd. There were also no NB ones between 99th and 183rd.
  25. Looks like then we have found a neighborhood that it is the epitome of suburbanite-like residents that think they’re too good to use public transport that so many people have discussed on this forum.
