  1. Its not that bad to the point they would cave in. They just have mostly mechanical issues that CAN be fixed but they barely have the time to get to everything due to the fact they need to make service. Again you are pushing hard for Coney to get R211s when they are not the priority right now. Between this and the one that caught fire a few months back. But non of these guys see to get that. And I'm not R46 hater, But I want these fans to keep that same energy that they had for the R32s for the past 12 years for these too. Once that subway car fleet is the oldest in the system, They do not care for it.
  2. Theres proof of R46s being taken OOS for issues. The R211 Protection train which was an R46 died to the point they had to use an R42 at one time. That's not being Over dramatic, Its a fact. They are the oldest fleet now, TA isn't going to give a shit. CIY don't give a shit because they know theirs will be going at some point. Train Operators who are known to like the r46s are now complaining about them having multiple dead motors. The pitkin ones are becoming just as un reliable as the CI ones. Thats not being Over dramatic You can do so much to a subway car that is known to have body rot and bad frames. You can't just put a band aid on bad frames. Those SI R44s are shot and have been rotting for the past 12 years. Also all the R211 info is in this document starting from page 28 https://new.mta.info/document/89781
  3. 3698 38th st yard to somewhere in Orlando, Florida
  4. This is why I laugh at the fans in this transit community, They want to see cuts just for the sake of it not understanding how it would hurt. likes to overscarp equipment and when ridership grows back up, They don't have enough equipment to handle the demand. We had had subway car shortages from 1993 to 2004 and and have one from 2010- to present day. Buses aren't an issue because their replacements come in faster than subway cars. Pre Pandemic there was no excuse on why the and trains running with 4 car and 8 car trains ( Now the is 5 car r160s). Now the is concerned the r211s might be delayed another 6-9 months due to the issues going on with the word when it comes to global supply.
  5. CBTC was just about done on Queens blvd around so they had to transfer the R46s starting in late 2019, Delaying CBTC on QB wouldn't had made sense. Half the time the orange indicator on the R46s don't even work, There were times when R46s had a total of 3 dead motors on one train. This has been the case for both the and lines. People try to deny it because they look at MDBF all the time when that can also be wrong in a lot of cases. But their reliability is really starting to really tank. Before the R32s were removed from service, The R46s were not bad at all with a few exceptions. Its when they took the spares off the and threw them on the is when they started having issues plus having them at Coney added to the issues. The original plan was for the R46s to be on the lines but they changed it to the lines instead on top of getting some R46s (6 sets from pitkin) as the R32s would have taken their place on the hence the projected 2022 retirement date as the expected the R211s to start running in 2021 until the pandemic hit and plans changed.
  6. No the R46s are becoming just as bad as the R32s. Again I rode one on the yesterday and the day before, They don't run the same anymore. Even T/Os are starting to complain about em much more now vs a few years back. hence the reason some people bring up the R32s. When you have low spare factor and run these on the lines as well as the 24/7, It becomes a problem. As i said before, Making the decision to retire the R32s in late 2021 was a dumb idea. Should have just kept them in storage for emergencies only like before until the first R211 hits service and passes the 30 day test. The R46s aren't the only issue, The SIRT R44s are another problem. Those Bodies are beyond shot and are starting to rot even more. we won't see a full replacement until 2024 which is bad alone. People always think everything is fine, Just like in 2009 when i warned people about the R44s and they ended up retiring them because of body rot. Spare factor is a huge issue and when your newest subway cars are coming in slow, It becomes a bigger problem. And I said this before last year, Supply issues and man power are going to be the biggest issues for these cars and the fact this will delay 8th ave CBTC is also going to be a major issue. They should have just kept the R32s restricted to service only and have the run more R179s to bump more R46s to CIY to increase their spare factor. This would have kept them barely reliable but would have worked just like with the R42s. And this is why the R46s should be on the instead of the , Its obvious that by putting them on the The reliability of the R46s would be much better than it is now.
  7. More like 25%. Jamaica was already losing R46s in 2009 to start replacing the R40 slants after Jamaica sent 200 R32s back to 207th st (1st phase was the R32 for R40M/42 transfer, 2nd Phase was just to replace the R38s which took place within 3 months as R160s started pushing R32s to 207th st yard). Then The R160s started pushing out R46s to pitkin yard to replace the R40 slants between March 2009- June 2009. After that Jamaica started replacing R42s starting in mid june 2009 (Phase I R32s were retired in small batches between June and September 2009) and the R40Ms. In September One 10 car train of R32s was transferred to coney Island yard for service due to the Brighton construction. The last R40M was removed in August 2009 (4484/85) and the Last R42 was removed from service in December 2009 leaving just 26 R32s at Jamaica which never retired. They stayed in service during rush hours until may of 2010 when they were transferred to 207th for an exchange for R46s 5798-5822 which were 207th at the time. This was when the original plan was to make the R44/R46s, 207th st had 5798-5821 or more (I forgot) and were going to have 6206-6258 and 5798 to 59xx. Then after the cuts whatever R46s that were on the were transferred to pitkin yard to kill off the remaining R44s. R44s stayed in service for an additional 3 months due to the R32s HVAC issues and summer swap between the which resulted in R44 Trains.
  8. At the time they thought they could fix the R44s issues. The R44s had very good MDBF compared to the other fleets. Its when they saw how bad the body rot was down to the frames is when they made the decision to can the whole fleet. If this was done one year earlier, A chunk of R32s and R42s could have been saved. The r160B option order 2 only replaced half of the R44 fleet since the rest of that order replaced the majority of the R42 fleet and R40M fleet. Half of the R179s fulled the void of the R44s that weren't replaced. The only reason why they got away with losing half the r44 fleet without replacement was because of the being cut and replaced with the . The only required about 3-4 extra trains thus the reason why the R42s had to stay. Then the 2nd ave subway opened 7 years later and everything was spread thin since the needed extra trains. The R211 if all options are taken will fill the car shortage issue unless they sideline 70% the R68 fleet if ridership don't pick up. The Base order R211As will full that void the R32s left ( the R211s replacing 110 R32s, The R179s replaced the other half along with the R42s.) and replace a handful of R46s with option 1 killing off the rest of the R46s. Option 2 is for fleet growth.
  9. They knew about the R44 problems while they were reefing subway cars but they didn't care and thought they could fix the issue until late 2009 when they fount out that the body rot was very bad. The Phase II R32s were retired because they didn't want to spend money on modifying them and etc. At the time they thought by getting rid of them after the CI R42s and R32 GE's was a better choice since their mentality was that all the 60 foot SMEEs were going bye bye and these had worst MDBF vs the Phase I R32 which were planned to be the very last fleet to retire in 2010 but we all knew how that went (They will retire 13 years later) . R38's had bad roofs, R40 slants had bad roofs and rot, R42s were still decent but the CI rebuilds were very unreliable. The R40Ms were very reliable and were in decent shape. They did this whole retirement thing so ass backwards and it bit them in the ass. in 2009 they were retiring Phase I R32s with the R40/42s which was even dumber because they ended up getting rid of about 60 phase I cars that could have been for the instead of using the R42s which they thought they were going to get rid of in 2010 until the going up 6th ave screwed that up. TA wanted the R42s gone even in 2012 when they finished the R32 SMS. They thought by sending 50 R32s to ENY, They could retire the R42s but that didn't go to plan since they R32s MDBF didn't improve even after the SMS. So the R42s stayed on for 8 more years without a proper SMS. Some cars about 24 got a light SMS for the shuttle back in 2017 while the rest didn't.
  10. I was talking about like how the shares cars at its terminal. Not in the yard, I should have worded it better. I know the shares its fleet with the lines in terms of R68s.
  11. That's not happening. There is a reason why the swapped terminals back in 1987, Yard access is important.
  12. prior generations have done the same, Jumping people isn't new. Nothing new, Just animals doing their thing. Anyone who jumps someone is a bitch. Broadway isn't on the roadmap yet which IMO Astoria CBTC should have included Broadway instead of having it from Ditmars to 57th/7th. They need to also de-interline that mess at 34th st before they even think about cbtc on Broadway.
  13. Back then CBTC wasn't a priority and everything was a clusterf**k back then because they decided to retire the Phase II R32s after the CI rebuilt R42s and GE R32s instead of the R40 slants and R38s which were next in line after the CI R42s and GE R32s. Now CBTC dictates where tech trains will go. CI yard or i should say the aren't a priority like the are. These 4 lines have to be fully tech within 4-5 years because of 8th ave CBTC. Astoria CBTC won't start until at least 5 to 7 years later since its probably the last after Crosstown so there is no rush to make those lines all tech trains yet. The shares with the so it would make sense for it to share fleet. The doesn't share its fleet with another line so it doesn't really need brand new trains vs the busier lines. the oldest R160s turn 17 within 3 weeks, Age is a factor in all of this. People just want CIY to get new trains just for the sake of getting new trains when they don't really need anything new. Concourse hasn't gotten anything new in 33 years (R68As were at concourse when brand new) and the base order R211As gotta go to the so they can make those two lines fully tech to prepare for CBTC. This is why I say CIY would end up getting the R160s back instead of getting R211s, It makes more sense. R211s are for high ridership routes like the and lines. Giving Jamaica the 20 R211Ts would make sense because it would allow them to do more testing and getting everyone familiar with the fleet and etc. Giving Jamaica the base order R211As instead of the wouldn't make sense at all. People need to stop thinking "Oh it would be a waste if Jamaica have to transfer those R160s back to CIY" Bullshit when cars are transferred or swapped all the time. No they weren't, They are required for lines that have CBTC or in the process of getting CBTC. That was always the Plan not to directly replace cars on said lines. The just happens to have R46s and in the process of getting CBTC so it goes hand and hand. Broadway isn't getting CBTC any time soon and Astoria CBTC is last in line since Crosstown has more priority. need techs because of CBTC starting at 59th CC and etc. Plans can't really change as much as a lot of you think. The only thing that could change is where any of the 5 car tech trains could end up between the IND lines because of CBTC.
  14. They were slated to get the R211s for a long time. They aren't going to put brand new trains on a Part time . If it has open gangways, They will go to Jamaica for that alone. I know TA is stupid but not that stupid. Giving Coney Island R211s wouldn't make any sense anyway and the only reason they would probably get them is because of politics. When a new car order comes in, Cars get swapped all the time so Jamaica could lose 40 to 50% of their R160s back to coney.
  15. Astoria CBTC is back on the table so It wouldn't make sense to move the to Concourse now anyway since CIY would need CBTC equipped cars for all 3 lines. in 3 years the would need priority for tech trains while whatever is left would be for the until they receive more cars since Astoria CBTC is far out. The can stay at Jamaica, They can handle it. It's not like it was Pre- 2010 when they had all lines in one yard. The is out of ENY yard so that's one less line they have at that yard.
  16. They did about 20 years ago but people want a one seat ride. No one wants the via 4th ave and via Brighton which would be the plan if they went forward with the plan.
  17. The won't get em because its staying at Coney Island. If they are moving forward with Astoria CBTC, It makes sense for the to stay at CI to share its R160s with the . The will be the line that COULD get R211s since its are 24/7 route and the doesn't come out of concourse yard. Jamaica is getting a piece of this order, It wouldn't make any sense to skip over Jamaica when they have the busiest lines in the . It also wouldn't make sense to give concourse R160s while CI get R211s. That would be very dumb since the is a busier line that the combined.
  18. The only thing that will happen is the getting tech trains after the gets theirs. Once Jamaica gets their piece of the R211 order, Those displaced R160s would go to CI for the first then whatever is leftover will be for the . All of this is subject to change. Jamaica probably would get the base order R211Ts for testing until they get the last piece of option order I and the majority of option order II which would make sense.
  19. 3496/97 and 3718/19 to CI or 38th st yard for scrap
  20. Its been two weeks since they been doing that. those are the cars that will be going to scrap.
  21. They run way worse on the than they did on the with the worst cars being on the . I took the R46s on the lines my whole life and when i ride them on the CI routes, They ride a lot worse than when they ran on the . The Pitkin R46s are better than the CI ones.
  22. You realize that there is still a crew shortage right? Also Something could have happened that caused trains to be delayed. Broadway could be 100% tech trains and you would still have the same result.
  23. As Much as I hated those riders for bitching back then, There was a reason. The R42s showing up on the while downstairs had new trains was the tipping point. R46s were taken off the because of slow dwell time in 1991. R32s stayed on the until 7 months after the R160s debuted on the in December of 2008.
  24. I don't think they are but you can run a non cbtc train on a cbtc route. they added back wayside signals on the between broadway junction and 1st ave due to the Carnarsie tube work for work trains to get to and from the work site. so its possible.
  25. So much oh "The deserve techs" on here. Listen, Between here on reddit, Facebook and you tube. It's getting tiring and it shows what type of people you are when it comes to this. The as well as the doesn't have tech trains no more because of Queens CBTC. 8th ave will be getting CBTC, So by default the will need techs and it would make sense for them to just get the R211s instead of r160s from Jamaica. R211s have to test and etc. in queens to make sure there isn't issues before eventually throwing R211s on the lines. The will have to get tech trains by default because of 8th ave CBTC and the fact that it starts at 59th st CC. You people are starting to sound real entitled (Not surprised looking at the neighborhoods it serves) and quite frankly it's getting annoying. The probably would get the R160s back anyway since the needs them for 8th ave CBTC.
