  1. I know, but when the 97's came out, I loved the new lighting scheme, and things continued to get better through the 99's (new LED signs, padded seats, etc). (And you had the Orion V counterpart of these, the 6000's, which I heard were in particularly bad condition). The 96's interiors are nearly identical to the original RTS's of the 80's (but without the Detroit two strokes). So I had looked to see the '97-99's spread out more (like to MTAB), but it seemed NYCT held on to them, passed down only the 96's, and then quickly began scrapping them. (I know there were a few instances of them sending a few to LGA, but they were always brought back). Nearly the same thing occurred with the '94's (with their unique lighting. Thought MTAB still had their nearly identical former PBL '94's). Wonder why they didn't look forward and reha the 97's to 99's instead (especially if they had problems like wheelchair lifts).
  2. Just as it figures; they're getting rid of 99's faster than the [remaining handful of] 96's. Like were those completely GOH'ed (like the old 7000 RTS rebuilds) or something, where they're holding onto them so desperately as if they were new buses? (I know there was a plan to rebuild them, but I never heard of them doing it).
  3. Never knew they were considering that. I always thought of it, when seeing the new SBS schemes, and saying if restoring the two tone blue for those buses, then it would be cool to go back to the green for the expresses. Also curious; with all the new RGB signs coming in, they had made them all the same amber color trying to emulate the monochrome amber of the older signs. But now, it seems they're tinkering with the color, and making it more yellow, some of them almost like a "lemon yellow". Does anyone know why they did that?
  4. They did it to save money. (How much money is beyond me).
  5. They just completed their rush of the 97's into retirement, and now they'll probably get rid of most of the 99's before they ever get rid of those remaining 96's. (Did the 99's have bad wheelchair lifts too?)
  6. This then will be probably be what finally prompts the express service that had been proposed for awhile now anyway (and was supposed to begin when the Culver viaduct was finished).
  7. That must be a mistake, and the incident is at Prince St., at least, If it were at Canal on the local, that would block everything coming from the tunnel and Whitehall. The would be routed over the bridge, and then switch back to the local after Canal . The switches between City Hall and Canal lead to the dead end tracks in the center of Canal. If the incident was Canal on the bridge tracks, that would just affect the bridge traffic and send the and through the tunnel, and the would cross back tot he express after Canal.
  8. I'm not hearing that. I did hear someone joke about two weeks, but that was it. The information is spreading to the news more, and the G.O's are in place for over the weekend for the final prep work where even the shuttle will be replaced by a bus again.
  9. The private section is Austin to Harrow St. I wonder then if they could get away with replacing the Q23 through that section with a van service, that could go straight. The way it has to wind all around to get to Metropolitan is ridiculous.
  10. R44 and 46 in the early 80's were pre-GOH and still had their P-Wire, which was basically the "NTT" of its day. After GOH, it was said they were made to be "LIKE" SMEE, but were still different; especially the 44.
  11. Obviously, when they're tying the new viaduct tracks into the line. Built up new structure to just short of the connection, and laying the tracks now; just have to connect it.
  12. They used to do it like that, and yes, swapping trunk lines is more confusing. So what did they do; swap and crews so that they still go to their regular terminals?
  13. I was on one a few months ago on the B13, and figured it would be my last. It seems they were all rushed out, ahead of the 96's (of which a bunch were actually taken back out of storage awhile ago, and now someone say they're going to be around for at least TWO more years), because of a defective wheelchair lift. Wonder why they didn't just take some lifts out of the 96's then, since that fleet was apparently so much better.

  15. I had heard a rumor about the going to 96th 24/7, and them reversing the (Q)(W) change for the duration, but it's obviously unfounded, and the to 96th is to be weekends only. (not sure if the will run at the same time).
  16. Thing is, the is local, allowing the to run express. The weekend (M)'s stops are completely covered by the (J).
  17. SW entrance of the Broadway station. Boarded up for the construction of the new apts. but never reopened for some reason.
  18. With that mix of colors on one trunk, it's looking like the old Vignelli maps a bit!
  19. When exploring LA years ago, I would generally take the #1 or 2 (Hollywood or Wilshire, IIRC) out, and then transfer to a southbound route, choosing a different one every trip, and thus case the whole city that way. They are pretty long, going from one end to the other, and also ran very infrequently (I remember some being every two hours all day). Traffic wasn't a problem; it's only the freeways that were unbearable.
  20. They apparently haven't updated the bluetooth device that feeds the clocks. It would take time for whatever office is responsible for that to change them, and since it's only a week, they probably won't bother for the two remaining days.
  21. Today, they began running as (J)'s, apparently from a memo put out. The countdownclocks still say (M), though.

  23. There are 2 car AA units and one AB, which were what were used on the years ago, but as said, the purpose for putting them on the in the first place is to make them 600 feet.
  24. Didn't Bombardier manufacture some of the R160 car shells (like the “A” part of the order, IIRC) in Brazil, and they initially had problems (cracks or something) that slowed down the order? (It was around then that it started becoming evident that their quality was falling).
