  1. Maybe they should just get those guys that run the B110 to take over 🤔 https://i.imgur.com/uKYADdx.mp4
  2. Do you mean silver? Because they don't normally use white paint..
  3. Just goes to show, when they're pushed to get something done, they do it. Which means all their inertia over the years has been nothing more than flat-out stubbornness.
  4. Honestly, I'd rather see them use the funds to extend the Nostrand Avenue Line to Kings Plaza Mall. In a time of limited funding, I would say a / extension would be a much better priority as far as SE Brooklyn is concerned.
  5. Aside from the car numbers, main difference is propulsion- R62s are GE and R62As are Westinghouse. That and the R62s are the last type of subway car with the old lighting setup, which is why the lights go out over third-rail gaps. That's certainly unusual, normally it was the R32s on the that had the worst brakes. How things have changed LOL....
  6. From a rational perspective, they should just have the BxM1 as the designated Eastside-Riverdale route; reroute it to Fifth/Madison away from Lex/Third and it could serve Mount Sinai just fine. That way the BxM2 could stay on the West Side; no real point in having two services duplicating within two blocks of each other in the east. If I was trying to get from that part of the Bronx to West Midtown, I definitely wouldn't want to be sitting in traffic on Lexington and East 86th... As to the BxM18, maybe the proposed plan does need some work; getting off the West Side Highway higher up than Chambers with a few stops added along the route would probably be a good start. I do think a redesign has potential, though- with current traffic patterns and conditions being what they are, the current routing of the 18 will always struggle to attract downtown ridership. Of course, all this is assuming we can get back to a non-dystopian state of affairs at some point, if and when this whole coronavirus thing ends...
  7. In all fairness, even without an HOV lane, the West Side north of a certain point doesn't usually get as bad as the Major Deegan. As to riders south of 34th, how exactly would it be affecting them if the bus is traveling along the northern part of the highway? Seems like it would actually get them to their destinations faster, especially if the bus doesn't have to take that meandering loop through Kappock and Johnson, or navigate that badly-coordinated asymmetrical intersection at 230th and Broadway.
  8. Wouldn't be surprised if the bulk of downtown ridership has been killed off by Vision Zero; I can understand side streets being limited to 25 mph or less, but the avenues? A step too far in my opinion. Either that or send the express bus down the highway. Whatever became of that proposal to send the BxM18 across the Henry Hudson Bridge and down the West Side Highway, anyway?
  9. Well I have nothing left to advocate for in that regard; too old for that shit LOL. Besides, the R32s and R42s are gone and what remains just ain't the same; the B Division is now like A Division after the Redbirds left- bland and monotonous.
  10. I'd say more people favor EWR over JFK at this point, at least for international flights- unlike Kennedy, Newark doesn't leave you waiting 2-1/2 hours to get through customs. That incident several years ago was the last straw for me. Strangely I've been able to dodge a lot of bullets at LGA over the years- the M60 can be a PITA sometimes, but it beats the Q10 slogging down Lefferts as far as I'm concerned.
  11. To me, the cardinal flaw of the Nassau Line was the BMT building it way too close to the IRT; had it turned south at Allen or Christie Streets instead, I suspect that SAS Phase 4 wouldn't even be a thing.
  12. Micromanager would be an understatement; Cuomo is a Trump-like bully with an overinflated ego who, like Donald, got to where he is in life solely on his father's coattails. It speaks volumes that Andy Boy's own party is turning on him, stripping his emergency powers and initiating an investigation that may possibly lead to impeachment.
  13. All valid points, though I think it is something the BMT accounted for; their original plans for the Crosstown Line back in the late 1910s essentially called for an el branching off from the Astoria line and tying into the Franklin Ave Line onwards to Brighton. In fact, had the line been routed to run between Astoria and Brighton Beach and/or Coney Island, I think it would've been more useful than the current setup- never made much sense to me that the current Crosstown line makes that westward swing from Marcy onto Lafayette, and having trains terminate at Smith-9th station of all places never made any sense at all.
  14. Not necessarily; before 1949-51 Queens Plaza originally had four tracks and two platforms on each level, so the option to keep the Manhattan-bound track of the Flushing Line on the upper level and out of the way definitely existed back then.
  15. I always wondered why they never built a Culver-style connection between the Crosstown and the Astoria line in the '40s or '50s; would certainly make getting between Brooklyn and the M60 to LGA easier.
  16. Yeah, the short-turns at Canal have existed for many years if memory serves me correctly; I reckon if they simply finished the lower level at City Hall, they could send trains there instead of Whitehall- three tracks, two platforms, less interference with trains to/from Brooklyn. Would make more sense than getting rid of the outright (don't know when exactly that idea came up, put people on here keep talking about it). Only other option I see would be to end Broadway service through the Montague tubes and send the to Bay Ridge, but I can't imagine such a service being too popular outside of rush hours. Not to mention Broad Street has the same problem as Whitehall- one train terminating in the path of another coming into and out of Montague. Seems like a lose-lose situation either way.
  17. Considering all the time it takes to set the closing and reopening processes in motion, closing the system for 120 minutes is a blatant waste of money.
  18. Without a doubt, the status quo in SW Queens is terrible (if I had a dollar for every time the Q38 or Q67 failed to deliver, I'd have a small loan of a million dollars), but the proposals definitely don't do much to fix the fundamental issues; unless the planners go back to the drawing board and take a closer look at the street grid and ridership destinations, I don't think much will change for the better. I still can't wrap my head around the whole concept of a route going from Middle Village to Roosevelt Island, of all places. If they really wanted to fix up service in the area, the logical thing to do would've been rerouting the Q39 to Woodside instead of Queens Plaza, straightening out the Q67 to get rid of all the twists and turns on the western half of the route, and split the Q38 (a route from Fresh Pond to Queens Mall, another one to Forest Hills).
  19. I don't, but the realist in me says things will get worse before they get better; it will be at least 10 years before large scale improvements become financially feasible again. Bear in mind that the MTA was already heavily burdened by debt before March 2020- the coronavirus was simply the straw that broke the camel's back.
  20. The whole Queens redesign draft was/is an unmitigated disaster. The plans they released for southwest Queens (Ridgewood, Glendale, Maspeth, Middle Village) look like they were drawn up by someone who has never ridden a bus nor even set physical foot in that area. I mean really, a route blending the Q38, Q39, and Q67; and a route connecting Roosevelt Island with Middle Village... Whose ass are they pulling these ideas out of?
  21. Yes, it's pure bullshit; lot of the business refusing to accept cash were/are simply using the coronavirus as a convenient excuse because they would rather not deal with cash in the first place.
  22. Can't be worse than the filthy air I encountered just walking on the street in Los Angeles and Houston. I wonder how many respiratory illnesses that brown cloud of perpetual smog causes.
  23. Not directed at you, but definitely directing it at the people in bold is what I'm saying.
  24. Yup. Of course, why they would pick the character of a delusional Vietnam vet-turned-cabdriver, for a bus announcement, is simply beyond me. What's next, Col. Kurtz from Apocalypse Now?
