N-Trizzy2609 Posted October 29, 2010 Share #1 Posted October 29, 2010 New SEPTA rail cars to have maiden run in Philadelphia By Paul Nussbaum Inquirer Staff Writer The first of SEPTA's long-awaited Silverliner V railcars will roll into service Friday with a celebratory morning commute into Center City. A train of three new cars is scheduled to arrive at Suburban Station shortly before 9:30 a.m., with the first paying customers aboard. SEPTA officials will celebrate the completion of the first paying trip with a ceremony at Track 0 at Suburban Station at 9:30. The three cars are the first of 120 ordered by SEPTA, at a cost of $274 million. Legal disputes and production delays have held up delivery of the Silverliner V's, which will replace 73 railcars built in the 1960s. All of the new cars, built in South Korea and finished at a plant in South Philadelphia, are now supposed to be in service by the middle of 2011. Shortline Bus Posted October 29, 2010 Share #5 Posted October 29, 2010 Nice article. Do you know which routes it will run on? I'm planning on riding the R7 to Philly in the near future. Actually FG SEPTA no longer use numbers for the regional rails lines ie R1-8. Instead similar to the LIRR/Metro North they renamed the lines for the coordior they run on it, i.e Wilimington, Del, Trenton, etc. Good news to hear about this new cars now in service on SEPTA. metsfan Posted November 3, 2010 Share #13 Posted November 3, 2010 Hey, just wondering, when you rode, did it still have new car smell? Also, the trucks eing used have a 100% proven "track" record on the entire system for 40 years, no need to change it. Improvement over the (NJT) arrow 3 trucks that's for sure. - A
metsfan Posted November 3, 2010 Share #14 Posted November 3, 2010 Yo, I don't care what my plans are, if I see it at Trenton I'm riding to levitown & back if I see this set. Will also look for it at Levittown. - A

Amtrak7 Posted November 20, 2010 Share #17 Posted November 20, 2010 I might be in the Philly area for Thanksgiving Holiday weekend so anyone knows the schedule of these new Silverliner V trains running on either the Trenton(former R-7 line)or even the West Trenton (formerly the R-3)on Saturday 11/27/10? Too bad, look at the bottom of this page: http://septa.org/service/rail/silverliner.html The Silverliner V will not run November 25 through November 28. They not run on the West Trenton Line yet probably won't until deliveries start.
Forest Glen Posted November 20, 2010 Share #18 Posted November 20, 2010 At least SEPTA tells you when new equipment is running. When the Nova LFSA first came out, I waited an hour for them.

Forest Glen Posted January 10, 2011 Share #20 Posted January 10, 2011 Just out of curiosity, I went to SEPTA's website to see if the Silverliner V's were running. They're not running this week, probably due to the inclement weather. I only hope that they're running on March 5th when I head to Philly.
