SirJokaPlaya Posted April 11, 2011 Share #51 Posted April 11, 2011 Again, that's my view. And that's not counting the local lines. Local lines like the 83, 84, 85, 87, 80, 770, 74, 1, 25, 70, 11, 28. Those are lines that I have either driven or been on personally. Those lines carry. As for the 139, I never worked a weekend 139 so I have no clear idea. And that would get NJT into major trouble since NJT uses Federal Dollars to fund the purchase of buses for public transportation ONLY, not for Charters. Academy would be screwing NJT if caught. Pablo M 201 Posted April 12, 2011 Share #55 Posted April 12, 2011 Lets get real, Academy is not the only ones doing this. The Coach USA operators, Lakeland, and Decamp do it. Academy is not stupid, they know full well what they're doing. Their pull in New Jersey Transit is powerful....

Academy is not stupid, they know full well what they're doing. Their pull in New Jersey Transit is powerful.... I just dont think that they should be using those buses for there charter services. Those buses are for Commuter Service, if not using em for that sole purpose then give them back. I see Coach USA Buses in Bridgeton/Vineland with NJT markings all the time on Charter Service. As you said Academy has high pull in NJT. But I do realize Academy may not have the funds to purchase a mass fleet of buses. DeCamp, a family owned business iirc may not have the funds either to purchase a mass fleet. I feel Academy should have better service to take that stress off NJT along route 9 and spilt full 139 runs. Most of Academy runs go express if not all. Academy version of the 319 is basically Casino Service and I see NJT Buses used on those AC runs daily. IIRC there was a time when something went wrong with the Atlantic City Rail Line and Academy provided buses to get those people where they needed to go. Academy is not stupid, they know full well what they're doing. Their pull in New Jersey Transit is powerful.... All private companies that take buses from the state for commuter purposes do it. The question remains "Is Academy shortchanging the commuters to focus on charter/shuttle work?" IMO, they aren't. I see plenty of Js working commuter duty in the PABT. Yeah they throw some 18xx series out there too,but not that often. NJT knows what's going on and if there was a big problem Academy would not have those buses much longer. The problem is their commuters are VERY bitchy. They want new buses now when there is nothing wrong with the current fleet. They want the the buses on schedule to the minute....but seem to forget they travel in one of the heavily traveled corridors in the US, so yes the buses are gonna be late. Academy could be doing a bit better about how they handle the crowds and delays in the PABT, but every company down there has the same problems. What I foresee happening is what happened in Connecticut, the NJT will still buy buses for the private carriers but they will be in NJT color scheme and only be allowed for use on commuter runs. BZGuy Posted April 14, 2011 Share #64 Posted April 14, 2011 so conncecicut buses on even the contract express routes all have CTtransit logo??? and not the contractor's own buses. To go off topic, yes that is what happened. Every company that does commuter work for CTDOT has abused the privilege here and there. There are still non-DOT buses doing commuter work but the state wants that cut down to the minimum. It always gonna happen, at DATTCO and Peter Pan/Arrow, after doing their AM commuter most drivers go on charters or casino line runs and return just in time for PM commuters. In fact Arrow gave back the new D4500CTs because it made it very difficult to schedule drivers and buses throughout the day, so they got more (ugh) J models from mainline Peter Pan, but at some point the state is gonna put a stop to that, they want a uniform,CTTransit commuter fleet! It stopped alot of the complaints about the conditon of the buses and thats why I can see NJT doing the same deal if more complaints keep rolling in. This is why it is "allowed" and if this model were applied elsewhere, there would be more service coverage.

Those people are always going to complain about something, even the littlest of things. They are not pleased unless everything is perfect and goes their way. qjtransitmaster Posted April 29, 2011 Share #69 Posted April 29, 2011 what purpose does the 819 serve? feeder to Rail lines like some sort of crosstown bus to RVL and NEC however I would merge the line with a regional if I controlled it

DaTransitMan4608 Posted April 30, 2011 Author Share #71 Posted April 30, 2011 If Academy is using NJT's MCIs for Charters then NJT should go to Perth Amboy or Hoboken (wherever Academy keeps those MCIs) and take them back. Academy has enough J4500s and 102-DL3s to run their Charters. Also they can take 8951+8952 and give them to Egg Harbor (that would hook you up 553)
