R32 3352 Posted August 27, 2011 Share #1 Posted August 27, 2011 Well, the NYC Subway system, for the first time in 107 years, will purposely shut down the NYC Transit System. Any thoughts? -Nick
R68 Subway Car Posted August 27, 2011 Share #2 Posted August 27, 2011 Wow. Just Wow. Think of this. We have had massive snowstorms, 9/11 and an earthquake, and none of those could shut down this system. Hurricane Irene has clearly made some history. sovetskii52 Posted August 27, 2011 Share #5 Posted August 27, 2011 This is NOT the 1st time the subway has shut down completely. There was an 11-day transit strike in 1980, so the entire system shut down for over a week. so, this is the 2nd time the subway has fully shut down. Very true. Even techincally being, a 'cat. 1' storm it so different in fact she so 'big' and sadly I am not talking weight/body size. Irene would be as strong as a cat. 2 when she hits NYC late saturday.

This is the first time they've ordered a shutdown of the subway system. @jimmy: Don't act so blasé about this. A hurricane is a hurricane is a hurricane, no matter how weak. The I Man Posted August 29, 2011 Share #15 Posted August 29, 2011 This is NOT the 1st time the subway has shut down completely. There was an 11-day transit strike in 1980, so the entire system shut down for over a week. so, this is the 2nd time the subway has fully shut down. And don't forget the blackouts of 1965, 1977 and 2003.
GojiMet86 Posted August 29, 2011 Share #16 Posted August 29, 2011 It's the first time they've intentionally shutdown the system, and not have something else shut it down.
