N88 to Jones Beach still running for the summer.

They do charge beachgoers in LB $5 or so to access the beach.  At least with the JB88 people could just use that bus and bypass the tolls for the parking fields.

My proposal was NICE to run service from Long Beach to Jones Beach. A poster replied that the beach is two blocks from the train station. I mentioned Lido Beach as an alternative.

(MTA) is offering a LIRR Jones Beach package: http://www.mta.info/.../JonesBeach.htm . Funny how they tell you to go to the NICE website for the N88 schedule, and there's still nothing up there with 3 days to go.

Just like the service alerts and hearings, always last minute so they have an excuse to say no one rode it and axe it...

That's definitely what they're doing here. Not only will people not ride the bus because Veolia hasn't released N88 information yet, but there will be more cars on the Meadowbrook since people who plan ahead will not know if the bus is running, and will instead drive. I know I sound like Piney here, but I wouldn't be surprised if Mangano or someone else high-up in the county government is telling Veolia to not release the schedules yet so the ridership will sink and they can decide to cut the N88. I'm sure Robert Moses is looking down with a smile, since the parkway will probably soon be bus-free just as he wanted.

Do you know the REAL reason Moses didn't want buses on the parkway?

P.S. I don't know why formatting symbols show up when I reply to a post.

I said that earlier. That's most likely why the n23/27 changes were made. Watch them make n27 a full time Roslyn-Glen Cove. They're most likely gonna cut the n21 and n78 because reduction in service slashed ridership on the routes greatly...

1 day to go (or does it start tomorrow?), no schedules. Now I'm positive that they want to have an excuse to cut this. Look Veolia / Nassau, people going out to Jones Beach by bus / LIRR need to make plans for their trip, and traffic is going to be REAL bad as it is going to Jones Beach this weekend, so why not release the damn schedule? If they advertise the N88 already, the route will probably get a good amount of ridership, and the BIG thing is that there will be less cars on the Meadowbrook. As much as this county government hates public transit, the N88 has gotta be the route with some of the highest ridership during the summer, so why even think about cutting it? Traffic to Jones Beach is awful any weekend, and the bus definitely should be there as an alternative to ease congestion a bit. If the county government cares so much about people who drive cars, then they should be advertising the N88 by now since the people in cars will have to wait less time in traffic going to the beach.

Maybe there won't be any bus service to the beach this weekend. I'm sure the cabs will love it.

I called NICE. There DEFINITELY is bus service this weekend even though it seems to be a secret.

The N88 was actually the most cost-efficient route in the system. On the weekends, it actually makes money for them, so I don't see why they would be trying to cut it.

Because during the week, the buses run often with not many people going to the beach. 5 days of low ridership a week doesn't pay off with 2 days of good ridership a week.

The N88 has been added to the public transportation in Google Maps. The N88 only works if you set up the route on a weekend, not weekday. It shows taking the N62, then a cab to Jones Beach LOL. It didn't work for Memorial Day, but it showed up whenever I tried a weekend date. I see around 20-30 minutes (between each run) service on the N88. Check out the link below:

FINALLY, it's official, the N88 is running! Schedules can be found at:

http://nicebus.com/M.../n88/index.html

I stop by at Freeport Station and not schedule brochure, but that's only for Weekend Schedule.

I got copy of computer side print out of N88 schedules at Freeport Station before going back on N43.

Weekday service begins AFTER public schools close.

That's what I've always thought, especially with the N87.

Actually, now that I think about it, the N88 might've performed alright on the weekdays. I think the cost per passenger was $2.69 on weekdays and $1.15 on weekends. I forget what it was for the N87, but it was definitely higher.

Below is information from the 2011 (MTA) docket on the N88.

Customer Impact*: An average of 440 weekday customers, 1,270 Saturday customers, and 1,120 Sunday customers in the summer would be impacted. There would be no proximate alternates.

Cost per Passenger: Weekdays: Total: $7.86, Direct Operating: $5.07

Saturdays: Total: $2.82, Direct Operating: $1.82

Sundays: Total: $3.33, Direct Operating: $2.15

Passengers per Trip: Weekdays 9

Saturdays: 24

Sundays: 20
