Transportation to the new "Mall at Bay Plaza"

How will the buses be routed with the new mall coming to Bay Plaza?

Also, instead of building even MORE shopping at the old miniature golf course, can a new extension of the 6 train be built? This would go over the grass and the hutch parkway to terminate at the old golf course. The stop would include an overpass walkway to Bay Plaza (similar to that which is located at Pelham Bay Station). Yes, the walkway would have to be built over the I-95. What are the logistics and would it be at all possible? Station could be entitled, "Bartow Avenue/Bay Plaza".

Would a T train (second avenue line) be more practical for the Bronx and Co-op City residents travelling to Manhattan (versus a Metro North line)?

I would assume any plans for bus routes in the immediate area would be better determined when the property is at or near full development. There are many variables to take into consideration, such as any street improvements or if the property would have a designated location for buses to stop at, and furthermore would the MTA be willing to work with the conditions presented or prefer to keep service similar to now.

As for any elevated subway service the geographical logistics of the area make it very impractical, not to mention expensive. An underground extension would make more sense in that regard, but There would still be the challenge of dedicating funds.

I'm pretty sure the (MTA) is gonna go SBS for the new Mall instead of getting the subway there.

The (MTA) will most likely create a new local bus route to take people from the subway to the new mall, or extend an exisiting high perforing bus route to the Mall at Bay Plaza.

You come out of Pelham Bay Park station, make a slight left to join the route of I-95 and just go straight. Build it over the median, like Airtrain JFK. Not that hard logistically. Station by the malls, station next to Co-op city.

That would be really stupid. This is gonna be a new line with a new routing to/in the mall, this is *the* ultimate chance to create a SBS line from scratch, doing it right from the get-go.

Right, but it would also be absolutely silly for the MTA to create a new SBS route just for a shopping mall (and considering how long it takes to get one of those approved, that's not happening).

The Bx12 already runs two distinct patterns during the summer months. Do we really need a third?

Hey, the Bx12 had 4 at one time during the summer (Inwood to Co-Op, Inwood to B. Mansion, Inwood to Orchard Beach, Inwood to City Island).

The current Bx12 set-up during the summer is three patterns btw.

SBS: Inwood to Co-Op City, Inwood to Orchard Beach

Local: Fordham to Pelham Bay.

There's no need to expand anything. This should about cover it soon...http://www.thetransportpolitic.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/PSAS.png
That all depends on East Side Access. And East Side Access is delayed once again. Bus service to this new plaza is a better choice like extending the Bx12.

And we ain't seeing the (6) going nowhere beyond Pelham Bay Park anytime soon.

If the mall is gonna be used by a lot of commuters then the idea is not that silly. And sure, it might take a while for it to get approved but fact is: this is *the* oppurtunity to said up a new SBS route done right and they could ve already started the talks if they d also saw that.

No, it's like bobtehpanda said.

There are only two patterns. The SBS runs the normal route to Co-Op City and the local runs between to Orchard Beach (although on the weekend, every other bus runs to Inwood)

The SBS ran to Orchard Beach during its inaugural summer, but it was curtailed for this simpler service pattern.

See, that's the number one problem; no one actually knows how popular this mall is going to be, and there's already a shopping area at Bay Plaza.

This is sort of like how everyone thought the Shops at Atlas Park were going to be some sort of huge commercial magnet for transit riders, but the mall turned out to be a dud.
