Omg guys I'm #79xx and got called for medical with a tentative may 22 start date!...I'm hearing alot about neck size? Anyone has any idea?

Bigger neck size means the chances of you having sleep apnea are higher,  they measure your neck size during medical

Just went for mine and got placed on medical hold for high chances of sleep apnea 😮‍💨🫤. I’ll post updates here. It’s pretty straight forward for med though, vision test, hearing test, ekg, urine and blood pressure. When you go in to see the doctor they assault you a lil bit. Lol.

😂  I was already nervous before I even went in, then he was like pull your pants down below your navel 🫢😮‍💨. They had to check my belly apparently. After that, I thought they were going to blind me. He had the light in my eyes for mad long looking for what I don’t know. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Hope some one can answer this...do conductors stand all day while on a train or is there an optional seat for you to sit on while on duty?

The T/O's can sit while operating the train and since they share the same cabs nowadays, conductors are more than free to sit while the train moves to the next station but they have to stand when checking the platform to open the doors.

The neck size I heard is common here but I never got checked so I guess they don't bother with the obvious ones with a smaller neck.. EKG, blood pressure and weight is also normally helped with determining sleep apnea when I went to a specialist  a while back

This is a 24 hour business. You can literally end at any time of day. You might start at 13:11 and end at 22:58 or start at 3am and sit around on board, get a job at 10am and work until 6pm. Everything and anything can happen in your day here, but they won't let you go past 16 hours. Best is when you end in far Rockaway but your car is at 207 Street Manhattan and you can't get there because the switch is broken in Brooklyn. 🤣

I’m going for the OPA Friday, I’m not sure what I’ll be walking into. Any ideas of what I should expect? Thanks

U gotta bring ya admission letter, valid ID and get a $25 money order from the postal office. For the first session you'll be in a class with several ppl. You gonna have an answer sheet which u bubble in your info just like when you took the conductor test. For the test, Theyll have a CD playing, it'll be like 4 different announcements btwn and dispatcher and conductor, and u have to pay attention to the details of the convo. For Each ONE announcement, you'll have to answer 5 questions from a booklet they will give u, to answer based on what you heard. So in total it'll be 20 questions. They'll pause the CD after each dispatch, and u have 2 mins to answer the 5 questions.

Second session is about 5 to 10 mins..you'll be interviewed by someone and they'll record your answers. The questions are based on the pictures in the booklet in front of u. They'll basically ask u what would you do in each situation.

No. Conductors are NOT permitted to sit down anymore. There was an incident where the conductor fell asleep when they were at a station. I think it was after that incident they came with that rule. If a conductor DOES pull out the seat and sit down, they’re doing so at their own risk.

You have the bulletin for this? I've yet to hear this one.  Some conductors fall asleep standing up.

Does anyone know which style or Brand of boot to order from the Saguard site . Like does it have to be steel toe or not.

They're only going to list things that you're allowed to have. Don't worry about it You can order anything on there.

In prior jobs and this one, I've been wearing caterpillar boots (steel toe for NYCT) for over 13 years and find them durable and comfortable, although they usually need a different insole..

Get whatever you think you like, but make sure you return it fast if you don't like it.... I made the mistake of ordering a second set (tried a new brand) and waiting too long and now I just have a pair of boots sitting here that I hate.

Our TSSs were easy going on the boots.. If you do get a pair you don't like and you need to return them, talk to them and tell them. Don't just show up the next day in tennis shoes because the transit boots hurt your feet. Lol talk to them first and they'll let you know how to approach that.
