MJHmarc Posted January 26 Share #7027 Posted January 26 The MTA president official word about the R211T only running on a “local line“ of the ‘C” line is just by choice, saying that it’s a new model that has never ran on this system before and they feel it’s safer “for now “ to only run it on a local line such as the “C” line. https://www.youtube.com/live/xGnokEK-ypM?si=YMb6SsonH-akdza_

U-BahnNYC Posted January 27 Share #7040 Posted January 27 Can someone explain to me how (lack of) "smoke alarms" pose a problem for the R211 running express? Correct me if I'm wrong but the R46/R68 do not have any smoke alarms to speak of onboard (with the amount of people smoking on trains nowadays I have not once heard a smoke alarm go off), and are arguably far more dangerous death traps because the storm doors are LOCKED and do not always open in emergencies. Why are the R46/R68 ever allowed to run if they are that unsafe, but the R211T's are somehow a safety hazard??

Second, the R211Ts make it easier for smoke to travel between cars within sets.

Again, because you CAN'T isolate (lock out) a single car in a 5-car open gangway set. If one car experiences a smoke situation, all 5 cars are then directly affected.
Lawrence St Posted January 29 Share #7046 Posted January 29 This may sound like a dumb question, but isn’t there a switch that closes the open gangway’s with a curtain or something? I thought I saw that somewhere in YouTube.

If a fire breaks out, The fire would quickly spread to the entire 5 car section. Since CPW express is a very long stretch, They can't run in that section as well as a section in Brooklyn. Since didn't spec these cars to have fire suppression systems, they are restricted in a lot of ways.
