Paul P Posted March 10, 2009 Share #1 Posted March 10, 2009 Some official press release current as of 3/9/09 08:34PM From NY1 After several delayed openings, MTA officials on Monday said the South Ferry station will finally open next Monday. The station has been closed since December so a new and improved station could be built for the number 1 train. An inspection at the station in January found the gap between the train and the platform was about an inch wider than federal regulations allow. The construction, funded mostly with federal dollars, is part of a $530 million project to help rebuild Lower Manhattan.

FamousNYLover Posted March 12, 2009 Share #14 Posted March 12, 2009 I cannot wait for new one. I'll also visit Five Car Only South Ferry this weekend to take pictures with dispersal camera. I also plan to take picture of train. Yesterday after I got off at Whitehall St, from hole, I spotted new subway mezz, well as booth. After I exit, I spotted hole by payphone. I will also miss watching train using inner loop. I hope OpenHouse New York could make old South Ferry Station part of free tour event.

To bad Bowling green cant also do the same, so people can access 7th Ave/Lex lines Bowling Green is actually quite far from South Ferry to the point where a shuttle ran between them until 1977. a transfer would be kinda pointless since you can transfer between the and in brooklyn or at Fulton Street two stations north. MTR Admiralty Posted March 13, 2009 Share #17 Posted March 13, 2009 I will also miss watching train using inner loop. Oh yeah, will the 5 use the outer loop to turn trains when the 1 is sent to the new tunnel?

Maserati7200 Posted March 14, 2009 Share #20 Posted March 14, 2009 What's the fate of the outer loop? Probably the same as the City Hall loop (minus trains turning around): just sitting there.

MTR Admiralty Posted March 15, 2009 Share #24 Posted March 15, 2009 Now according to Strappie, it's 12pm. Well perhaps the last train to enter the old station is 12... the ribbon cutting ceremony would probably take place earlier.

Or reopen the Bowling Green-SF Shuttle. I mean whats the point of keeping the Old Shuttle Platform closed, when you can have a train loop SF on the and then connect service for the and Shuttle? For Lex, 7th and Bway.. Now thats a good idea.. idc if no one agrees with me lol __________________ Anyways last day of Ferry loop, today or AM tomo! RIP I took my last view yesterday! GOnna up tomo!
