  1. The MTA gets what 15 million no matter what. Why would they shoot themselves by choosing the busiest? In fact if it were up to me I'll choose the least busiest, like the Bx24 or something
  2. Some of the services listed above are already "fare optional". I mean how many people actually pay for the S46 that is not already coming from Whitehall? probably closer to 0 than 50% Current taxes provides the service. If you want free fare, MTA still gets the money, instead of from you directly, from the government, which gets the additional money needed from you indirectly So you pay extra no matter what
  3. Maybe I am biased but my top priority would be the IBX or the Rockaway beach Branch reactivation Even more than the SAS. I mean outer borough subway service is terrible and inefficient because they all go through Manhattan and bus service that exist between Bronx, Queens and Brooklyn all run into traffic and runs in mixed traffic at that. Having something connecting at minimum Queens and Brooklyn in Central Queens/Brooklyn would do wonders in creating new employment opportunities and new commuting patterns than the hub and spoke system we have currently
  4. That is not correct at all Only the station box is dug up with the mezzanines. New tunneling will still be required for the line between stations. Plus if we put in an express track on the mezzanine,we wil;l need to redo the station exits/stairs, elevator placements? We will need to redo essentially the entire station and lines. Lex/63rd was designed with the SAS in mind, hence they left active OOS tracks/platforms on the BMT side of the line The problem is that MTA projects cost way too much. I mean 7.7 Billion dollar for a couple of miles of subway and that is with a very significant portion of tunneling done in the 1970s. Honestly I think a set up similar to 21 Street - Queensbridge is enough
  5. Very excited to see the schedules for these new route. SCT is putting a lot of extra money into the system with this redesign Even more excited to see the pulse operations at Brentwood/Wyandanch/Patchogue/Smith Haven Mall
  6. Why should anyone pay the fare then at this point Morals shouldn’t be the only thing keeping people paying
  7. They actually have security at HTC, that can and do kick passengers off the bus which includes the refusal of payment of fares Some NICE drivers don’t care but most still do about farebeating. This is compared to MTA where the service is essentially free. How about having a rotation of police just roam the system and actually hand out tickets. But no, let’s increase the fare instead… keep milking it out of the remaining paying ridership they keep taking about the blue ribbon report, but nobody knows when want to begin enforcing the fare
  8. Even in this pipe dream scenario, there will still be no extension of the subway further into Queens/Staten Island How about... Extending the or to Rochdale and St Albans and build a real terminal there where the switches are in the proper locations How about extending the to Francis Lewis Blvd with a stop at 188th Street. I don't think I am thinking very big here. You could completely reconfigure bus routes if you have these extension, saving millions in operating costs, and reducing the amount of buses you need to run into Parson/Archer and 165th. Shoot why not also extend the to Grasmere while we are at it since we have the Red Hook proposal. Would serve much more people and save them time than extending the train to Red Hook. Again not expecting any of these 20 years to even happen (perhaps the SAS phase II won';t even be completed in 20 years), but if we are dreaming, why dream small
  9. For me I use Woodside so it works for me most of the times, LIRR has weird gaps in service every hour. But for people who live in areas with lower frequency they will have to time their trains. Overall the system is not frequent enough to completely coordinate. You may or may not get a convenient MNR/LIRR connection once you get to GCM
  10. Freehold "mall" is a joke. I made the mistake in getting off there once, never will do that again. Used more as a kiss and ride than an actual destination
  11. I believe they closed the indoor portion of Sunrise Mall already. All remaining stores have outdoor entrances The only benefit for Sunrise Mall is the transfer to SCT these days, and I'm not sure many people transfer out that way anymore (atleast compared to LIB days). All the n55/54 I been on always empty out at Uniondale by that Walmart. Everything east of that is all coverage. Maybe one time people used the buses out there, either as a feeder or to go to the mall but now It doesn't matter if the bus uses Washington or Broadway, both lost its core ridership a long time ago. The n71 I do agree not all trips need to go to Farmingdale State, but I would still keep the majority of service there. My experience is that there are still ridership along the stops on Rt 110 either from SCT or walk ups, but significant enough that I feel like the justification is still there. Kind of ironic since that is one area where NICE actually improved service from the old (real n70) (along Rt 110 that is). What used to be taking a system of routes, n95, n70 taking Nassau residents to job areas along the Rt 110 (Newsday, Melville Quad), we are now left with only one service ending at Farmingdale State that students rarely use.
  12. NICE went too far in trying to attract the LIRR ridership base with this express concept. It seems obvious, NICE is primarily aiming this service to be fast for train riders to compete with the LIRR. It isn't the first time too, with the botched 2012 n6x change It would help if the n22x would start making stops along OC road east of RF Mall up to where the old Source Mall was to serve the numerous shopping areas in that area. Running it non-stop from Hicksville does no favors to people coming from Mineola, Queens nor Hicksville who could've benefited from this limited direct service to these shopping destinations, which they lost with the split of the n24 (which sometimes doesn't even time well with each other) I agree, If NICE would stop trying to compete with the LIRR, the n24x would be a more suitable candidate for a limited stop service, to speed up service along Jericho in Floral Park, NHP. You could still extend to serve Hicksville and RFM. Would perhaps even keep it on Herricks Road, so it would skip Mineola Blvd/Willis Ave for these express trips
  13. It works for me because I no longer need to take the subway into Manhattan and take Metro North. I get a faster trip as well as a cheaper fare if I am going far. I wish City Ticket allowed a transfer at Grand Central. Queens - Bronx really need better transit. LIRR - MNR if the schedules time up, at least will provide a faster trip
  14. I much rather they increase the amount of service versus a higher capacity transit. Remember when they increased service from 40ft to artics, MTA usually cut the amount of service on that route to compensate for the increased capacity
  15. If your boss doesn't like the work you do, can you he/she just not pay your wage? Stealing is stealing. If people don't like the service they should walk. If they think the service is crappy contact your elected official
  16. It's a slap in the face to the poor that actually pay, when someone with the newest phones and good sneaker don't pay while they do. People don't pay because there are no consequences. Period. The people who pay are essentially paying twice, through taxes and the fare, while people who don't pay get their fare portion subsidized by the rest of us that pays. Call it a donation. Fare beating is so bad on Staten Island that some bus operators just open both doors at stations. Cause why not, nobody pays anyways. I don't have a issue with the fare raising, it just feel like a slap in the face to people who pay (more now), while watching others get it for free, with no consequences. Where are the undercover police program? That was a really big deterrent because people will always be cautious. They also could ride the S74 and S79 all day and fine people of all colors and race.
  17. It's a place with heat over the winter and A/C over the summer, if have nowhere else to go it's probably more preferable because you are not exposed to the element like sleeping on the street
  18. Fare beating exists because there are no consequences. Period. If food at the grocery stores were free to take, nobody will pay. Not the poor, not the rich, maybe some will donate. We essentially operate the transit system based on a donation model today Question: If you weren't a transit fan, why would you pay? Nobody else does At no point in time will free transit EVER save money, not for one day, not for one hour. It will always be a revenue loss, with no benefits to anyone. I much prefer more service over free service. More subway service on weekends, more buses more often to more places. This free thing has to stop, its nothing but brainless progressive politicians trying to act like they care, in reality they have no plan to improve the system other than that Woah that quite an escalation. The thing is when you have the armed guards out with even the person fixing the machine, that enough will deter most of the fare beaters already. What they really need is undercover plain clothes police officers standing near the turnstiles catching people like they used to. This way people have no clue if there is a police officer at the station, and they will always have to be more aware that there is a chance they will be caught. Currently you see a police, you can just go to another entrance
  19. In addition OMNY weekly cap will be on a rolling basis instead of fixed Mon - Sun For LIRR/MNR off peak "discount" will be set uniformly at 26% (MNR offers 25% and LIRR offers 27% right now) (LIRR is notoriously overpriced so that is probably why). Which means LIRR will have a higher off peak price increase and MNR a lower one Express bus will be $7, compared to local buses being at $2.90. % increases will always impact modes with higher prices No impact on fares for the 37% of the passenger and growing on buses and 15% on the subway who currently pay a reduced fare of $0 by refusing to donate to the MTA with no consequences
  20. I don't think it is happening now. The union blocked it But more than that I think it was to hide the fact that they are cutting much more substantially service on Monday and Friday on other routes, routes that are much more heavily used than the lines mentioned above on weekends.
  21. Oh its not just mobile ticket that required scanning, most drivers (at least the ones I ridden) require you to scan your paper one way ticket as well. You would scan it, and then they would collect it. On the rail side, conductors also have scanners, I wonder what happen to people who still have tickets from years ago that didn't have a QR code (I still have one)
  22. I experienced those scanners more and more, even a couple of months ago, we would just wave it to the driver, now it seems like we are required to scan every time we board the bus, including at PABT
  23. I moved between train cars for this exact reason. A police officer was in the other car, and I got a ticket at the other car, because we are not allowed to move between train cars. Went to TAB, which BTW is rigged, unless you are dying or in danger of dying, you are technically prohibited from moving between train car. Easy $75 they took from me, cause they can't actually enforce no smoking on the train
  24. Well for starters they can start by having some police ride along some bus lines and give out citations. Do this for a couple of days and you will see people start walking more. Right now it pays to not pay, so why would anyone actually pay?
  25. People should do the Staten Island way, just walk on and pretend the fare doesn’t exist If the policy is to require payment they need police in the bus, because it’s getting ridiculous If the policy is to make it free, then make it free so all taxpayers suffer instead of double dipping the people paying the fare I’m seeing more fare eating in Northern Queens as well, it’s spreading throughout the city At some point if you can’t beat ‘em, join em, and pass the bill to taxpayers This city obviously doesn’t care about the law anymore. Feels like a sucker putting stuff in the donation box everyday (aka farebox). Especially when you and one other person out of the 25 person on the bus pay and there is no punishment for those not paying This is the same agency that wants to congestion pricing and a bailout to prevent their financial catastrophe when they can’t even stop people stealing from them
